I've been listening for a while and I wanted to say thank you so much for doing whatever you have done to make your podcast so much louder than other people's are. I primarily listen while I'm at work and I work in a steel shop that is very loud. I can always hear your show and that's not something I can say for other shows.

Wow you're the first person to notice! It's a pet peeve of mine as well, when the audio of whatever I'm watching or listening is so low (and it's not supposed to be cinematic), so I go through a lot of work to make sure the audio sounds really clean and is compressed loudly enough so that it should sound clear to anyone regardless of how they're listening. Thanks!

Side note, its Worf's training sim so he's probably taking lots of things from being a Klingon or personal experience. Weapons he likes using, challenging foes, a mixture if settings so that would explain the randomnous of the holodeck setting.

I never thought the self destruct was petty. The reason for the horrifying death of that officer was to showcase how that third or half of the crew would most likely be tortured extensively before dying. They may even be forced to kill each other in the process. No matter if they do survive, no one would escape being tortured and prodded. Self destruct is the best option all things considered to spare the crew from inhuman experimentation and torture.

Something biologists have to deal with when studying a new/rare species is that capturing it can put it into so much distress that it essentially will self destruct, even if you put it in an environment that matches what it's used to -it still perceives it's under threat. I almost see that as analog to this: it's going to kill itself if you don't release it back into the wild, and if you're an ethical researcher you'll release it before that happens.

The thing that occurred to me while watching was, there are more methods of death than there are people on board. So, that estimate of 30% was likely just a lie. Also, a lot of methods of death are very slow. Like, do you want to just sit there for months or years while crew members are dying from leprosy, cancer, dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc? It's never said aloud, but there are a couple knowing looks between Riker and Picard, where Picard's expression basically says, "I can go into detail if you need me to explain everything," and Riker's expression basically says, "No, I already get it," in the moment where Picard brings up the idea for the auto destruct.

I think Worf should have had a bigger party of the episode because I disagree with Marvin; I don't think Worf would be stoked to die because for a Klingon suicide by your own hand. Unless you're like winning a war and deleting an entire opposing army with your self-destruct, I feel like Worf would see it as an act of cowardice, not mercy or defiance. They were self destructing to save their crew from whatever fate Nagillum's experiments had in spite for them, and as a principle that they wouldn't participate or allow such an unethical experiment. If they were self destructing because they knew it'd kill Nagillum, then Worf might be stokrmed
