Thank you for the long video, first of the year and I just went through my kitchen again while having your video on. Seeing you helping your mom clean out is great for me. I’m 62 and have been cleaning my place out for about 5 years now and it’s also true once you go back through it’s easier to get rid of more and more. And over the years I had just accumulated so much and inherited from my mom and grandmother’s and all of the family photos so it’s been a process. But I love having a clean place and empty spaces!

My mom had photos and photo albums of us children. I made a scrapbook for my brothers and sisters and nephews and nieces and gave it to them of all their childhood pictures. That's how we got rid of the pictures. I even made one for my parents. It is wonderful how you help your mom. You remind me of me and my mom.😊

I have enjoyed watching this video. I have a Mother that grew up in the depression era and she had trouble letting go of things, but little by little she divided her items between my sister and myself so that made her feel good knowing she had control over her belongings. Now that she us no longer here it has been a joy to sort through her things and keep the things that bring the most joy and donate the rest. So glad you and your mother work together, I always look forward to your videos on Sunday. Take care !

Hi Ladies! Thank you for the encouragement on the photo sorting and decluttering. I have boxes to sort. I have attempted it before and it was too overwhelming. We moved into a larger home in 2012 and it’s easy to accumulate more now that we have more storage space. Your videos have helped me in my decluttering journey. It feels great to actually have closets and drawers that aren’t full anymore. Life is a little easier when you have less stuff to keep track of and take care of. When I take down my Christmas decorations I’m going to restart another round of decluttering. Thanks for inspiring me! 😊

I have the same stuff, the coffee carafe, the wooden basket with the sherry bottles, the sewing magnifying glass, the newspaper birthday memory. Yours is the best video for reasonable decluttering with the advice to keep at it, as in a year you may be ready to let it go.

I’m like Cathy. Every time I think I have successfully decluttered an area I go back and always find more to get rid of. Just watching this video made me think of 7 things that need to go. I paused it and listed 3 of them on Poshmark already. Now I’m continuing to watch and thought of something else. Tomorrow is going to be busy 😂🩷

I enjoy watching your Mom. Letting go of stuff can be hard. She is doing great. I'm starting again in January going room by room and letting stuff go. I only had one regret so far. Got rid of a xmas ornament I had since 2001 last year. I actually missed seeing it this year. It was a secret Santa gift and was mistletoes (actual plastic foot). It was nothing I would buy but missed the regular memory. Nothing else of all the Xmas stuff I decluttered last year was missed.

Thank you ladies for the photo journey. The last "Swedish death cleaning" event I continued to snail mail photo's to relevant relatives. The most difficult photo box was of my son, but my daughter is now ready for her brothers photos. (we lost Paul in October 2020) I'm so thankful that I only had one sentimental item of Paul's & that is his tapestry travel bag. It limits what I keep and of course, for now, I have his remains. His piano is now going to my grands & his violin will go to my grandson. His military, baseball, golf, music awards are in the bag for now. You ladies are such an inspiration and I will now re subscribe. I'm pretty sure I unsubscribed when we were Airstreaming earlier this year, as it was part of my declutter before we headed out. OOPS! Happy New Year Shannon & Kathy ~ love & hugs from Wanda, Charleston SC🎄🌴🦩 ( and I'll buy the horse pic for my grand )

Make sure to use a photo safe writing pen/pencil if you want the photos to last for generations along with photo safe albums. All the older albums do not protect the pictures. The number of photo boxes I have is crazy. I have 22 boxes and a few scrapbooks that are filled. I'm doing the pictures last. My mom and grandma's pictures were handed down to me. I tried to narrow down a box one day and there's so many memories..I couldn't do it. Hopefully my decluttering muscle gets better as time goes on. Thank you both for your encouragement and laughter! Happy New Year!!

Are you concerned about storing photos and papers in plastic? I am old but have learned technology changes. All of the stuff we stored on floppy discs have gone, non accessible. That may happen. to your discs as well. I checked with local museum to find their sources for archival preservation of the family history stuff.

After you scanned the photos & documents and put them in a digital photo book, then did you throw the photos away? If not, why not? That's what I'm struggling with. I mean, I scanned the photos & made the photo book in order to toss the photos, but I can't seem to toss the photos, especially the old ones! --Barbara
@aradasky2 күн бұрын
Thousands of slides and photos were tossed after my digitalization. NO ONE had looked at the slides or albums in YEARS. The best are now on a screensaver that shows on our TV and we see all the photos that were hidden before. We love the memories that we see all the time, now. I did keep one small album of old, family photos.

Re your ancestors album that your mom is planning to make I had an idea... Wouldn't it be beautiful to write down all the various information about the photos and then take a photo of it so it can be included in the album? That way you will have her writing and the info!!
