Totally! I live in an area with lots of wildlife and my cat is not allowed outside, even during the day. He meows so sadly at the door because he wants to “play” with the birds and lizards and everyday I explain why he can’t “there are things out there that want to eat you for a snack” and then I distract him with treats or a toy and repeat at least 5x a day. I feel badly for keeping him cooped up but it is a life saving measure.

Once, when our current cat was a kitten, she got out of the house and ran into the woods. Ugh, I hate cases like this. I'm a cat lover and owner, but would never allow my cat outside - not just because we had a cat live much longer after not staying outside, but also because there are dogs, cars, and the like out there, and their teeth and claws can only protect against so much! To those who let their cats out and/or own outdoor cats, DO NOT DECLAW THEM! First, it's painful for the cat, but it's also their FORM OF DEFENSE. If they are being chased by a predator or even a dog, they can climb trees and wait for the threat to pass. This is also how they hunt and attack prey! If you declaw them, they'd better be an indoor cat only - but also just raise it to not claw your furniture, etc. Also, give them a collar to not only show who they belong to, but also a flea collar to protect them.
