Many farmers, if not most, believe we want them to be unemployed when, in reality, we just want them to make a very feasible shift to crop farming. They see vegans as threatening their livelihood when they’re skill sets can be put to better use. The passion for farming just changes. The farming doesn’t change: only the cruelty. The “we’ve done things this way for decades” is at play here and that, my friends, is the danger.

This is in no way a sustainable process.

The Phil's of the animal farming industry are really showing just how nervous they are by the consumer that chooses a vegan product. When let's face it animal farmers don't have to miss out on the vegan pound. No no no, if they broke barbaric and outdated traditions and grew plants for plant based foods they would see that the demand is growing and steady paced, less room is required per grazing beast and s**t shovelling at 6am in the morning would be a thing of the past. To me animal farmers are relics who refuse to see things from the animals point of view and are desperately trying to hold on to an industry that will soon be obsolete due to slow to grinding halt demands.

As an agronomist and master in sustainable agriculture for the 21st century I would say animal farming is pretty important if you want your soils to be healthy enough to grow your veg for your vegan diet. Ed is the one that’s uneducated by basing sustainability solely on carbon production- doesn’t even differentiate between methane, which the carbon cycle can process , and CO2. Don’t be educated by KZbin vids is all I’m saying

From an emotional perspective, part of me feels bad for some farmers because it is their history and culture to some extent, its what they know and i believe them when they say they love the animals (i rather i believe that they believe that, i wouldn't call that a loving act though). That being said, farming 100% contributes massively to greenhouse gas emissions and its an cruel practice that needs to end. We don't have to eat meat anymore. We are smart enough to know where to get the nutrients we need to thrive. It doesnt have to cause suffering. For goodness sake, we can grow meat in a lab.

Something I think about a lot when people reference animal farming as being sustainable and cheap, is the Irish famine. The Irish lived predominantly off of the potato crop because it was the most nutrient dense and best use of land per food provided. Just a thought 👀

Having spent years going into nature, bird-watching / hiking in the UK and seeing what happens when areas are enclosed allowed to regenerate I can tell you that the claims by animal farmers and lobby are generally bollocks. Even the better (upland / rough-grazing) areas with sheep and cattle are mostly overgrazed, partly eroded, shorter vegetation and generally less insects, birds and animals as a result. Otherwise, completely over-fertilised and unnaturally green because of manure and low biodiversity as a result. We will win though. We will have to move towards regenerative plant-based agriculture much more than monoculture / tilling systems. People are waking up. Expect to see more trantrums as they lose ground.
