SUPERTASK OF THE PROJECT: Not just to solve the environmental problem of reverse osmosis desalination plant brines, but to organize the process of recycling brines with maximum economic benefit.
The extraction of fresh water from brines may not be the primary focus of the disposal technology for the Arabian Peninsula.
The physical process known as evaporative cooling can create favorable conditions for growing fruits and vegetables in greenhouses under extreme heat, where even at night, the temperature does not drop below 30°C.
For evaporative cooling, it is not necessary to use valuable fresh water; it is sufficient to cool the brine in cooling towers.
During this process, a significant amount of water is lost as water vapor, but this only helps to dispose of large volumes of brine from reverse osmosis desalination plants.
The developed multi-stage desalination technology for brines with increased salt content is based on the technology of continuous mechanical cleaning of heating surfaces from salt deposits during the evaporation of brines.
Even if solid salt particles form as sedimentary structures (sludges) during evaporation, this does not affect the operation of the new evaporators, as the resulting sludges are transported by a screw structure rotating in the drum to the point of concentrated solution discharge into evaporation ponds.
Due to the high concentration of the evaporated solution, there is no need to allocate large areas for these ponds to remove residual water from the surface under high solar insolation and dry air conditions.
Thus, creating conditions for growing agricultural crops in greenhouses on the Arabian Peninsula is linked to the proposed process of utilizing brines that are hazardous to the environment.
Using the unique conditions of high solar insolation and the new multi-stage evaporation technology in film evaporation drums, the severe environmental problem of contaminating marine flora and fauna can be transformed into an inexhaustible resource for agricultural production in an extremely hot and dry climate.
