I know what you mean. For me I'm mostly okay as long as the design is nice. Sometimes, I'll pass on stuff I know because the figures look average and, on the other hand, buy random stuff I don't know because it looks nice.

My favorite anime of all time, Haibane Renmei - has only ancient garage kits, Time of Even (no merch), Crest of the Stars (no merch nowadays). I have DVDs and collectors Blu-Rays though. As for figures, I just got Punishing Gray Raven Lucia and Bianca... excellent, excellent design (Bianca beats Saber imho in femininity), but then I tried the game (I'm a PC/console player) and I just find a barely ported tap-a-thon tablet game -- what a waste of 3D animations if they didn't provide a proper controller-supported combat system! For flavor of the month anime, I just glance at their prize figures and go, eh, looks kinda off, and skip collecting figures of them entirely even though they're so cute animated. So in conclusion... sometimes, you just gotta stick to the strong points of a franchise. Even in anime/game/comic culture, some are best as film, some as games, some as designs. That's why there are so many original illustrator/industrial designer outputs in the figure industry.

Yeah, at the end of the day, collect whatever you enjoy. If there's no merch, then just enjoy what you can out of the franchise. For me, there's so many gacha games that I either don't have time for or don't really care too much for in terms of gameplay, but the characters and designs are nice, so I don't mind grabbing their figures.

See, her winking eye is set high & correct, unlike Snail Shell's Aileen's sleep positioned winking eye. Both figures look great tho.

@@NoGoodFigures Yes, that is a good compromise. I have Aileen in hand with her winking face. LOVE THIS FIGURE! I even reached out to a couple China toy sellers to find out about acquiring her mocha skin twin. Which finally I was successful in pre-ordering her from ShowZStore. Anyway, her low closed eye doesn't look correct to me. But I like your viewpoint.

Nice! I really like the look of the sunkissed version, but probably won't end up getting her unless I manage to nab one after. That's fair for the eye, sometimes things can just look a bit off for whatever reason.

Figma should do more soft goods for popular characters with dress, gown, mantle, etc. The recently announced TOTK Zelda is a big fail to me because they used "flexible" plastic instead of soft goods for her dress, which rendered her legs useless 🗿 I remembered watching Actar's review on Figma Index way back when, and she came with soft goods. IDK why they didn't do it a lot more for popular characters 🤷‍♂️

Oh no, Zelda got the SHF Fern treatment. I feel figma soft goods are a bit hit and miss, but I have somewhat limited experience with them. There's some little armory (Variant D, E, F) figma coming out and the fabric skirts look pretty bad

This looks nice, it's interesting looking at this from the perspective of someone who mostly puts together model kits, Gunpla, 40K, and Kobokukiya's bishojo kits. The prices are better for model kits, but the lack of seams on this is pretty amazing. I might still end up getting this though, I've been meaning to learn to sew, and it would be nice to have a model to quickly prototype clothes on.

Some custom clothing would be awesome! That's been at the back of my mind actually, might get into that later. I also think these base body figma would be good for kitbashing assuming you need some clean looking stuff.

Kinda cute! The sweater would probably look good on a magami device body, they have good looking shoulder articulation (I think all recentish bodies by masaky aspy do, but I don't remember well)

I'd be a bit worried about the sweater getting caught on the plastic on model kits, but otherwise it should fit on megami devices (similar to how it fits on Aileen). I think Masaki Apsy actually does a lot of figma sculpts too!

​@@NoGoodFiguresI've seen a few people putting 1/12 clothes on model kit figures, as long as you are careful it should be fine, the base bodies are usually solid. I'm not too much of a fan of the nikkeish "girl in a civilian outfit with just a few mecha element and a random rifle" aesthetic, but it can be done well with plamo girls (zaku aurelius painted a megami device kit with a resin hoodie and mechanic legs, it worked well)

One question regarding kit bashing, did you notice a difference in skin tone compared to licensed figures? I own the Chiaki Swimsuit figure, which released quite a while before this one and I noticed she is less pale than most other Figma. Under certain lighting conditions it's sadly quite apparent when combining/interchanging parts. I wonder if they "fixed" that with her release?

I mentioned it more as a possibility, so haven't really tried. I'll compare her with Lanze and Mona later and let you know. You mean Swimsuit Chiaki is darker? My initial thought would be that it's a tan and a 'feature'

She's not really tan, so I don't think that's the intention. She looks like she has a normal bright skin tone. It's only upon closer comparison that she is more skin-toned (more red/yellow) than most licensed figma, which have a brighter/pale skin leaning towards white. I initially bought her specifically for kit bashing and I only noticed it upon replacing her head. It's not "offensively" obvious but it's still fairly visible when parts are this close together. I was wondering if they maybe changed that for later releases. At least in the video I couldn't clearly make out if the skin tone was different. Thanks! I just compared her to Jalter and Mona again, because I started to question, if I maybe remember it more apparent than it was, but at least with mine the difference is quite stark between the two.

I just checked, and even in somewhat poor lighting, the difference is quite apparent. Chiaki does have a more saturated yellow tone while most other girls are more pale. She's more saturated compared to Lanze, NH-02, Jalter, Mona. And more similar to UMP9, Ch'en Tosholincho san. Feels like they just go with whatever seems closest to the reference material. I did a quick Google and differences in skin colour between the characters above were quite apparent too. Very interesting.

Most figma styles outfits can be bought separately and should fit Tapigal well (she should be similar size Aileen). Try searching for them! Hasuki also makes some separate 1/12 clothes.

Figma with real fabric still mid for me compared to other company... I think figma should RnD more... Like the next figma little armory release with cloth skirt looks a bit off... In my opinion...

GoodSmile is going crazy with Figma Armed JK gals, around $60 for one figure with 1 alternative pair of hands and solf skirt? Plus if you want alternative faceplaces or whatnot you need to pay another $40 for one pack! For $100 I can get so much better figures it's not even funny.
