It is amazing that any country permits children to be owned like property. That the children get fought over like fighting over a car, or a house or a bank account. It is a process that GUARANTEES the welfare of the child is put a distant last. There are very few times where a CUSTODY hearing could be justifiable.

Managed to find this long out of print film and enjoyed it very much. As a fan of Philip Michael Thomas (Tubbs on Miami Vice) I really liked seeing his performance in this film. It's got great acting by Thomas and Leslie Ann Warren and an intriguing true story.

I know its a story but how can the father take the child out of the state when it is against the law and rules of him having custody of her it should be back to the other party and he not to see the child unless with a court person or police officer...America is crazy with there ruling those days I hope it has changed now for all those kids...😂❤😂❤

Unless it is specifically in the divorce/custody papers, the father CAN legally take the child out of state. When a family member of mine divorced, it was specifically put in the divorce papers that she could not move out of state until their child reached the age of 18....if it's not in the papers, they can move wherever they choose.

David was a very caring stepdad. I guess the father just wanted the child for him and his new wife to play house. Noticed how Julie asked Jenny to call her "mom"? He just used David as an excuse. He didn't care for that girl at all.

I, as a mother, believe that however much a dad loves his child, the mother should allways be given custody UNLESS she is prooven to be an unfit mother BECAUSE she carried the baby for 9months inside her body AND gave birth to the child. For me giving birth was the most horrific experience I ever went through, and only thing that kept me going on for hours and hours of unimaginable pain was that in the end I was going to have the most precious gift in my arms. The thought that a man could say okay now the baby is here and I'm gonna take it for me; I have no idea what I would have done then, I would not be responsible for my actions after that.

Sadly things have changed. Full custody is now often given to the father even if he has been abusive. Ive learned that you never tell the courts that the father has been abusive cause you will lose every time. I lost custody of my daughter and I did nothing wrong. He just had good lawyers, lots of money and is a master manipulator and liar. Its been 15 years and I still dont see my daughter because of the lies he told her.

@@mrsTraveller64 thank you for your kind words. You are so right, I did not get much of a chance to prove I was a good mum, no one believed me about the abuse. I was very naïve and knew nothing about family law or the court system. I could have appealed the first decision but my stupid non caring lawyer didnt tell me. It was so hard to have to hand her over to him knowing she didnt want to go and she was holding on to me begging me not to make her go. It broke my heart into tiny pieces that never healed. Still hurts as much today as it did back then. My tears still flow every day, even right now I cant hold them back. I miss her so much :(

Great 38yr old movie. Ridiculous court filings and courts decision-making made back then. Thank Goodness we have moved forward since this ridiculous case.
