What’s the movie about?
Tom Cruise (from Top Gun and Mission Impossible), Jack Nicholson (from The Shining and Batman), and Demi Moore (from Ghost and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) star in Rob Reiner's unanimously acclaimed drama about the dangerous difference between following orders and following one's conscience. Cruise stars as a brash Navy lawyer who's teamed with a gung-ho litigator (Moore) in a politically explosive murder case. Charged with defending two Marines accused of killing a fellow soldier, they are confronted with complex issues of loyalty and honor, including its most sacred code and its most formidable warrior (Nicholson). Superbly directed with a trio of powerhouse performances and an outstanding supporting cast including Kevin Pollak (from The Usual suspects), Kiefer Sutherland (from 24 and Designated Survivor), and Kevin Bacon (from Footloose and Apollo 13).

I don’t think Kaffee was too concerned about embarrassment because some of the missteps fell solely on Galloway. He was pissed off because he liked to keep matters tidy, and his main goal was to always leave himself a clean exit. Her mistake here took him further in on a case he never believed in from GO. BUT, he got away from his percentages thinking, believing this crucial detail could actually help him pull this off - and get back to softball. After this meltdown he’s forced to dig deep to do something about this ordeal that’s just a house of cards.

@@PPLL463 what "push" are you referring to? The acting was great in this movie (especially Cruise and Nicholson) but the story was poorly written, and Demi Moore's character was stupid, shallow and obnoxious. The defense had no case. Once they lost their key witness (Markinson) it was over. And yet Demi Moore's character (Galloway) has the nerve to sit on the sidelines and berate and mock Kaffee as a "chicken sh*t" for not wanting to throw away his career and risk a near-certain court marshal for smearing a high-ranking officer (Col. Jessup), after she botched what little chance they had. Their entire case at that point hinged on whether a high-ranking officer (much less any defendant) would be dumb enough to incriminate himself on the stand. I also find absurd the notion that Markinson would've taken his own life when he was possibly the only one who could've brought justice for Santiago's death, had he been willing to testify.

@@PPLL463 you’ve been watching too much fiction if you think this is what reality is like. The person who originally made this comment was obviously pointing out how bullshit this scene is as reality, even if it’s entertaining as fiction. In real life, no lawyer would base their entire case off getting under a high ranking witness’s skin to provoke an egotistical confession, and to suggest someone to do that is even more horrible considering what you’re really doing is expecting them to throw themselves under the bus while you have nothing to lose. She wasn’t being motivating and this certainly isn’t a thing to take away from a movie to practice in real life. After watching this several times, I understood now why Kaffee was pissed off at Galloway. She failed to validate an important detail of the case which got their asses kicked in court and more importantly almost made them lose the case. Which was ironic considering that in the beginning Galloway, was the one who was berating Kaffee all the time for being such a lazy lawyer. She was the one who initially investigated the case of Dawson and Downey, and yet failed to validate if Downey did indeed see Kendrich give the order to Dawson to execute a code red. She even recklessly irritated Jessup during their trip to Cuba. So yes, Kaffee was right that she did let her passion got the better of it. Had she been thinking more objectively, she would have not missed this, and they would have had a better defense strategy.
@royaneekhalil6488
@royaneekhalil6488 3 жыл бұрын
She didn't irritate Jessup useless per se. More like the writers wrote a woman into the script then became confused how to make her behave because obviously women don't have common sense or subtlety. That is a huge problem with many movies. They forget that women are human who just happen to not be men... Instead of treating women simply as characters with a particular gender, they seem to create a particular gender and try to force that into being the character. SMH

@@royaneekhalil6488 Demi Moore’s character is portrayed as dim-witted, ignorant, clumsy, nagging and even cowardly. The film’s writers should’ve cast Moore as the prosecutor instead of Kevin Bacon, and perhaps added a back story of her and Cruise being former lovers who are now going toe to toe in court to decide the fate of two young Marines accused of murder. With Moore being the lone female cast member the writers should’ve known there was going to be a lot of focus on her and they should’ve made her character more likeable, instead they made her stupid and obnoxious.

I'm reminded of how, during the filming of "Marathon Man", the script called for Dustin Hoffman's character to be exhausted, having run for a long time. So Hoffman, a method actor, stayed up the previous night, and actually ran a lot before the scene. Exhausted, panting, he hoped by this show of commitment to the role to impress legendary co-star Sir Laurence Olivier. But the classically trained Olivier simply asked, "did you consider ... acting?"

Well if Galloway didn't screw up her investigation and examination they would've been back in the game. She was pretty useless.

This is how manipulative narcissists do when they loose arguments with their subjects. Typical in offices with management issues.

To hell with the Oscars. That organisation is a clown world. Tom still did a brilliant acting role in this movie. Oscar worthy or not, it doesn’t matter. This film is a classic.

I gotta say the dumbest lawyer I have seen, one she screwed up by making Downey lie in the court. Second she didn’t even let her own team know that she has done that, awesome team work! And at the end let’s simply ask Jessup, could you please just say that you ordered that code red so we can win and have a pizza! He got pissed just for asking a transfer order, that should have given at least a little clue to the super smart madam lawyer!

Kaffee points out how insane the legal strategy of 'just get Colonel Jessup to incriminate himself and confess to having one of his own men killed.' is and she tries to make it like he's the asshole. Woman moment.

I hated Moore’s character and I also disliked JT Walsh’s character (Lt. Col. Markinson) who goes AWOL and flies a thousand miles to blow the lid on a conspiracy only to then take his own life without testifying.
