*One of the saddest movies ever existed. You literally feel empty inside during whole journey and there is no fulfillment afterwards, just more emptiness and sadness.*
@GoddoDoggo
@GoddoDoggo 3 жыл бұрын
No fulfillment? I completely disagree. The entire film is him clinging to this house, not letting it go nor moving on, for hundreds of years, starting to repeat the same cycle again. _That_ is sad. But at the end, when he finally lets go, that's a relief, the cord being cut. I thought that was plenty fulfillment, tbh.

This movie was absolutely breathtaking. I went to see it the night it came out and when it was over, I was left with this incredibly overwhelming feeling of uncertainty. The pacing was slow but that's what the movie is all about, a ghost observing life around him moving on while being unable to move on himself. Highly recommend it. The soundtrack is amazing too.

This is a reminder of what cinema should be. Films now are way too gimmicky, we don't really feel anything. This film is evocative, heartbreaking yet beautiful and strongly poignant. The cinematography is incredible and it captures everything great about films and why film is the best medium. Forget ridiculous dialogue and 250+ million dollar budgets, films should stay with you long after the credits roll and there is no doubt 'A Ghost Story' does that. In a nutshell 'A Ghost Story' is a beautiful reminder of why films are so important to me.

I’m a guy, I love this movie. My wife, she hated it. She went out for a walk halfway through the pie eating scene saying it was ridiculous. I wondered why. I have experienced very painful loss, while my wife has not. I cared for my Mom as she died of cancer for a year, my childhood best friend of 30 years died of cancer at age 43, a close friend/co-worker was murdered and now my Dad is soon to pass as he’s in hospice with dementia. Loss is life changing. I still grieve the loss of my Mother years later and my friend more recently. But now, I’m a Dad to a wonderful little boy. And I cannot imagine him feeling that pain someday when I die. We are as close as father and son could possibly be, I swear sometimes we are two bodies sharing the same soul, he is a piece of me. So I watched this thinking about being on both sides of that grief. I would absolutely be Ghost C, standing by my son, watching, and grieving alongside him. For some, this movie was abysmal. They absolutely hated it. For others, like me, it was profound and struck something very deeply..

I’m with the crowd that loved it. This film hit me hard, and it seems to feel a little different each time I watch it. In some ways, I feel like it’s age. The way our perception of time changes as we get older. When you’re a kid you just want summer vacation or Christmas or your birthday, and it always takes forever for those days to get here. When you’re older, you look in the mirror like, “WTF happened?! I was just waiting for summer vacation yesterday!” I was holding my Grandma Dot’s left hand when I heard her last breath leave her at 1:41pm on April 13, 2003. I remember it like it was yesterday. It’s like a minute and a million years ago at the same time. I’ve experienced a lot of loss, too. My grandma and grandpa, who I grew up with. My dear friends Joe and Georgi, who were like parents to me. My friend David, who was a Cherokee elder who taught me so many beautiful things. The dogs! Gus, Clancy, Hugo, Eddie, Millah, Truman, Hunter, Mugsy, Chaplin, Dilly, and Ninja. My cats Willow and Fezzik. And even just simple change is death, in a way… I don’t have anyone to remember me. I hope I don’t wander when I die. A few years ago I started writing about my life, the people and animals I’ve met, the stories they told me, things we did, things I did, places I saw, everything. My house is filled with memories, with things they gave me or that remind me of them. There’s a story for each piece, all written down. I don’t have anyone to tell those stories to, no one to pass them on, but I like to imagine that when I die, the person who goes through my life will do so with curiosity and mindfulness and time. I want those people and things to matter, and maybe they’ll be passed down by someone who wondered. I feel so lucky that I actually knew! I like to walk around antique stores and vintage shops. I like to imagine the history. Who wore this dress? Was she funny? Smart? What about that hat? The man that put it on his head? Did he have strong hands? What children played with these toys? The food prepared in those pots and served on those dishes? On and on and on. Will someone do that with my stuff when I’m gone? I’m here now, imagining it, but where will it all end? How will people know that beautiful young woman with the dog in that old photograph was my Great-Grandma Trixie? Born in the 19th century, yet I knew her, and I’m here in the 21st century and not even 50 years old yet… Time. And we do want to endure. You seem to have an open mind and a huge heart, and your son will carry that forever… ❤️ Yep. This movie hits soooooo deep… 😭

This movie... I remember watching this movie by chance. It was one of the options for free movies on an airplane. Movies I would typically never watch. But it was there. So I did. And man.. I don’t think any movie has ever left me feeling so depressed, empty yet introspective. Everything in this world is temporary. Including us. Time just keeps going. All these fleeting moments that we don’t appreciate until they’re gone. They don’t seem important until we can no longer get those moments back. And one day, it will all be gone. One day I will be completely forgotten. And so will you. Does any of it even matter? Or is that just all the more reason to live in the moment. And appreciate the things we have. To love the people closest to us. Make the most out of everything. Because someday, it will all be gone.

I'm actually energized by this film. In fact, astronomy can make a person feel crestfallen as well as purposeless but in reality, astronomy actually excites and thrills me. It's awesome that we are Lilliputians on a tiny speck of dust in this virtually infinite universe and yet we can figure it all out through inquiry and empiricism. This is why I've always loved science and astronomy in particular. We don't have a purpose from a grand, cosmic perspective but the purpose to keep on living and of life in general is the exploration of oneself and to discover what drives you to want to see tomorrow. A job can do that. Your purpose to life is what you give it. It's not written in the sky. You are the author of your own life, so to speak. My rating of A Ghost Story: A+.

the ending of this movie had me sobbing. im not really sure why, and the feelings this movie left me with i cant explain either. casey's character gave me heavy feels of hopelessness and sadness throughout the film, and seeing his life loop around again and then him reading the note and vanishing.. i dont know. i just cried.

This is one of the most profound, haunting, ethereal, philosophical and breathtaking films I've ever seen. A Ghost Story was one of my most anticipated films of the year and it has surpassed my expectations immensely. If I see a better film this year I will be absolutely stunned. What elevates this film from a great one to an extraordinary one is because it completely (and I mean completely) transcends it's genre. It shows time and love in a completely original and utterly spellbinding way, through the theme of eternal connection. If it's available in a cinema near you, seek it out immediately. David Lowery has crafted a modern-day masterpiece.

truly a beautiful movie. I watched it the 2nd time last night. if you’re one of those people who thought it was boring then you didn’t understand it at all. There’s a reason why the semingly small, unimportant moments are given a lot of time (such as many of the scenes earlier in the film, like Mara and Affleck cuddling, the infamous pie eating scene, etc), while years can pass in a single second. I bawled my eyes again watching this.

SPOILERS (maybe) I went to see this film after hearing about it from Connor Franta... I was so looking forward to seeing it because through the trailer I adored the way it had been filmed with the old fashion film look and it looked naturally and simply beautiful. I was not disappointed and adored the elongated scenes because it just showed the reality of living in this world filled with love and loss. The scenes emphasized the reality of just living and spending time with someone and being in the company of someone you love and miss. The film just showed a real life of a couple soon to be split from a physical being of a relationship, into a spiritual one. The scenes where relatable and I adored every minute and made me think about some things. I think this film is for anyone, however can appeal mainly towards the deep thinkers and people who enjoy hidden messages and thinking about what the director/ creator is trying to portray and it's fun doing so. I feel sad to hear that some people didn't give this film a chance, however, directors/ creators can't please the entire world as people are forever going to have contrasting views because we are only human... Thank you for the wonderous and beautiful film and I look forward to many more from you (I hope) .
