I live in a very cloudy state. And the electric has been off for up to 10 days. It goes off all the time, so many years ago I bought a Honda 2,000 watt generator. It will run everything but the well. So I bought a trolling motor battery and a 3,000 watt inverter for the well. I pump water once in the morning and once in the evening. The generator will run up to 12 hours on one gallon of gas. I can run the furnace, lights, tv, fridge, and freezer at the same time. And I charge the battery back up with the generator. The stove, hot water heater, and furnace except the fan runs on LP. I can't run the air conditioning, but that's okay. I seldom need it anyway.

You are practical. You created an emergency system way before lithium was available especially at today's prics. Yes if doing it over again, l'm sure you woujd have seriously considered using them. Four years ago I equipped a WeeRoll enclosed cargo trailer as an RV. I meet my energy needs similar to your system....Generator and propane. Lithium batteries were almost $1,500 way out of my budget. I just replaced my 4 heavy duty 6V batteries with litium where l paid only $229 for each. The lifetime of my lead acid's was getting shorter so l sold them helping to purchase the new upgrade. We all adjust as our conditions change.

You're right about checking codes. Insurance companies will check and if they can find something you did wrong after the house burns down they will not pay for the damage. Two years with my two Blueitti AC200P and very happy with them. Thanks for the review.

I have TWO "OUPES Mega 3" and "Two Batteries" one for each Mega 3...and TWO "2k Watt" OUPES Batteries that they no longer make. Run Window AC, Refrigerator and HDTV. I also can cook on my Electric Skillet and make Tea/Coffee. I do want to buy a very small Microwave (700 to 900 watts) to use if power goes out, the MAIN Microwave is Built into the wall, so hard to get at the AC Cord. Our HOA had a "Party in the Park" for families and kids....with Cotton Candy Machine and 3 Bounce Castles, but the Breakers popped with the load. So, I went home and picked up my Batteries and was able to run everything for 3 to 4 hrs...had about 1/3 left on my batteries. The HOA director sent out a THANKYOU for saving the day post the next day.

After using the little, handy dandy 256 Wh OUPES unit to charge the now everpresent USB/battery small accessories (charge yer cellphone! and all of the new, nifty little LED lights, water pumps, etc) I have really warmed up to the no-nonsense OUPES approach. As you noted in an earlier vid, the OUPES products have "everything you need and nothin' you don't". Thanks for ANOTHER great vid, Mr. Rick.

It really does look like a very nice power station. Very awesome you had it for the snow storm. We've used our little dinkies a couple times when power went out in the house. I'd love it if a company would send us a more powerful one to review.

What an impressive system! Your review helps me understand the power banks and solar much better than I did before! *** I don't remember that you're a camping channel. What happens if you're on one of your roadtrips and not home? Pipes freeze? Move south.😁 I want one to run an A/C unit on solar in Hawaii where electric rates are high.
@gonagain6 ай бұрын
With enough solar and batteries you can run AC from solar. We generally stay home during the worst part of winter, but with a basement it's not too bad on the pipes.

Rick, nice video. Would a ground-neutral bonding plug need to be added to the oupes mega-2 power station to plug it into an RV's shore power cord? Or does the Oupes have an internal bond?

@gonagain6 ай бұрын
OUPES has been on the market for quite some time now and I've used several of their products. Think about how much power you actually need plus the features that are important to you and then decide. This is one of my favorite brands though and I'm currently plugged into the Mega 2 on our present road trip.

I noticed on website description that storage cannot go below 30°F; how do you manage this battery in the winter time keeping it at or above 30°F? I live in Alaska and I’m wondering about using one of these in my home and winter camping vehicle. I imagine that we have similar temperature extremes here in Alaska as you do there in Montana… Although not as hot here in Alaska in the summertime. Thank you for your wonderful reviews and your content .
@gonagain6 ай бұрын
You can store it down to -4F, but you can't charge it below freezing, which is true for any lithium battery. I store mine inside during the winter here in Montana (lower Alaska).

Could you explain in more detail about how to hook it up to your 12 volt system. I Know oupes give you all the different wire for hooking up, but do I need any other wiring or Anderson plug to hook up into my cargo camper 12 volt system. I would appreciate any advice. Also, thank you for all the information that you do on utub . Love watching your channel .
@gonagain6 ай бұрын
Thanks Thomas! The wires that come with it are for a solar panel, but you can get an SAE (Anderson plug) with wire attached from Amazon and will just need to cut off the other end. Then it's just a matter of wiring the positive to the + buss of your RV and the negative to the - buss

You could charge a battery by plugging in a battery charger or by hooking to the 12v, 30amp Anderson port. I carry a lithium jump-starter for the task and have used it many times. They're not very expensive and they're small.

You're obviously old enough to have endured power outages. Ask your local Fire Department about having 'lithium based' power devices in or around your home!

These are made with LiFePO4 lithium batteries and shouldn't be confused with lithium ion, which are a fire hazard.

I understand it this helps a content maker especially when given a product to review that might help them...But let me give you an example of my whine here....Got up this morning, turned on puter and KZbin...Got 6 notifications of content from channels i subscribe to...4 out of the 6 of these new posts have ended up being commercials for products the content maker has been given...The reason i totally quit watching TV 100% is because i felt a fool paying for cable to advertise to me no less than a third of the air time...Thats what you pay for in cable....KZbin NEXT ???? As like in most everything else, advertising has infiltrated youtube large and in my opinion will be a part of what ruins it for folks...Adds are slowly getting longer, and it seems everybody on KZbin has got one and more to chime at ya these days...
@gonagain6 ай бұрын
I don't mind your whine and there's a good answer. When my channel was half this size I made twice as much from YT advertising. For whatever reason, YT just isn't paying us creators as much anymore and thus the need for seeking other sponsors. What we do is put out our regular videos on Fridays and, if I do a review, put that out on Mondays so you can decide whether to watch it or not. I generally don't put sponsored ads in any of our videos, just a dedicated product review.

@@gonagain I understand the creators point of view here...They get a product that may very well help them or be something they could use large to make their travel or homestead life better ...Its just i think the people making all these products are saturating the channels with it...Its become just another form of advertising through youtube...But i appreciate your response and i want ya to know I HEAR YA !!! and i get it....
