I once got a toy microscope for my birthday and it could still magnify untill about this big. We always had a small 1.5*1.5 meter pond in the garden with some goldfish in it.. I once took a drop of water and a piece of plant from there to check under the microscope. You probably can imagine how baffled I was to find something similar to this video. I took a big sample to school next day and had everyone check out the little things in my goldfish pond! For one day I felt like a scientist lol

We had an experiment like this to see these organisms. Apparently the bigger ones are more commonly found near the surface of the water since they are photosynthetic, while the smaller ones are further down below so that they won't have much predators. Fun fact I guess.

@lz_creep68565 жыл бұрын
they are actually not, the drop of water from this video came from a pond which was full of all of that, the water we drink is passed through many cleaning facilities and all of the microorganisms in your water are killed and washed away
@The0Stroy5 жыл бұрын
Also - they are harmless as our immunological defence system is ready for such things. To harm anyone such things first must survive acid in stomach and then meeting with white cells. Illness causing organisms evolved to sneak pass defences. But we can build up them - by vaccination.

Your tap water is chemical treated to kill off microbes of all kinds. I actually looked at tap water under my microscope and it was completely clean. I had to allow tap water to sit outside overnight for a week before all of the chemical treatment evaporated out of it, THEN place grass and leaves in the water and wait another week before I even saw any microbes. I for one am thankful for water treatment plants!

I'd like some pre-main-video introduction like you picking the drop or setting the microscope. As well some mid-video explanations like what is being seeing. Nothing to much informative, just general basic things.

@@JamsGerms Oh sorry, my mistake. What I meant is microorganisms that are pathogens to humans (mostly parasites, helminths and their eggs, plasmodium etc.) I'm a med student and I only know about these theoretically (and from some pictures) but I would really like to see them alive if you run across them during your work :)

This is why you don't drink rain water or similar sources. You take in mouthfulls worth of these lifeforms when you drown in a lake, but this is only a drop worth. Still, it's far more facinating than fish, as these organisms are actively living out their lives nuch quicker and dying.

Anybody looking to get into microscopy, there’s a fantastic book called “Fundamentals of Light Microscopy and Electronic Imaging” by Douglas Murphy. I’d be willing to bet money Jam’s read it. It’s expensive though. But just search books, articles or videos about microscopy if you’re interested in the topic.
