Long ago I had a dog that did something similar. I was taking a long trip overseas and, of course, no way to take a 120lb GSD. I brought her to the parents' house. She lay in front of the front door for 3 weeks, moving only to go outside or eat, and would not even fetch her favorite ball. She lost seven lbs in those three weeks but still had more than enough weight to put me on my butt when I opened that door weeks later.

I started to cry whenever the dog dropped the ball and ran after the plane because I could never imagine leaving my dog behind my dog is like my child I would just have to give up anything else because there's no way I could leave my boy behind, I just can't... I won't... And the thought of the dog feeling abandoned absolutely splits my heart in half it breaks me just thinking my dog would feel abandoned and unwanted and maybe unloved, when I first got my dog from my friend's sister who didn't want him anymore, anyway when I first got him I would take him to the store with me and stuff to get him out of the house let him go adventure with me I had somebody offer to pay for him and I thought about it because if they offered $300 or $400 I might take it, but then I kept thinking about it and I was like no I can't do it I couldn't give up on him like that it ain't right At this point I'm happy I didn't even with all the issues he has all the stress he's caused me I love this boy like he's my child So he has seizures I have him on seizure medication I have him on flea medication I have him one heartworm medication I tried to get him toys a lot I give him treats just because he's cute and himself and because I love him but sometimes I make him work for those treats, doing tricks, but I tried to show him everyday that he is absolutely loved at first he had separation anxiety which I think was him being pulled out of his home and brought to my house I think that caused some kind of anxiety but after a while when I would leave he would no longer cry because he realized I'm guessing that I'm coming back every time there's no way in hell I would leave him it's going to rip me apart when he passes away and I am going to be so lost 😢 but that would be happy about the fact that he knows he was absolutely loved and I truly adored and needed him as much as he needed me, honestly because the house he was in they never treated him good they didn't take proper care of him but I will, and even if I couldn't at least he would know I would never abandon him I would make sure he ate even if I went hungry.

reminds me of a story where a dog was abandoned outside a hotel (wasn't allowed inside btw, so it wasn't taken in), and it waited for years. it also had one friend, which was an abandoned kitten. they waited for years together. and one day, animal rescue came. they tried to take the dog, but the cat saved it. that's all I remember, just know it was a happy ending. edit: I'm not talking about some movie or fake story, it's a story from some animal rescue people

The beginning was so frickin sad, I almost cried, it was gut-wrenching, nothing is more heartbreaking than having to see abandoned pets. When my neighbors moved they left their cat, on purpose, I watched them pet the cat goodbye, get in the U-Haul, then drove away. The cat sat near the front door, staring down the road, waiting for its family to return, it eventually died of exposure.

I have a similar story... my grandfather had gone to prison in Vietnam as a prisoner of war. He was held in prison for a very long time and after the war, he was exiled and not allowed to return to the city. My father had cared for the dog who had sat on a hill along a path leading to their home. This went on for years and my family eventually left to move to the United States to reunite. A neighbor/family friend was asked to care for the dog, the dog died after years of waiting.

German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) are such a beautiful breed of dog. I work with dogs as a volunteer at a shelter and whenever there is a GSD inhouse I always make sure I get to spend some time with them. My other favorite dog breeds are Belgian Malinois, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Doberman Pinschers. I guess I just like dogs with big old noggins. I do like small dogs too. I & my Wife have a dog that's been doing essentially the same thing every morning for nearly 3 years. In early 2018, we lost our oldest dog (of 3) Jo, to an enlarged heart. We still had our other two dogs, Maya & Ivy & we were not looking for another 3rd dog, but when we saw a particular rescue puppy & heard his story, we adopted him immediately & named him Bucky. Bucky has been the most difficult dog we've ever had by far, mostly because he was born in the wild & was not domesticated in the slightest. It took months of patience, but he eventually accepted my Wife & Me & Maya & Ivy, as his pack. Then, 6 months after we lost Jo, Ivy died of Brain Cancer. She was only 6. Then, less than a year later, we lost Maya to a Liver Infection. She was 10. We did not want Bucky to be alone, so we found another rescue for him. Jack & Bucky are now Brothers in every way you could think of. That would be great, except for one thing- Every morning, when my Wife takes Jack out for his walk, Bucky sits by the window & cries almost non-stop, until Jack returns. Clearly, losing his 'Mommydog' (Maya) and his 'Big Sister' (Ivy) has scarred Bucky for life. He is terrified each time Jack leaves, that he's not coming back. As I said, this has been going on for nearly 3 years, with no sign of ever stopping. I am disabled, so can't take Bucky with Jack & my Wife can't handle both of them at the same time. Bucky is about 120lbs, Jack is just over 70lbs. My Wife is 5'2" & a tiny little thing. She just can't take both. So, I sit with Bucky every day & try to comfort him. It helps... somewhat. Bucky is the smartest & most extraordinary dog we've ever owned. We now have another '3rd dog', a young Border Collie, Ellie, who is smart even for a B.C. Yet Bucky is smarter still. Sadly though, this is a situation where Bucky's smarts work against him. As he still clearly remembers losing Maya & Ivy, but the fear of that loss overrides his reason & he gets overwhelmed every day when Jack leaves. It's heartbreaking.

The harsh reality is, this is what people do. Gets under my skin. Ive seen what people do to dogs as well. I tried ti assist with 3 german sherpards who were dumped. Person that dump them cut their tongues out. 1 passed, i uave zero idea what happened to the other 2. This is just 1 case of many ive heard. Including my rescue dogs.

Truly a beautiful and classical heartwarming story as nothing is more relatable to those with a pure heart than a loving dog. What I liked most about this film is the absence of "cartoon villians". Even the airport manager show compassion and understanding she is simply trying to do her job. The same with the dog catchers. The man who leaves his pup is portrayed as loving and understanding with the effort he puts in he just feels he doesn't have a choice (although I wouldn't leave my loyal companion for all the money in the world). Great acting from all especially the little boy who represents all that is good and pure in the World. Selfless, kind and loving. Just an all around great film which is the antithesis of America and its media over the past six decades.

I've never cried so hard in a movie until this one. No dog deserves to be treated this way. Warning: Pls do not read further if you are faint at heart. I grew up in a place where dogs are not cared for properly. Even groomed to become food. We didn't know any better. My parents sold my beautiful, white grown-up dog (for the money). I can't blame them. We were poor. And the process was brutal. I was helplessly crying in a corner when they forcibly took away my dog after putting him down. This movie reminded me of it. After abt 30 yrs, the memory is still there. I think it scarred me permanently. Parents, pls treat your child's pets nicely, and give your kids good memories they can cherish forever, not bad memories that will scar them forever. (Now we, my parents included, try our best to treat our pets properly, like they are part of the family)
