I’m still using the screw in type former identical to your original one mike, it works really well on soft Copper! We use soft copper for brake pipe repairs back in the UK rather than the plated steel, lasts forever that way but not acceptable in all parts of the world. Good old tool that we’ve had it for years

Not so good on steel pipe but works ok for one off jobs - ideal for DIY use though

Thanks Mike. I have just this minute told the wife what I want for Christmas: A GOOD QUALITY BRAKE-PIPE MAKING MACHINE: to replace the one that went missing a few years ago. When are you going to do a video showing a repiping job, that would be a winner in my book. Regards from Yorkshire Rob.

I should do a piping job soon, but go on my home page on this channel and do a search for pipes - you will see I have done a few videos already Mike

Great info, now I know the difference with nuts. Min 7ish confused me about the connector, but you are talking about a specific car? I have a Mercedes and it shows a spacer/connector connecting two sections of the rear brake line, I bought a new connector and the fittings and they fit eachother great. Im going to attempt to replace a rusted section of rear brake line in a Mercedes. Now i know I have the correct parts. Just have to practice doing some flares now.

as Mike said.. main tip when making up brake pipes, make sure you put the correct fittings on BEFORE making the 2nd end.. everyone has done it ( at least once )
@BritannicaRestorations6 жыл бұрын
Even worse when you have a 12 foot pipe all bent and in place and then you find the fitting is backwards!

Bond Engineering UK or Sykes Pickavant UK for flaring tools. Latest Bond one looks a lot like yours :-)

Thanks for the video. Is 3/16" pipe identical in dimensions as the 4.75mm pipe? Thanks.

So where do you use full thread and where dont you?
@BritannicaRestorations2 жыл бұрын
Normally British threads do not use full threaded fittings, but North American do

Not sure if I'll get a reply but... Can I get a reducer fitting to bring down the pipe size from what looks like 8mm to 3/16"? I'm trying to fit a Ford mondeo master cylinder and servo to my 1981 Ford capri. The capri pipes are far smaller than the mondeo pipes.

I think a chap with a lathe could make one - they are not a stock item

@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks Britannica. Yeah I had a brain wave in the early hours 🙄. I'll find a machine shop to turn a couple of sleeves to slide into those couplings 👌. Shocking how many ebay listing show copper pipe then in the small print say steel! Been speaking to a chap that used plumbing solder to set his under sized pipes into those couplings 😳, I'm not keen on that.

Thanks a lot for your great videos. I got a question regarding brake pipe fittings on a TD5 P15. Are the brake pipe fittings all metric M10x1 F or are some SAE fittings used somewhere on the car?
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
They should be all Metric
