Hi Sam - watching this video with my little grandson. I think you are wrong about the Electrotren 0-6-0 . It was built for Spanish Railways but not by Andrew Barclay . It was built by Sharp Stewart and is not freelance at all. They were another UK manufacturer. It is in HO scale really so is a little smaller than it should be for UK Oo layouts. Having said that it’s a nice model, if a little basic. The chassis can be used for industrial bodies if you’re that inclined. Hornby have issued it in the UK in a couple of forms, originally commissioned by Golden Valley Hobbies .

I normally don't care for British locos and trains, but your's have a delightful charm about them. It's nice to see you running on the floor without tremendously realistic (and intimidating) scenery. Plus, I could understand your speech quite well because I often have a very hard time understanding the speech of English and Aussie people, which is a delightful change. Thank you for uploading your tiny trains. And about your microphone next to the train--don't. All I could hear were the typical sounds of an electric train running, which is not realistic at all. I was expecting one of the modern sound effects from your loco and was surprised by electric static noise. Oh, and might I say it was very pleasant to hear the history and background information about your locos. Rarely, if ever, do people explain their models. I enjoyed that about your video as well.

The Terrier the LBSC withdrew in 1901 was acquired by Col. Stephens for his Kent & East Sussex Railway (where you can still find it) and was renamed 'Bodiam' (with the local area in mind). Three years earlier in 1898, the Newhaven Harbour Co. acquired another Terrier (in this case, No. 72 'Fenchurch'). Both built at Brighton in 1872, not only Bodiam has survived but also Fenchurch. The latter was the second Terrier to be acquired by the embryonic Bluebell Railway in 1964 (Newhaven Harbour gave up the engine by then).

Sam featuring diesels?? Madness!! As it happens I am developing a bit of a taste and collection for little shunting Diesels... Currently have, all hornby, class 08, 06 and a Sentinel! The sentinel is an absolutely beautiful bit of kit and very well replicated! As it happens we actually have 3 still in use today at Preston docks, Theres a regular Bitumen train for Total which arrives several times a week. Train gets dropped off in an exchange sidings and then the sentinel, usually "enterprise" comes and shunts it into the depot❤️

I like those small kettles, the Barclay and the Caledonian. For modelling a light railway, free-lance or not, those are ideal models. I would see the 0-6-0 hauling mixed traffic trains, and the 0-4-0 used for freight and shunting on a light railway... Gives me a modelling idea, then !

I model Mid-19th Century US trains. Specifically the "American 4-4-0" pieces. All of the motive power I can locate is Tender Drive and in need of reworking. The biggest problems with them are missing drive shafts and the Gawd-Awful power pickup systems. I have discovered workarounds for the missing shafts but the adding and modifying of the electrical pickup can be sketchy at best. Once the missing shaft has been addressed, The electrical system can make the world of difference in running. Thanx for showing me the small loco's of the UK that you run.

I love that 'Barclay'. I prefer shunters and wagons to, say, a 'Pacific' and coaches. I have always wanted to make a layout based on the war time ammunition depots in Corsham, Wiltshire, most of which was underground, but had a large, dedicated rail network, most of which was, sadly, scrubbed up immediately following the war. The Rocket also has a rather grim claim to fame: it was the first railway engine to kill someone. On the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway, the first train to run on it, stopped about half way, to let the no doubt shellshocked passengers stretch their legs, and watch the Rocket pass by. MP, William Huskisson, somehow fell in front of the speeding Rocket, and his legs were severed. George Stephenson used the Rocket to get the poor man to hospital, but sadly, he died from trauma and blood loss. There is a memorial to Huskisson at the point where he was injured - but it's right next to the track, and virtually impossible to notice, let alone read, as you speed by.

Great theme for the running session. Glad the Sentinel got a look in, lovely little model and I really need to get a steam one. Shame about the Gandy Dancer, pump trolleys are a lot of fun after hours at a heritage railway. 😉 I’m still amazed by how tiny the P class is, and powerful. It can pull as much as my Stirling Single, I thought you might run it in place of the Terrier! Good motor on that Terrier, it’s a good idea with the microphone as motor and gear train noise can be a big difference between models. Got a question for you, what software do you use to have the tablet set up as a throttle for RailMaster? I can’t find anything for the life of me.

I have a few motorized railcars (actual converted cars with flanged metal wheels) but i never call any of those "loco" do to they can not pull wagons (and don't do passenger transportation), but my Trackmobile is could be the link between them, and it is very small. But for actual locos; in 00 I have a PUG, and a Beattie Well Tank, in H0 is my T3 is the smallest I think, dough i have a few H0f locos too. The reason why high quality/detailed small locos are less common like their bigger brothers is their price. Its similar to an Express loco, and an average buyer says: -This loco is tiny, and unobserved, but cost as much as that big, spectacular, colorful one! I'll take the big one! Lovely little video, that. In all honesty I loved the 04 the best. Not sure why, but I just like the look of it more. As for the kettles, that Barcaly 0-4-0ST is damn cute! But the 04 wins overall. Maybe you should get an 03 shunter as well?
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Phil - ahh interesting choice with the 04 - certainly a lovely shunter that one! I'll definitely keep an eye out for an 03! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Hello, Sam. This was a great video! Would you ever consider doing a "Ages of Modern Traction" series? I think it's a great follow-up to the "Seven Ages of Steam" series you did a couple of years ago.

Great video! I have a question. How do you keep your tracks clean? I have a bunch of old Bachman and tyco and unnamed German tracks, but they are all copper and as copper does, it corrodes very easily, causing the train to shudder and stop. Do you have a track cleaner that you would recommend?
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much mate! I use a Peco track rubber- they last absolutely ages, and they clean track like nothing else does - worth their weight in gold! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I have an issue, I have one of the oldest triang dock shunters there is, but the engine isn't functioning, do you know the potential issue and how I could fix it. It's been sat in an attic for a while
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, it sounds as though it might need a full strip-down and service. There are videos online to show how to do it, or I can do it for you (if you're in the UK!) Drop me an email if you'd like me to! Cheers, Sam :)

Idea: you get a small shelf or box to put the small locos in so they don’t need to be using room needed for big locos and since there small it will take a lot of small locos to fill it
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Good idea, I could do that! :D
