Through the window, the city stretches beneath me, its lights flickering like distant stars. Silent, unfeeling. It’s strange how the city can seem so alive and yet be so indifferent. It doesn’t care whether I’m here or not, whether I’m searching or drifting. The window is like a mirror, but it doesn’t reflect me. It reflects the emptiness.
What am I waiting for?
The city is always moving, but tonight it feels still-like time has given up, surrendering to the weight of everything left unsaid. In a world that never pauses, I’m caught between moments, clinging to the echoes of something that might never return. The streets below wind like veins, pulsing with lives I’ll never know, but all I can think of is how each step I take circles back to you. Even when you’re far away, the distance feels like it’s just an illusion, a trick of the mind. You’re everywhere and nowhere all at once.
Isn’t it strange how absence can feel so present? How the empty space beside me feels more real than anything else? I wonder if the city dreams when it sleeps, if it remembers the people who walk through it, or if it forgets them the moment they leave. Maybe that’s what I fear the most: being forgotten, fading like a shadow at dusk.
Where do I go when today fades into tomorrow? I keep asking the same question, but I’m not sure if I even want the answer. Maybe the real question isn’t about where I’m going, but why I’m still standing here, waiting. Waiting for what? For time to rewind? For the world to shift back to what it once was? Or maybe, waiting for myself-to catch up, to let go, to move forward.
But moving forward feels like waking up from a dream you don’t want to end. Reality presses in, sharp and unforgiving. Everything reminds me of what’s gone, of what could have been. Yet, I know I can’t stay here, frozen in this moment forever. The world won’t wait, even if I do. Time has a way of pulling us forward, even when we resist.
Maybe that’s the secret. Maybe life isn’t about finding answers, but about learning to move through the uncertainty. To walk through a city that never stops, even when we do. To carry the weight of what we’ve lost and still keep going. Maybe the city doesn’t sleep-it just learns to dream while awake. And maybe that’s what I need to learn too.
Where do I go after today? I don’t know. But maybe the point isn’t knowing. Maybe the point is just to keep moving, even when the road is unclear. Even when everything reminds me of you. Because somewhere, in the spaces between what was and what will be, I’ll find myself again.
