In case anyone wants inspiration: I'm having "pie pockets" for dinner! It's like homemade hot pockets, but I fill the pie crust with lentils, caramelized onions, and chevre goat cheese. Other times I fill with chicken pot pie filling. I usually make about 2 dozen at a time, egg wash and salt/pepper the crust, bake them, and store in the freezer

My grandfather taught me to use mirrors placed in the high tunnels to help heat them through the winter and using heated rocks placed in the dirt around most venerable plants. It works. We had a dedicated raised bed going down the center that we placed the hot rocks every 2 -3 feet all the way down it. Just don't place them to close to your plants.

How often did you need to replace the rocks? Or did you just use them for specifically cold periods? The mirror idea is very wise too!

When ever my dad has some leftover coffee in the coffee pot he pours it in an ice cube tray and freezes it. Then he puts them in a ziplock bag and saves them for when he wants iced coffee and uses them for the ice in his iced coffee

A few vlogs ago you encouraged us not to give up in the middle of July on our gardens. I was so ready to be done. Fast forward to the beginning of August, peas, cukes and marigolds are planted. I'm getting the weeding caught up and am so excited where my gardens are going. Cherry tomatoes bless us daily, peppers and beans, every couple of days. We are experiencing a very dry upper 80-90s summer. Still feeling very blessed. Thanks for continuing to encourage us.

The one thing that is forgotten when growing is that the further away from the equator during your winter, the fewer daylight hours are available, as well as the sun is at an angle that does not allow for vigorous growth. It isn't just temperatures that need to be accommodated.

Trying to plan for a fall garden here in Florida zone 9a. The summer garden was minimally successful. Lots of pests to deal with. I checked and there's still 126 days until a possible frost. Not going to lie, the first thing I did to our big sweet coop when I got it home was to hook up some solar powered fairy lights onto it. They’re currently purple, but the plan is to decorate for Christmas specifically when the time comes!

While harvesting this morning I found lots of tomatoes with ‘issues’ that weren’t worth my time to finish growing or take inside to eat. It was so satisfying to toss them to my chickens that free range, but the younger flock that’s locked up didn’t know what to do with the stale loaf of bread I tossed them. There’s no waste on our homestead!

Thanks to Luke at Migardener, I realized that I could still grow some things later in the year. Being in the north, I thought one go of it and done. This year I have tomatoes and peppers that I started in June that are doing really well and now I have peas, lettuce etc. for the fall also. I appreciate all the information I learn from you.

About the distance to get over ripe fruit and veg to your chickens from your garden; I'd say give that problem to your children. The boys would have a ball designing and building (and using!) your new supersonic rotten fruit catapult launcher. Who knows, if any of them show an interest in the fine points of rocketry, you might be able to feed chickens for MILES around! Lol

Nothing wrong with getting all those offspring of yours to help with the garden trailer/greenhouse project. You could even pay them a little. Let them choose the currency. I'm in Texas zone 9. We grow a porch tomato during winter. We put acrilic panels up and enjoy our wood stove on our back porch. Tomato plant is on a plant stand that can be rolled around to get some sunshine. It sure is nice to have a fresh tomato during the winter. Ok our winter is like 3-5 days....

My granddaughter, Zoe, is a teachers aide and her teacher wants to plant a garden for teaching: planting, maintenance, harvest, cooking, etc.) for her class of special needs students. Zoe and I are planning what they can start seedlings for, direct sow, and plant flowers that can help. We are in Florida and she knew I used your plastic tub method 3 years ago and was so happy, I still do use it for spinach. She asked what to grow in plastic bags to begin the garden and later they will make a long skinny raised bed from cement blocks using no-dig. I told her one bag each for hammerhead spinach and leaf lettuce to direct sow allowing the kids to sow seeds, water, and harvest as a salad. Also, they can start seeds for a zucchini and summer squash in two more bags. They can dehydrate the zucchini as seasoned snacks. We both decided that a few cherry tomatoes would be wonderful but maybe too hard to grow without protection from animals and autumn wind and possible frost. She left me with homework - to find out what flowers can they grow from seed that will survive in the fall. I sat down and started to look then saw your video and decided I needed to rest first. Then you told me: calendula, chamomile, and sweet alyssum. Thank you for your help! They will use the coldest part of winter to start the raised and start seeds for sugar peas, green beans, and maybe pumpkins this spring. This is going to be fun and so much is thanks to you!

Being diabetic, sugars are out..so I use Monk fruit powder,no after taste, very sweet,no calories. Plus my husband froze coffee in icecubes so my ice doesn't dilute my coffee as it melts

If your freeze comes before you get ripe tomatoes, you could pull them green and prep some fried green tomatoes for the freezer, and the Ball recipe for green tomato salsa (which I make without peeling according to the Canadian/Bernardin directions so it's not such a pain to prep), makes an EXCELLENT green enchilada sauce. Just blend the contents of the jar when you're ready to use it. I've also used that sauce to top a smoky breakfast/brunch hash.

I never had been an iced coffee fan. Was a straight up regular hot coffee with milk kind of person, but I tried the brown sugar iced coffee you made on a hot morning where I live and enjoyed it so much. OMG- I can relate to the move excuse ( we moved abt the same time you did) and just commented to my man that I have started feeling the need to get rid of all the boxes and extra stuff. You have such a gorgeous greenhouse! One way to heat it in the winter, without taking up much space would be a tiny woodstove. I think they're actually made for boats and RVs but would work just fine in a greenhouse too!

I just planted some yesterday, my mother always said we were zone 5, if you look at the map we should be 6 but I think 5 is more accurate with the cold and weather we get off the great lakes. I have only found you in recent months but an so enjoying following your journey. As a family we longterm rented a feild nearby and popped a polytunnel up in March this year. I'm teaching people about fall gardening and blowing minds with it! People don't think we can do more than one season of gardening here in Michigan and I'm showing people that's a whole lot of nope. Just gotta know the what, when and where. Girl....my gardening storage bench and shed are a mess. Glad to see we're in cahoots. LOL. Also, I snagged my marigolds the same way earlier in the season from Lowes. Half dead and on clearance....they're now bigger than the greenhouse ones!!!

Slowly we going into spring. I pulled off some suckers from the tomatoes which they gave me a few through our winter (coldest night was about 3C° during the day about 12C°). Now I am waiting for the roots than starting my summer garden. My capsicums gave me fruit all winter. Slowly the garden waking up. So had enough of winter. Hardly can wait to start planting, thanks to Jess encouragement. My strawberries just started to take off. Yippie. You know spring is near when the Cinnamon bush flowering. It is so beautiful makes my heart burst of happiness.

My hubby passed away 4 months ago. I still have my closet to organize. My closet holds all the big plastic storage bins full of Manila envelopes,,,my way of filing. It’s the last of the clean out left for me to do. Your green house will get organized in due time. Your a young Momma and being Momma comes first. Kale actually loves a frost, it gets a lot sweeter. Especially curly kale. As I am from the Netherlands, and it's one of our national dishes: trust me, it is a lot nicer after a good frost!🍀

I'm growing my tomatoes in grow bags this year, then if I have some yucky weather, I can bring them inside for a bit. So far so good. We've been on over 90's and 100's for quite a while now and only a couple days of rain. I live in the desert though so I'm used to it. The bad part is the last few years we've been going from winter and really cold to hot summer weather with no spring. Officially, my first frost date is November 15, but in the last 4 years it was in January. I can't grow Brassicas in spring anymore, because the weather goes from snow to full summer in about a month. But I had great success with cold weather crops in autumn/winter in the last few years.

I make coffee ice cubes with any leftover brewed coffee then use them in iced coffee. *cheers!*

I thought at first it was raining ( with the fan noise in the greenhouse). You definitely need a hammock in the greenhouse for rainy days! Oh, heaven!!
