A few spare Hornby Dublo and Triang Shells etc.

This is just a quick vid of some odds and ends I keep on hand. I don't have a 3 rail setup to run my Marklin carriages, but I'm thinking these may date back to the 30s. Date coding 3 rail is not one of my skills, I would be interested in learning though.

Hi Steven, it's a real shame with the 4mt. I,v had two locos with Mazak rot in the last few months. A Liliput A4 and a Hornby class 37. Luckily I was able to get spare parts.. I have two marklin tin plate coaches in my German rake, I fitted them with plastic wheels. You have a nice little collection there, they could come in handy one day. Interesting video. It certainly is the blight of the early models, Carl. I have a few other bits and pieces lying around, I could probably make up these shells into running trains. But I just don't need them. I should probably just sell them. I might take them with me to the next train show and see if I can swap them as a lot for something I don't have. A doer upper of sorts. It avoids paying postage, etc. Steven.

Hi Steven, thanks for mentioning my channel its most appreciated. Its a shame the Mazar got into some of the bodies, luckily it looks as though its not too bad. Replacing the lining could be a headache if you want to restore the bodies at some point. The Marklin tin plate wagons look in quite good condition considering their age, a careful polish might restore their finish to some degree. Dating these old tin plate wagons is not easy, I have tried to find more info on them. I can only guess they may be pre 1940 as many toys were stamped made in West Germany after 1945. I hope someone watching this video may be able to date them correctly. I have fitted insulated wheels to a few modern 3 rail Marklin wagons I bought, I even fitted Lima plastic wheel sets in one and it rolls along quite well. Thanks Paul. I have thought about giving them a clean, but decided not to as the transfers may degrade. I keep them upstairs in my train room to prevent humidity from rusting them out. The cost of producing something similar these days would be interesting to contrast. Marklin are one of the original model train manufacturers, and I think they own Flieschmann as well. Mazak rot is a story in itself, I suppose. So many models just self destructing while they sit on a shelf or in a box. I've seen some interesting restoration attempts over the years on bodies that are literally falling to pieces. Mine is nowhere near that, but it remains active,slowly chewing through to the surface. @@stevenpeaketrainsandstuff3682Hi Steven, its true some of these oldies are best left alone if the storage conditions are not ideal. Touch wood I havent been cursed with any mazar rot, I do check my Hornby 9F and 8Fs now and again as I have seen some 9Fs suffer from it. Marklin own Trix as well, I read they continued making the DC 2 rail products from 1980 as it was a popular seller. I am hoping to aquire some more interesting stock soon, this hobby is too addictive but good fun. Cheers, Paul.
