But if they die on our plates, then their lives had meaning, as we put them to good use. Its the same notion with native hunters respecting the life which had to die for them. One such story i have was at a sashimi buffet, many years ago. So being a buffet, people took more than they could eat (as normally seen). At the end, there was some food which people didnt want to finish. And then i had a friend say, "Its sad if the fish isnt eaten, their lives would have been wasted. Please eat it guys.." And you wanna know what the others said? "NOOPE, fck that shit. If she feels so bad for the fish, she can finish it herself." Dont go bothering me with your cultural morals.

And if you did, you would definitely end up converting to large-scale business models to compensate for losses (monetary or intangible) or just out of greed really. All industries start small, but our system induces "natural selection" into larger businesses, usually through some kind of phagocytosis. The problem lies in the product you want (fish, or any animal really) MUCH more than in the method you choose, though that plays a relevant role as well.

“May all that have life be delivered from suffering.” -Buddha 😌
@mistahkurtz2351
@mistahkurtz2351 3 жыл бұрын
Buddhism isn't against eating meat -- I am from a Buddhist country and meat consumption is increasing. The Buddha himself ate pork as his last meal before he died. In the ancient texts there are people who criticised the Buddha for not being vegetarian, and in the present day there are ascetics who abstain from consuming animal products but this is definitely not the majority view within Buddhism.

@mistahkurtz2351
@mistahkurtz2351 3 жыл бұрын
@@studyourconstitution5885 I'm not sure if your are replying to me, but I agree with you. The original comment was cherry picking a quote attributed to the Buddha, whereas in Buddhism, even the philosophy of "suffering" is fundamentally different to how it is used in modern society. Having said that, when talking to a Christian, Buddhist or Muslim, it is important to at least understand the history of their religion, how it shapes their values, and how it fits in with veganism.
@mistahkurtz2351
@mistahkurtz2351 3 жыл бұрын
@@plants8564 How do we know what is a "myth" or what isn't? By reading the ancient texts. That the Buddha ate pork is accepted within the Theravada tradition. Regardless, there are philosophical dialogues where the Buddha explicitly went against mandating vegetarianism (e.g. when challenged by Devadatta). When the Buddha talks about "suffering" he is talking about desire and craving. So according to Buddhism it is OK to eat meat so long as the ascetic does not crave it. Similarly, it would be against the Buddha's teaching to crave a bowl of lentils. I've debated/discussed veganism with Buddhist monks and the excuses they make are that it is the animal's karma which was predetermined by deeds of previous lives. Buddhism is quite apathetic to material suffering, since the end goal is ultimately a spiritual annihilation. It's important to understand the context of a quotation before subscribing to an ideology. I can quote Hitler being very sympathetic to animal suffering, but I do not do so because I disagree with his overall ideology.

@@kh_qft762 It's a comforting idea that everything is doomed anyway but that is factually incorrect. Every single bigger systematic injustice will vanish over time. People don't change, that is correct. They can't because of how the human brain works. Rarely do people change positions past a certain age. Be it slavery, human torture, women not being able to vote, racism etc. Old positions die because people die, younger generations being more educated, more research, attention and evidence. 20 years ago we didn't even really know if fish could feel pain. But it turns out they can and some can even recognize themselves in mirrors. Statistically speaking, a lot of things will change. You are right: Not a single animal but millions instead will be saved. But we are past that already. It's not about single animals anymore. It's about the global environment and ecosystem. Every single honest person already realizes that. A lot of things need to change and they will change. Just takes some time. And next time you should phrase your comment better. It's not really clear if you meant to play the position of the industry or if you are writing as someone from the industry, being triggered for some reason, writing factually incorrect things. Don't worry. Its not about you. You will not change. But societies change. Always have been. Or do you see Nazis and slaves everywhere? ;)

No matter the age, greed was present, it never "changed through generations". You position is laughable. The fishing industry will stop when there are so little fish left that it is no longer profitable, that's it. And to answer your incredibly idiotic question, yes there is still slavery, you just don't see it in your pampered little bubble in the west because slaves have moved from your back yard to overseas, yet they still exist, in much more massive numbers. I love seaspiracy. I live in the Caribbean and chinese trawling boats come into our waters and take a lot of fish from our waters. Our local fishermen are not getting their usual catch as it has significantly reduced. Fish prices are sky rocketing. Although we usually eat a combination of fish, veg, provisions and Bush meat many people rely on the sea for food. They are also dumping waste in our once pristine waters. I'm not a vegan but I eat 94% veg, less than 5% fish and local shrimp and under 1%processed meats. I'm trying to incrementally decrease my use of meat

As someone who’s had avid interest in marine biology but hasn’t seen the film yet, anyone who doesn’t think there’s been sizable human impact on marine ecology has been living under a rock. We’ve known of the garbage patch, population decimation of marine life, and in some cases removing specific species from ecosystems entirely, and even coral degradation of the barrier reef.. for several DECADES. The only reason it hasn’t reached terminal levels is bc the ocean is just that tenacious (and huge). At this point it’s like talking to people who clap their ears and yell “Lalalala” to themselves.

When I was 13 waaay before I even considered going vegan my mom brought bush meat back from Nigeria. It was to show us that we shouldn't be picky since bush meat was what most villagers could get if they wanted to eat meat daily. It was dried and preserved (look up how Nigerians do it if you're curious) but she didn't even know what kind animal she bought 🤢. Although I'm a vegan of 3 months, fan of Ed (watched pretty much all his content and favorite public vegan activist) and of Seaspiracy, I feel the need to criticize 4:34. I think Ed is assuming too much here. No matter how right Seaspiracy might be about the majority of the film, there is an actual established pattern in the movie of pretty "aggressive journalism", interrupting people sometimes unnecessarily in interviews just to make a "gotcha" scene, trying to pretty much draw narratives that every single person working in these industries is a crook, and in 4:34 in particular they were asked to turn their cameras off (yet kept recording anyway btw) and there's no telling how much of the clips we see are actually in context or if the documentary crew skipped some parts where the CEO of the coalition came in and the documentary immediately skips to the CEO asking them to shut their cameras off in less than 5 seconds, and then a second later skips to the CEO being fixated on whether her own staff suggested "eliminating fish" as a solution, painting these guys as "completely irrational and unwilling to talk to us" when they clearly were happy to for a while, but then at some (for us completely unknown) point the CEO had enough. Just from the clips Ali included in the movie I honestly don't think calling his behavior as "bullying" is too far off. There's a thin line in journalism between asking critical questions and just being an asshole. Krishnan Guru-Murthy for instance is a great example of that.

@J Lyon no, you don't need meat. Was your diet balanced? Did you supplement B12? Have you seen a dietitian? Did you have your blood test done?

@J Lyon @J Lyon nope, you're just wrong. Good luck with your cows milk and osteoporosis in 30 years tho. Just saying, you NEED to suplement vitamin D and b12 even if you're eating animal products. So your "any diet that requires a supplement" is just not true. Still, you haven't answered my question. Have you seen a dietitian? Are you a dietitian? if no, how the fuck would you know if your diet was balanced? Did you count the calories, the fats, the protein and the carbs? Vitamins and microelements?

Shalom brother, may you be blessed for looking out for the beautiful animals YAH created. I pray one day the animals will have freedom to live without oppression and abuse existing. Let's all pray for Truth to enter the hearts of all of mankind, including ourselves. Recently my dog of 14 years passed on to heaven and even though I always love animals he was my brother and best friend... He showed me on an even deeper level the consciousness of animals and how pure their souls are. Let's please pray and do all we can to make life a beautiful, peaceful and joyful experience for all life. HalleluYah and may anyone who reads this be blessed always 🙏🏽🕊❤

It's common practice for content creators to re-edit and re-upload videos so they comply with KZbin's vague (to put it lightly) filters.

Amazing documentary. The part were that guy said it can never be sustainable that you mentioned was a bit of a highlight. I turned to my wife and said he's probably just lost his job for that comment. He was probably trying to protect his job when saying it was taken out of context. As a Vegan with a brother who's a butcher for Tulip, I get it, I do t like it at all but I get it. People have to earn money and while the industry is there people will have the jobs. One day we just won't need them and the world will be a better place.

In situations like this interview or the recent ExxonMobil interview by Unearthed, I feel like they should dump all the raw and uncut interviews online the same time they release the films. There is no way they can say it is out of context or manipulated if the entire footage is there for everyone to see.

I haven’t seen seaspiracy yet but reading the book the outlaw ocean 3 years ago was the catalyst for me becoming first vegetarian and later vegan. Our oceans are literally the birthplace of life. It’s time to get on board with preserving life for all of us.

When I watched the documentary and then saw the complaints about it, I also wondered 'how can you take something like that out of context...?! You said it didn't you?' I'm glad you thought that too, and thank you so much for the extra information!

I only really missed a part dedicated to inland fish farming. I know the documentary has "sea" and not "lake" or "river" in its name, but here in Brazil A LOT of fish come from inland farming, and many countries deprived of "diverse" (i.e. marketable) schools in their coastline use this method as a "healthy" alternative, which ends up almost as bad as sea breeding, since technicians have to mimic water conditions in pH, algae replication, feed, nutrient density, etc. And that causes lots of waste to fresh water, as well as lots of contamination and cannibalism among the fish.
