Allah Ta'ala knows and he is the judge above all. Because this matter is gray, it will be very dangerous of us to make any sort of judgement regarding this matter. Allah knows and He is the best judge and will judge all of us on the day of judgment. We should worry about our judgement first. I am writing in the hope to also present an angle that may not have been widely discussed. These were large estates and were an essential monetary tool to run the state at the time Prophet (Alayh Salam) was alive. Prophet (Alayh Salam) was using part of the earning to feed his family but a lot of it was used to serve muslims and non-muslim families in need. Therefore, it was important to keep that under the control of Khalifa who was responsible for taking care of all Muslims after RasulAllah (Alayh Salam). From this perspective, Prophet(Alayh Salam) foreseeing that Abu Bakr (ra) would be the 1st Caliph after him would have spoken to him about that or spoken in Abyu Bakr's presence. This would have made Abu Bakr (ra) the concerned party to this decision as well (since he became Caliph), in addition to the family of the Prophet (Alayh Salam). As to why Prophet (Alayh Salam) did not tell that to his family who was the concerned party as well, Thursday before his death, The prophet (pbuh) asked the people gathered in his home (some close companions and his family members) to bring something to write that will guide them after him (i.e. to make things official, that could have included the matter of his final will) but the people gathered around him differed because he was hurting in pain. As a result they didn't get those final instructions recorded. Later Abbas (ra) lamented about no taking that opportunity when it was presented to them (Ahle Bait and some Senior Companions). May be (my mother) Fatima (alaiha salam) was upset that they all missed the opportunity for hearing it directly from RasulAllah (pbuh) when he asked for something to write. Since she did not hear it directly from RasulAllah(alaiy salam) she sort of expressed her desire of that in responding to Abu Bakr (ra) which basically meant you heard what you heard. If RasulAllah(alaiy salam) was facilitated with pen and paper to write down his final orders, that would have removed any doubts. It is not possible, otherwise, that RasulAllah (Alayh Salam) would not mention this injunction to his family who was also the concerned party with this matter. Allah Knows. The matter cannot be resolved by us with the evidence in the hadith books. Allah Ta'ala will decide on the day of judgement. Until then, we should avoid scratching this issue and keep the ummah permanently divided! We should set aside our historical differences and unite that so we all prosper in this world and hereafter. We should follow Ali (ra)! He was the best decision maker amongst muslims! He made the right decision!!! === Salam Shaikh - if i am lucky enough that you may read this comment. Please do comment on this post. Best Regards Syed Junaid Kashif Ul-Haq

Salaam shaikh. I am a shia listening to this and struggling to see your perspective of defending Abu bakr. The prophet saww left behind the Qur'an and ahlul bayt. How is it remotely conceivable that the prophet saww would tell Abu bakr and Ayesha about the inheritance laws, but not his own daughter or son in law? Fatima (as) didn't have to call Abu bakr a liar. The fact that she stopped speaking to him out of anger is sufficient evidence. One of the 2 heavy weights that the prophet saww left behind for Abu bakr to follow died angry with him. Maybe Allah forgave Abu bakr. Maybe he didn't. I wouldn't want to gamble my soul by asking Allah to be pleased with him every time I mention his name knowing that Fatima (as) died angry with him.

the Prophet Alayh Salam had his hikmah. It is not up to us to assume why or why not or how or how not... The matter of inheritance is quite clear here. The Prophet did not leave his kingdom to his family. There is Hikmah in this that we do not combine the lineage with ruler-ship of the Ummah. Only the Prophet Alayh Salam is infallible. Everyone else can make mistakes.

Imam al-Bayhaqi reports in al-Sunan al-Kubra: “When Fatimah became ill, Abu Bakr came to her and asked for permission to enter. So Ali said, ‘O Fatimah, this is Abu Bakr asking for permission to enter.’ She replied, ‘Do you want me to give him permission?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ So she allowed him (to enter), and he came in seeking her pleasure, so he said to her, ‘By Allah, I only left my home and property and my family seeking the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger and you, O Ahl al-Bayt.’ So he spoke to her until she was pleased with him.” @@suleymanalishah Search in Hadith: Any Word All Words Exact Word in Sahih Bukhari Sahih Muslim Sunan Abudawud Malik's Muwatta The words "fatima death" appear in 6 hadith(s) in Sahih Al-Bukhari صحيح البخاري translation. (1) Narrated 'Aisha: (mother of the believers) After the death of Allah 's Apostle fatima the daughter of Allah's Apostle asked Abu Bakr As-Siddiq to give her, her share of inheritance from what Allah's Apostle had left of the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) which Allah had given him. Abu Bakr said to her, "Allah's Apostle said, 'Our property will not be inherited, whatever we (i.e. prophets) leave is Sadaqa (to be used for charity)." fatima, the daughter of Allah's Apostle got angry and stopped speaking to Abu Bakr, and continued assuming that attitude till she died. fatima remained alive for six months after the death of Allah's Apostle. She used to ask Abu Bakr for her share from the property of Allah's Apostle which he left at Khaibar, and Fadak, and his property at Medina (devoted for charity). Abu Bakr refused to give her that property and said, "I will not leave anything Allah's Apostle used to do, because I am afraid that if I left something from the Prophet's tradition, then I would go astray." (Later on) Umar gave the Prophet's property (of Sadaqa) at Medina to 'Ali and 'Abbas, but he withheld the properties of Khaibar and Fadak in his custody and said, "These two properties are the Sadaqa which Allah's Apostle used to use for his expenditures and urgent needs. Now their management is to be entrusted to the ruler." (Az-Zuhrl said, "They have been managed in this way
