Each Sunday, 15-year-old Eddie stood in front of a company building in Columbus, Ohio. The company operated seven days a week including holidays producing a revolutionary product, automobiles. Young Eddie dreamed of owning one, but what he really wanted was a job building them. Find out more on this episode of Paul Harvey's "the Rest of the Story."

Wow, Eddie certainly lived, and experienced life in ways of extreme emotion. All that near death experience, especially seeing his life flash before his eyes, recalling all the good, and the bad. In that moment of an extreme NDE, I wonder, are we reviewing our lives from present to past, or reliving it from past to present? Either way, the extreme emotion experienced would be knee dropping. "Wing, and a prayer", indeed!

He lived much too dangerously for my taste. My brother was the daredevil in the family and I was the cautious one. hahaha. :)

What a truly brave man. When you don't fear death, what can you fear? No wonder he did all the things he did. When he died in 1973, he was the last living Metal of Honor recipient from the United States Army Air Service. Just thought you might want to know.

I don't think I knew that. Thank you for pointing it out to me. He was brave. I heard someone say, maybe it was in a movie, I'm not sure... "He who fears nothing, loves nothing." When I was a cop, my instructors always said "fear will keep you alive." :)

@@BradDison He was married to his wife a long time, and he got pneumonia in France trying to get a treatment for his wife's eyes. She went blind after he died. So he must have loved her. Grins.

Whenever I hear about Eddie Rickenbacker, I am reminded of the Al Capp comic strip "Li'l Abner," which liked to feature caricatures of many people of the time; the caricature that I thought was pretty funny was that of an old pilot named Eddie Ricketyback. . .

I haven't seen a Lil Abner comic in ages. :)

Thanks again Brad and may I say your mentor, Mr Paul Harvey. This is a story we can all learn from and apply to our own lives. The power of positive thought and attitude will bring us through the greatest hardships. Let me say a special thank you to Mr Eddy Rickenbacker. I would have loved to meet him
