You definitely went into his review wanting to disagree with whatever you could my man. When he’s talking about their voices I’m pretty sure he’s just saying it doesn’t have the same impact for him. It doesn’t really matter if it’s “fair”, if someone didn’t like the voice of someone in the movie and then the reply was SHE JUST HAS A DIFFERENT VOICE, that doesn’t change whether I like it or not

I wanted so badly to be on the same side as him for once. Ben set a standard for Ariana’s voice to be on BROADWAY par with Erivo which obviously isn’t going to happen as Ariana is vocally different. I’m not gonna make judgements on which one is objectively better as Ben did

@ I honestly agree with this, I hate when anybody takes something that others like, they dislike it and portray it as objective fact, it’s just a bad way to portray a personal opinion. My favorite part about his review was near the start when he mentioned how much he loved the original Oz books because they "weren't woke." Read them again, Ben. Book 2, The Marvelous Land of Oz had a transgender main character. (And yes, you can argue Ozma was "under a spell," but the fact is this character was raised as a boy, had a boy name, and then discovered her true identity as the princess of Oz and transformed into her true self - a girl. It's not exactly a stretch.)

I don't understand your point that Ben is wrong about Defying Gravity. A movie based on a musical should stay at least somewhat loyal to said musical, unless you plan on nust using the story and not the music ie. Live Action Mulan. Defying Gravity is one of if not the most powerful number ever seen on Broadway and they break it up into like 5 different parts. The one place i really agree with Ben on this is the fact that the movie doesn't end eith Cynthia Erivio's Battle Cry, instead it ends on the background of "down". Literally why? This is her song, her big moment. One of the most iconic belts in all of musical history and you don't end on that. Plenty of musicals have been great movies but still stayed true to the source material. Ex. Mamma Mia, Greece, Phantom of the Opera, and Beauty and the Beast both the animated and the live action just to name a few. You can't hide behind it being a movie as an excuse for why you ruin the momentum of you biggest moment. This would be like when Luke is blowing up the Death Star you show R2D2 fighting with CP3O for some unknown reason. With all that said, Wicked is still my favorite movie of the year, its the best movie I've seen in a while, at least the last couple of years. That does not mean thats i5s perfect, it does mess up Defying Gravity, its biggest showstopper. The Wizard and I, Dancing Though Live, and One Short Day are the best numbers because they are allowed to exist as full numbers. Defying Gravity which is supposed to be the biggest number of act one or in this case part one, is for some reason broken up and not allowed to exist as a full number.

And Ariana specifically trained with vocal coaches to get a more operatic style for this movie, whereas Cynthia is going for a more modern theatre style. The unnecessary gaying-up Fiyero's debut at Shiz 4. Them ruining the dramatic end section of Defying gravity by shoehorning in some new irritating iterations of the "unlimited" theme. You not agreeing with those excellent points, and criticizing the other reviewer for not complaining about the lighting (a minor gripe)... shows that you haven't a clue what you are on about.
