I’m 74, nearly 75. We live in a very large desert home. It’s been wonderful through these many years to have the space for friends and family to come and visit/stay. Now the family has spread out, fewer guests and the house is just too large. And with so much space you can keep a lot of stuff! My husband loves this home. He’s not ready to downsize. So I keep decluttering my things waiting for him. We’ve been married 50years this May. So many memories ❤

Just a tip. To get rid of furniture marks in carpet (carpet is densely compressed because of furniture weight), place ice cubes on the depression and allow them to melt. When dampened brush with a stiff bristle brush to raise the fibres, then vacuum as usual. Some carpets (natural fibres) can be steamed to raise the fibres. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.

It's so great to see you two going through your crafting and sewing bins... I have a large box of ribbons, from my Mom. I noticed how the bridal shower ribbons matched your shirt. Somebody will be so happy to have your throwaways/giveaways ~ So, last year, my son & I put Mom & Dad's whole record album collection onto Spotify. It's awesome, and always available at a click to listen to. The album covers are on Spotify also. We took pictures of the sleeves and back of the albums. You might be able to scan the sleeves, backs, and other attachments. Senior centers and extended care in hospitals love puzzles and certain crafts. Felt is such a great kid's crafting fabric. You could roll that hat up to go camping. Your camping bins must be full! Wow, you two are excellent artists! Those are probably keepers for your archives! Do you have a portfolio folder/envelope? The part about putting something over your art in that frame is great! I'm inspired to declutter my storage unit which is mostly crafts, sewing, and books...many of them are Mom's that she thinks I'd love to read. She's a full-on bookworm. You two rocked it today, that's a huge bin full of stuff to go, and three little empty ones to boot! Open space is the place! I love the whole Swedish Death Cleaning thing! It makes so much sense! Mom had three of us kids, after we moved out and had families of our own, and they were ready to move out of our family home, she had give-aways every year on her kitchen table and in the living room. My brother sent his wife to choose things for their house and my sister and I would choose for ours. It was a great way to do the Swedish Death Cleaning thing. You two have this dialed!! Thank you for sharing with us as an inspiration!

I’m 62 and have been cleaning my place out for about 5 years now and it’s also true once you go back through it’s easier to get rid of more and more. And over the years I had just accumulated so much and inherited from my mom and grandmother’s and all of the family photos so it’s been a process. But I love having a clean place and empty spaces!

I have enjoyed watching this video. I have a Mother that grew up in the depression era and she had trouble letting go of things, but little by little she divided her items between my sister and myself so that made her feel good knowing she had control over her belongings. Now that she us no longer here it has been a joy to sort through her things and keep the things that bring the most joy and donate the rest. So glad you and your mother work together, I always look forward to your videos on Sunday. Take care !

I’ve been going through TEN HUGE BINS of photos, scrapbooks and papers from my mom’s house. What a chore! I absolutely have to throw much of it away but I’m keeping special photos and papers. I would say I’ll end up keeping about 10-15% and then we will scan those things to have digitally so I can reduce even more of what is actually kept physically. (I’m hoping to get that down to one photo album.)

Hi Shannon and Kathy! You two have inspired me so very much. I too have a computer that has Windows 7! My son (who is in IT), says I definitely need to upgrade! Too many viruses and cannot be upgraded. So I have been deleting everything off my computer (including photos) so that I can donate it as well as my stupid printer. We never print anything and whenever we do the thing is always out of or has dry ink. Going to buy the scanner you suggested I then am going to declutter and organize photos (two places so not too bad)… but it will be difficult. I moved from IL to SC 10 years ago after raising my 3 boys (2 were the swimmers like yours!), and leaving a 25 yr marriage I am now remarried to a SCian, who knows little in my past life except for the last 7 years we have been married My boys all have scrapbooks and photos from their childhood which I made for them, and so there is no point of saving photos except ones I really want to save Sorry for such a long post So inspired! Beautiful photo of you Kathy!!! Happy New Year to you all. 😊💕🎉

Thank you ladies for the photo journey. The last "Swedish death cleaning" event I continued to snail mail photo's to relevant relatives. The most difficult photo box was of my son, but my daughter is now ready for her brothers photos. (we lost Paul in October 2020) I'm so thankful that I only had one sentimental item of Paul's & that is his tapestry travel bag. It limits what I keep and of course, for now, I have his remains. His piano is now going to my grands & his violin will go to my grandson. His military, baseball, golf, music awards are in the bag for now. You ladies are such an inspiration and I will now re subscribe. I'm pretty sure I unsubscribed when we were Airstreaming earlier this year, as it was part of my declutter before we headed out. OOPS! Happy New Year Shannon & Kathy ~ love & hugs from Wanda, Charleston SC🎄🌴🦩 ( and I'll buy the horse pic for my grand )

Make sure to use a photo safe writing pen/pencil if you want the photos to last for generations along with photo safe albums. All the older albums do not protect the pictures. The number of photo boxes I have is crazy. I have 22 boxes and a few scrapbooks that are filled. I'm doing the pictures last. My mom and grandma's pictures were handed down to me. I tried to narrow down a box one day and there's so many memories..I couldn't do it. Hopefully my decluttering muscle gets better as time goes on. Thank you both for your encouragement and laughter!
