THANK YOU! I’m a mom, in a rural area where I can’t hire someone to do this. This video made me feel confident enough to try this myself. I’m looking at the rest of your videos now! Hoping to find one about how to replace the siding and trim once the opening is made smaller. THANK YOU AGAIN! 🎉

Thanks for the video. I'm removing an old, failing custom window with a new replacement vinyl window. The off the shelf window is a little smaller and this video shows me what I need to do.

Greg, you've got a real knack for instruction. You explain things very concisely, easy to follow but not dumbed down. Your whole series is incredibly helpful. Love how with just about everything you show half a dozen or more ways of doing something.

Thank you! Excellent visuals and very detailed and concise explanations. KZbin videos are like houses on halloween. There were always a few houses that gave king-size candy bars. Some gave apples or smarties, some gave nothing. You are giving out brand new cars like Oprah!

Thank you so much for this info! So very helpful! and that's an understatement. I have liked and subscribed. I'm sure your channel will come in handy for multiple things coming up for our current home and our future home. Is there anything that would make these instructions not suitable for a block home? Also, we're trying to sell our home - would this cause any problems with inspection. with it not being permitted (not having permit paperwork)? Hopefully we'll do such a great job they wont notice it unless somehow someway someone sees the original blueprints. Just trying to think ahead on the matter. So stressed out right now because we have to replace a master bedroom window and cannot find the original size 60.5" x 51". Thank you so much for your time!

1:22 you say to use 1/2” plywood if you need to shorten the width by 1/2”. But then you might be nailing into the layers of the plywood which could easily split, right? Just something to consider, great video tho

Do you have any videos of installing a window that is smaller in width but larger in length by any chance? I have 3 old Jalousie windows in my Florida room. I’m looking to replace them with impact windows. The impact windows are about a foot larger in length but smaller in width. I got the windows for free so I’m looking to use them. Any help or advice would be amazing 🙏

Thanks, very helpful. I'm putting a smaller (30") window into an old 60 inch wide opening. Height is 36". Would a single trimmer (jack) on each side of the smaller window (30" wide) be enough? In one of your examples where you put in two smaller windows you had some space between the trimmers in the center, so each window had effectively only a single trimmer on the inside. I found some tables that say double trimmers are necessary if window is over 8' wide. So I'm a bit confused...
@gregvancom
@gregvancom Жыл бұрын
Most of the time if you're installing a smaller window, you can use single of double trimmer. The existing window is already designed to support the load with the larger opening that should have the correct amount of trimmers.

what about install a window with same width but shorter? what do you do then? Add another header beam?
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a header or fill in the areas as shown in the video. You can use a beam or wall framing most of the time to fill these areas.
