Fantastic place, fantastic trains, perfect speeds, but, that engine, gotta be the most beautiful model ever created.

Thanks Bill, as usual a fine video, which we, the spoiled, get to enjoy. You have no idea the invaluable inspiration and information that you have given me. Not being from the US, but modelling US prototypes, it pleasing to see that, sometimes, my assumptions or 'gut feelings', have been borne out. As always also many thanks to the Colorado Model Railroad Museum for their co=operation. All in all great viewing guys!! Many thanks.

Very attractive Yellowstone steam model , the DM&IR "Yellowstone" class is one of my top 5 favorite articulated type steam locomotives. I am impressed that this model has been produced in ho scale in a form aside from brass, MTH trains performed a decent job with the production release of this locomotive model.

I like this layout and the fact there's smoke coming out of the engine

I've often thought the DMIR 2-8-8-4 was the most handsome of the large articulated US locomotives, and this model bears that out.

Great hand held camera work Bill. Excellent footage. Beautiful MTH locomotive. Amazing scenery always beautifully captured. Have you seen some of my layout videos and of my club layout on my KZbin channel Train Lord?

I fell in love with the 229 the first time I saw it on display back in '79 and wanted to get a model of one right away. This year I decided that they weren't going to get any cheaper and wrote the check. I ran it for Rio Grande days at the museum when I found out that that the DM&IR 229 was completed in January 1943 with an extremely high War Production Board priority. Since the lakes were frozen it was delivered to the Rio Grande where it spent its infancy working the Rio Grande as did several other DM&IR Yellowstones

Horsepower is a useless metric with steam. Drawbar pull is what counts. Big Boy isn't even in league with an M.

@@pkat The Rio Grande fell in love with those Yellowstones too
@pkat3 жыл бұрын
@@09JDCTrainMan Yes they did! Some M4s were delivered to the Rio Grande because the ore docs were closed for the winter, so they were sent where they were needed. They had a war production board production rating higher than a tank during WWII. When the lake superior docks closed during the winter, the Rio Grande leased the DM&IR's Yellowstones. for helper service on Tennessee pass

I think the wheels on the locomotive are slipping.

This otherwise nice locomotive has either wobbling front drivers or has trouble on the tracks. It seems to come close to stalling or spinning at times as well, early in the video. Not sure if it is on slippery track, needs better springing, or is overloaded.

I love this locomotive although I have to say it is a lot weaker than I thought it would be.
