I sleep with 3 pillows. One between my knees. I'm a side sleeper and don't like my knees rubbing. Especially under a lot of blankets. One under the head of course, and one, the thinnest, lightest, on top of my head leaving a small crack for air. Blocks out not only cold, but sound and light also. Instant dark, quiet and warm. Great for daytime naps too.

Hey, I'm doing my 4th yr. In my van in Ohio. 1st you start with a sub 0 sleeping bag (one with lots of room). Walmart has several to choose from. 2nd don't heat with propane. The condensation will make it rain in your van , and make it rust very quickly. 3rd get a diesel heater+ a power station. This is a dry heat.

I don't like sleeping bags. I keep a window cracked and damp rid in my van. I may get a diesel heater once I remodel my van.

I can't do Wool on my skin, get an itchy rash... I'm going to watch again for the Window coverings.. be Safe/Warm Sister...❤

I would be concerned about the propane poisoning you in such a closed space. Also, could you put some of that insulation on the floor and cover it with a rug or blanket. A wool blanket is supreme for warmth. a hot water bottle placed under your covers prior to going to bed will pre-warm it and keep your feet warm. I too, sleep with my head under the covers when cold. THANKS for sharing.

Thank for your concern. I've never had any of the symptoms. I am very careful with my propane. And really it's not even on like all day. I have a window cracked and I'm not right up on it while lit. I have a carpeted floor and the van I have is already insulated.

You should try sleeping in -60°F in the mountains in Canada! We’re equipped, of course. Our expedition sleeping bags keep us warm throughout the winter, and we cover our cozy bag with three goose down duvets. It helps that my husband and I travel together, as our combined body heat helps us to stay nice and cozy. We don’t wear these at night, but we do wear heavy duty Selk’ Bags in the daytime if we’re not driving. We both LOVE our Bearskin hoodies which we wear to bed at night, and we ALWAYS sleep in our clothes. It’s easy enough to change underwear while having our morning wash etc at our local Rec Center. We don’t travel much in winter, as my husband works, but we don’t work at all during the six months of spring/summIt/fall. It works for us!😃 Love and All Good Things, Jesse.🌹

Put a sock full of raw Jasmin rice that has been tied or stitched closed. Place on the car vents when car is running or go to a gas station that has a microwave(2 minutes). No plug in needed. We call them “cozy’s”. Put them in your bed before you get in. Two are better than one. The heat from the rice lasts for hours and will help keep you warm. 😊. Use reflectives under your sheets, and on your windows and ceiling. To further reduce cold air from around window…install 3M window kits that you shrink wrap with a hair dryer. This creates dead air that works to keep the cold out. Sleep tight, don’t let the bugs bite🙂

@@MeenasHappyLife we like the tall sports socks because they can be draped over your shoulders, wrapped around your back, piled over cold hands or feet, or laid long ways by your legs or back under the covers for a “cozy”, inviting nest on a chilly night. Love the fact that once warm they do not require a plug-in and are very portable. We also have a couple of small square ones to throw in the babies car seat before strapping them in……because it is now recommended NOT to put them in snow suits in a car seat.

My 2003 dodge grand caravan has a remote starter installed since 2004. I can lie down in back and just push a button on fob to auto-crank it, and the van has rear heat too, so that can be used when napping in a rest stop on a trip. Also, I keep a 72 in. x 80 in. Camouflage Utility Cover, also called a "cargo blanket" which is heavy and very warm to cover with. It feels like one of those "weighted blankets", does great job of retaining heat under it. I just looked and here in Maryland, they sell at harborfreight for $12, which is the least expensive blanket one could possibly buy! The camo is the thickets and warmest I think, it's by "Franklin". Also consider a 12V heating pad (60x40" approximately) which is between 50-75w power, and even if it ran at top watts constantly, anything like a charged jackery can keep it warm for 8-10 hours of sleep time. I wouldn't run it using car starting battery for it though. A separate deep cycle 200ah works OK with it. Mine has 4 heat level settings, and can set time for 15-30-60-90 minutes.

You can take ice melt and put some of it in a freezer bag, add a little water. Close the bag and knead the ice melt and water, and soon you will start feeling heat. You can use this as a hand warmer. You can put it inside your jacket, underneath your sweater, to keep warm. This warmer will last for hours. You can have more bags made up, and all you do is add water, close the bag, and knead. Make sure you take bottled water with you.

Chinese diesel is the by far the best way to efficiently heat a space like this. I had a toyota dolphin with that was terribly insulated. Bought it off Amazon for like 75 bucks shipped. All of these heaters are the same with a different label. On the 1 gallon tank, I could stay more than comfortable for a week (basically 5 bucks a week to heat the camper) running it for hours at a time ( it will go 10+ hours off the gallon tank). The best way i describe it to people is the size and pressure of a heater dryer vent pushing out over 400 degrees. It will get to 70 degrees in minutes, then you just turn it to low setting and it maintains that temp. I was using a mr buddy heater and it burned through so much propane and I had to choose when to use it. Once you get the diesel heater, you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner

I stayed in my vehicle all through Colorado mountain winter. My big solar generator was capable of supporting the wattage of an electric bed matt for many nights without recharge. The electric mattress pad went under my sheet. Put wool blanket on top of me and a down duvet over the top of the blanket. Wool base layer, a wool hat on my head, wool mitts for my hands, and wool socks. A non-electric dehumidifier kept the moisture reasonable. No worries about poisonous fumes. In the morning, I'd turn on my little electric, milk barn heater and wait for it to heat the space. The electric heater also dried the humidity, so sometimes I'd turn it on for an hour during the night to dry the air. For the floor, I purchased interlocking rubber mats for play areas. The thick rubber stopped the cold breezes from the floor. A cheap rug thrown over the rubber mats kept the floor from freezing me. edit: I kept candles for emergency heat in case my solar generator or smaller backup battery ran out of juice.

Cuddl Duds leggings are amazing. I wear the thinnest level. Smartwool socks or Thorlo microfiber socks and oversized lined leather slippers work. Oversized gloves with the fingertips cut off work. A simple bandana works. A duck down comforter is cheaper than goose and is still warm. So is a zipped-opened down sleeping bag. Making a tent out of a cotton sheet will hold in your heat. I store fabrics in zippered pillowcases.

You might like a mattress pad if you have plenty of power. They come in 110 volt ac or you can get them in 12 volt. I like them over elect blankets cause they usually say do not cover, so your heat is going straight up. The pad is meant for the bttm so it warms you and the heat stays trapped under the blankets. I luv my 110 cause it has a preheat that gets your bed toasty for about 10 or 15 minutes and then shuts off and switches to the level you selected.

Do you have a window cracked while using the propane? Love your channel!❤
@MeenasHappyLife19 күн бұрын
Yes, I have 2 side windows and I put a folded paper towel tube in so it stays cracked but not open all the way. Thanks for watching! 🤗

Thank you, Meena! I’m still in the planning stage of van camping. I was wondering if you get condensation in the winter, and if you do, what you do you do about that?
@MeenasHappyLifeКүн бұрын
I use a Damp rid thing that I get from Dollar Tree. When I cook I crack a window.

Weird question but how tall are you because I can’t lay that way.
@MeenasHappyLife19 күн бұрын
@@adventurebythemile I'm 5'3", so 63 inches tall. The van from window to window back there is 73 inches wide. So the bed is about 68 inches wide?

It is not a cheap purchase, but I bought real sheepskin, long fibers left on undyed, naturally tanned. I needed a medical sheepskin but I thought those were ugly, so I bought a multicolor sheepskin. No batteries or fuel, very low tech. I wrap up like burrito in sleeping bags. I used this for tent camping and would get too hot. Hot water in a bottle placed on or near the inner thighs helps. Again, somewhat low tech, since water is heated then put into a metal or some other material container, be careful for leaks.
