Gary, you are an amazing teacher. I would not have a garden if not for your teachings and instructions. I appreciate that you show us visually, step by step on how to do everything! I have been gardening for about 4 years now, still a newbie - your channel has been a blessing. I love to be outside in the garden, my therapy. You help us with every aspect that is needed to be successful gardeners and grow our own food. God bless - much respect and thanks 🍅🫑😍

Gary, congratulations on the good information you have on your channel! I think the LED technology has surpassed ' cheap' shoplights, you should check out todays prices of growlights, for example a 30x30cm panel with 250 samsung lm281b+ diodes only costs around 25 dollar nowadays. Happy growing!

Great Cliffs Notes so to speak! Being a "soil biome' kind of guy, I smiled every time the camera panned by the H2O2. Made the mistake of non-sterile mix for my starts last year and the endless battle with fungus gnats in the house. Great advice to embrace the elemental forms of nutrients for starting seedlings. Let mother nature's fungal / bacterial network do their thing outdoors -- plenty of time for the majority of the growing season to contribute to wonderful, healthy crops without fertilizing throughout the season!

Fungus gnats are the worst. I really think indoor is best left to basic elements. Outdoors let the roots grow into great organic soil for sure.

Hi Gary, I'm using the two cup method for my tomatoes and I'm not sure if I need to keep the roots growing out of the bottom wet all the time. My plants are about 8 in. tall, look sickly. The exposed roots seem to be out of water daily. Any advise? Thank you!

Hi Gary, do you need to do this for string beans and sugar snap peas or they are direct sowing to outside garden? Thanks

Not really. If you have critters that come in and mow down seedlings, it helps. Otherwise direct seeding is good. Thanks for your support and please visit.. Thanks Gary. QUESTION: Are my seedlings too close to the light if the leaves turn upward like a "V"? I notice in your video at time 35:27 top left tray has a few seedlings in it that have the leaves turned upward. Mine have started doing that the past few days after having the lights on for about 14 hours. I leave the lights on 16 hours and the next morning when I check on them they are not pointed up anymore. They have been growing for 2 weeks and are about 2 inches rom the lights.

I recently got some LED shop lights for growing. However, since the output may vary somewhat among brands I'm trying to get a better handle on what the plants are actually seeing. I have a light meter I use for photography that can measure Lux which measures light intensity. I'm wondering if you have ever gotten some intensity measurements. Depending on the height I put the lights I can get readings from 3000 LUX all the way to 20,000+ Lux. I've been doing some experiments with different intensities but I can't be sure it's the light or some other factor (soil, moisture, plant type, etc.) that is affecting the plants. Any idea what intensities would be best for various plant stages?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN10 ай бұрын
I actually never measured Lux values are worried about Par values. Only because I am just growing transplants. I would worry more for flowering and fruiting.

I'm trying to get an answer as to how far apart my grow lights should be from each other. I'm NOT talking about the distance ftom the lights to the seedling. Im using a 18"x48" with 5 shelves in it. I had planned on using three Barrina 4' LED bulbs that are rated at 5000 kelvin. I'm using 10x20 plastic plant trays and was planning on using three bulbs. The two outside bulbs will be placed 4" ftom the edge of that plant tray and the third LED bulb will be centered at 10". All lights will be placed perpendicular to the 10x20 light trays. I could really use your help. Every time i ask the question I'm told how far to place the LED bulbs from the plants and that's NOT what I'm looking for.

I only have space for 2 foot lights, and I'm having no trouble finding led shop lights in the right kelvin range, but can't find anything over around 2600 lumens AND 6000+ kelvins. Would the lower lumens work or would I be really damaging my starts?

In years back I managed with 3000 lumens on flourescent bulbs. I would keep them close at germination if you cant find anything else.'

🙋🏻♀️ Gary, Question about greenhouse plastic for hoop tunnels. Does it have to specifically be “greenhouse” plastic or any 6 mil plastic?

Any 6 mil would work. But you want to make sure it can take the UV rays of the sun. Generally most should.

For the led shop lights, several companies (Barrina, Monios...) offer grow lights in daylight color that are priced similar for both (Grow light or shop lights). In that case, would it be better to go with the grow light? Thank you
@THERUSTEDGARDEN10 ай бұрын
A quality grow light often does better but cost per cost, for tranpslants, i think the basic white LEDs are best.
