Within the context of the show the way it was there is still a decent in universe explanation for why the paper was able to leave the holodeck but Moriarty could not. That is the holodeck uses replicator technology for simple non interactive matter (water, paper, food). This would also explain past episodes where characters got wet in the holodeck and remained wet when leaving (also it would be at the very least weird feeling to eat a meal in the holodeck then have it dissolve into energy immediately in your stomach when leaving the holodeck).

One thing about sherlock is that in the of books he's often kind and compassionate, this aspect of his character was what they often fought over for copyright, that's why all the other versions of sherlock suck, they have to be annoying or an asshole to avoid copyright problems.
@MissMadCherry9 ай бұрын
True, that's one of the reasons why I like Jeremy Brett's portrayal the most because his Holmes does have the kind and compassionate side most of the other portrayals are missing.

FYI Conan Doyle didn't want to bring Holmes back after the waterfall stunt. He wanted to go do other things but he was given SHIT TONS of money to write more Holmes and he's like "fuck it, I rather have the money" so put out continued Holmes books just for the pay checks.

Ship names absolutely did get passed down through history in real life and do get passed on in trek's world. Irl its less of a thing from the 20th century on but before that it was fairly common. Iirc correctly the HMS Invincible was used for multiple ships. So was HMS York. And I think the Resolution. Also, Trek's Enterprise is named after the real USS Enterprise carrier.
@NewbieStarTrek2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's the other way around, they named the USS Enterprise after star trek
@kryptoknightmk12 жыл бұрын
@@NewbieStarTrek Entirely possible, I'm just going off the top of my head. Either way, I know various ship names in the Royal Navy have been passed on in history. Edit: Actually, One quick Google search later and while I was wrong about the carrier coming before the show the name Enterprise does have a considerable history in naval service: USS Enterprise (1775), a Continental Navy sloop captured from the British, burned to prevent recapture in 1777 USS Enterprise (1799), a schooner that fired the first shots in the First Barbary War USS Enterprise (1831), a schooner, stationed primarily in South America to patrol and protect commerce USS Enterprise (1874), a steam-powered sloop-of-war used for surveying, patrolling, and training until 1909 USS Enterprise (SP-790), a motorboat (1917-1919) used in World War I as a non-commissioned section patrol craft USS Enterprise (CV-6), an aircraft carrier (1938-1947), the most decorated U.S. ship of World War II USS Enterprise (CVN-65), the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier (1961-2017) USS Enterprise (CVN-80), a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, under construction and scheduled to enter service by 2028

afaik, they did NOT clear this episode with the Doyle estate, and the estate threatened to sue and that's why we didn't revisit this plot again until like season 7

19:52 Both "Elizabethan" and "Victorian" refer to the person who was monarch of England at the time, namely Elizabeth I and Victoria. It's not a hard concept to grasp, lol. Elizabeth was mid-1500s to 1600, and Victoria for basically all of the 1800s. Elizabethan is like Shakespeare. Victorian is Sherlock Holmes.

Was in the film business. The Sherlock Holmes IP is actually historically been one of the most accessible to get permission to use. I live in a small community of about 130,000 ppl. We have a local community TV station that got the rights to make a Sherlock TV show. Whoever had been managing it actually had been one of the good ones for supporting smaller productions and theater

The thing about this episode is left over from the episode with the Binars. The Binars when improving the ships computer and messing with the holodeck like they did with Riker gave the ship sapients which is so lightly touched on it’s frustrating.

Considering ship names being passed down as a mantle. That is definitely the case with the Enterprise. There was an American ship during the War of Independence that was called Enterprise. In World War 2 the USS Enterprise was the most famous aircraft carrier of the US Navy. Enterprise was also the name of the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier of America (I think). And currently, the US Navy is buidling another ship that is gonna be called Enterprise. And Gene Roddenberry picked Enterprise as ship name for TOS because of the mythos surrounding that name. So at least "Enterprise" is kind of an honorific mantle passed down in the American Navy. I guess Starfleet works the same way?

Yes 20:00 that would be me. I know about the HMS Victory, and you can't use the excuse of being American as I know about ships from American history yet I am not American, such as, the USS Enterprise from WW2, and the fact that the navy still have the constitution class ships like Star trek, hence where it comes from. With respect to the time periods, I mean, again as a none American I still can tell you about 1776, war of independence, and the civil war, plus the Emancipation Proclaimation even though I don't listen to hip hop. Come on guys, gimme some prior research 😂😂
