A friend in need

Life has its ups and downs, but rarely do you see a swing as dramatically as what 66-year-old Coy Fetherson just went through. Recently homeless in Austin Texas, a photo in a local newspaper alerted old friends he hadn’t seen in years. Steve Hartman reports.

This is one case that has a happy ending. Helping a good person in time of need. Make sense right? These are great warm and fuzzy stories. But, Think about how many of these cases where the good person doesn't get the help. Countless. This is where federal government programs should jump in and provide a social saftey net. This doesn't happen largely. Look at other countries around the world. Surely this is more of an important issue to solve than many of the "flash in the pan" / "shiny object" governmental topics de jour as of late... Just Step back from your pre judgements for a moment and think objectively about it.

Steve Hartman should come with a warning label⚠️: Tissues Required 😭 Coy is indeed the richest man on earth with those giving FRIENDS. These lifelong friends went above and beyond to locate Coy. Clearly Coy’s kindness was never forgotten. Now the kindness has been returned. We all need help during certain chapters of our life. ☮️ and 💟 to these loving folks.

So happy for him. When I meet people who are newly homeless, I tell them, don't stay homeless too long. Maybe a week or two at the most, because the longer you are homeless the easier it is to stay homeless. I see it all the time. I've been homeless for almost 9 yrs. I tried to talk with the local homeless police task force, city council and talked with two sitting Congressmen about solutions to help the homeless. Real ideas and solutions from a homeless persons point of view, not experiments with tax dollars. Council members say its too expensive and Congress says, they are too high in the chain to work at the city level. ( One Congressman said he liked part of one of my ideas and was going to suggest it to some other members). I'll just say this, there is no war on homelessness as there is no war on drugs. You deal with the reality that it is and will always be, then work from there. A war can be won. This is not a war. Homelessness has been recorded since Jesus. Who do you think the leapers were? Politicians are like doctors that treat the symptoms instead of addressing the problem. Oh well, at least I tried. I'm glad there is one more homeless person who has found some peace.

What we witnessed here is love in action, not as some abstract concept but as a here-and-now, hands-on love. What a timely reminder for today's world that is way too short on love, and what a wonderful lesson for all of us. Many blessings to these people, and peace to us all
