Well I remember designing a version of the BD5a as a seaplane variant way back in 1977 for a guy in Mammoth Lake, CA. But never ever followed up with him afterward.

I am a commercial ATP, 20 hours is absolute bare minimum, where flying with a standard "Pilot" would still be very dangerous. He is a business person who can talk a person into these planes without any real concern for their safety!

Why post a misleading headline? The i con price has gone way up out of reach for even a person wanting to rent. 👎 $359,000 base price with silly Fisher-Price® instrumentation. The AOA gauge is a plus.

I've been following this plane for the past 2 or maybe 3 years now , the price started back in the beginning at 149k and people started putting their 8k deposits on orders. now 250k dollars.. makers went nuts!. With that kind of money I can get 2 planes!

Every video I have seen on this plane they say all you need is 20 hours of training. That is not so. They are leaving out the ground school which is about 40 hours plus 20 hours of in flight training and 10 for the float plane endorsement . Don't get me wrong I would love to own this plane, The price is not outlandish but I will never be able to own one or be able to pay for the flight training.

The late baseball player Roy Halladay died flying one of these planes. Crashed off of Florida in 2017.

20 hours is ridiculous try about 40 to 50 hours before someone feels comfortable taking their family up on this aircraft. These guys need to be honest setting someone up for failure. Just because your VFR doesn't mean you can't get into trouble without proper training need extra hours. Plus the fact is landing on water is mostly restricted to lakes where the FAA says there is established seaplane port and landing areas. Not like the 1920's where you can set down the float plane anywhere.
