Steve, I've been a big fan of your videos for a while now and, with the motivation from your page, I'm striving to become a polyglot. I am B1-B2 in German and my Persian (A more Dari variant, however) is just a bit better than that. I've wanted to be a polyglot since 2014 when I started learning German as a 12 year old and channels like yours have really supported me. It was awesome to see your development in a language that I have come to love. I plan to study Hebrew next and am excited to continue developing these languages I have been blessed to learn. Thank you for all the supportive and motivational videos you make that help so many of us "wannabe-polyglots." تشکر زیاد از همه کارتان

You speak Persian quite well and sweetly Steve and I think you've focused mostly on vocabulary which is amazing but I'd work on my grammar too if I were you. The phonology part can be forsaken since us Iranians are totally accustomed to foreigners mispronouncing GH and KH sounds. 👍🏻

Hi steve. You are the best. I wanna mention something on a word you said: Namidunam means I don't know in Farsi. Actually the standard of this word in Iranian TV and Radio (sth like RP in English), the pronunciation is Nemidunam but in accent of Shiraz City it is Namidunam which you used it. Astonishing! Good luck. I'm Hamed from Shiraz.

I speak and study some languages and I have realized how challenging is to find material with transcript in certain ones. Sometimes, I have to use auto-generated subtitles and speech to text softwares, which are not very accurate. It gets to a certain point that having a native tutor is useful.

Very inspiring video! I'm trying to become conversational in Farsi because my boyfriend is Iranian, however, I'm finding it difficult to figure out a strategy. I'm trying to learn it without actually learning how to read and write Farsi, since I only want to be able to have conversations in Farsi, but hearing you speak about the importance of reading is making me unsure whether this is a good idea. Maybe other learners can share their experience with learning Farsi without learning to read and write Persian script? And does someone know if there is Farsi content online that uses the Latin alphabet (so "Finglish")? All the languages I know so far (German, English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch) use the same alphabet and have big similarities to at least one other language I knew before, so learning Farsi which is quite different (I know some words are very similar to German or English words) seems daunting enough already without having to learn the script. Plus, since I'm not really interested in reading and writing Farsi, just hearing and speaking it, I think I wouldn't be motivated enough to go through the difficult process of learning the script.
@yarsaz4347

Tajik Persian uses Cyrillic. The Persian script itself isn't hard to learn, it's the short vowel guessing that's difficult.

Thanks for all your excellent work, Steve. After deciding to learn French, I feel as though I've made more progress in about two months on LingQ than I did with the previous 18 months of Duolingo, thanks to stumbling upon your videos a few months ago. I find the contrast extraordinary. I do have a question about your LingQ process I've not seen addressed explicitly (apologies if I've missed it). When you import content with associated audio, do you run through the document first creating LingQs, before listening to it for the first time? This is generally what I do but it can be quite time-consuming with long content such as Netflix episodes, or chapters of novels I have an audiobook, and it also ends up to some extent "spoiling" my first exposure to the story. Do you have any process recommendations here? I should note I don't like to let the system automatically mark words as known, which perhaps is the reason for my slowness. This being my "first second" language, I'm not quite confident enough to take that approach, which I think might differ to your preference. If you do end up with the time and inclination to create a video on this particular topic, it would be hugely appreciated and I'm sure there are others facing the same question. Cheers!
@Thelinguist
@Thelinguist 2 жыл бұрын
I vary my approach but mostly I listen first. I tend to go through the lesson in sentence mode. Depending on my level in the language I may listen to much more of the content than I am able to get through reading and looking up words. It's all exposure. You don't need to understand everything.

Hi again Steve, in Lingq German mini stories, i have come across many typos... Inside the mobile app, there's no option to report these issues. Luckily the audio is correct. Other than that, i have a quick question, do you think the last mini stories 40~50 until 60 cover B2/ or at least B1 comprehensibility level?

I've read all the 60 mini stories in Japanese and I've memorized nearly all the words used in them but I'd say my Japanese is probably still A2-ish. The mini stories are great but there's a lot of basic vocabulary that they don't cover (animals, numbers, emotions, etc.)
