I really think the plague doctors must have been very cold hearted and yet warm hearted men by the things a lot of them went through, it amazes me everytime i read articles about them for my "history of medicine" subject

I honestly can’t imagine putting myself in such a vulnerable spot making myself susceptible to death in order to try and save others, although by today’s standards their methods to combat the disease proved to be quite useless. Plague doctors are often painted in a negative creepy way but in reality they were people willing to help the sick and dying even if it meant they’d catch the disease themselves. Quite admirable.

One of the most terrifying visages to ever exist. That of a Plague Doctor. Yet, ironically, back during the plague, they were also the only thing people had as far as a ray of hope when it came to surviving said plague. Funny how that is, huh?

@henoji777 Well, if you saw the part where the main character takes off the mask, it's a guy. Also, just pay attention to what the subtitles are saying. I thought the story was quite clear: The narrator was the man's wife telling him about what's happened and how she's waiting to see him.

Watch VERY closely and carefully at 1:56-2:01, when he takes his mask off. It looks like a bug crawls out from under his hat and down his back. If that is indeed a bug, presumably that bug bit his face while his mask was off and infected him.

+Khada De Khada No doctors, plague doctors or any other doctors helped in any way whatsoever. They had no idea what germs or bacteria were. They would not have a clue until the microscope was invented hundreds of years later. And antibiotics a hundred years after that. Today bubonic plague is still everywhere, simple antibiotics are all that's needed for treatment.

Well, you're sort of right. In that time, they thought disease was transmitted by smell, and thought that through the use of flowers, such as roses, and strongly scented herbs, they could ward off the plague.

A mix of religion and "science" at the time. The creepy look was made to ward off demons while also serving as a place to hold flowers and herbs to their faces to keep the smell of the dead away, and as they beleived, the plague away.
