This is actually the fourth, maybe fifth game in the series. King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame came out in 2009, with a stand-alone expansion called Fallen Champions coming out two years later in 2011. Then King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame came out in 2012, and that game had an expansion called Dead Legions that first tackled the whole "undead Romans" thing that this game expands on. And then of course, King Arthur: Knight's Tale came out a decade later in 2022, and now we have Legion IX. Although they never advertised much about it, these are all games set in the same universe and following the same canon.

Honestly I wish for a way to the the original running on Modern Machines, I still consider it the best in the series and am infinitely disappointed they seem hell bent on staying away from the original rts concept.

it is not really a series. the first 2 you ve mentioned are total war like stategies. and the last are xcom like medieval trpgs. the only thing in common between first 2 and second 2 are King Arthur lore and developer

This game has one of the most awesome premises I've seen in a long time. A bunch of roman legion zombies decide to invade the magical kingdom of Avalon. Thats a fucking story beat we haven't seen before.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first one - that we played as Mordred against an evil King Arthur was a cool premise and with the choice of going good/evil faithful/heathen (-esque) with it too, there was a fair amount of replayability in getting it done with the various possible paths, heroes and builds. Even the basic base upgrading was interesting enough. Looks like they're refining the process and getting more and more done for the same money - eventually they'll have a cool little series to remaster and release as a whole, perhaps.

I don't like the way the skills work, the lack of tactics/positioning/landscape make it feel hollow. It should play more like X-Com or Divinity 2 imo, or better yet Battle Brothers. I might have had too many games on my plate at the time so I'm going to give the game another try.

Expeditions Rome is just soooo good. It's hard to keep up as other RPGs. I guess this will be on my wishlist until it's on a big sale like the other King Arthur game.

Its very cool when you have the Camelot or The Roman Wannabe(In Legends) figthing againts the OG Romans. Ngl the genre of Old Empire rise back to reclaim their old glory againts the new kingdom that rose up from their bygone empire is a very cool genre that not many game have ever tried. And even so they are mostly antagonist.

Been playing King Arthur: Knight's Tale and really enjoying it! Will be picking this up for sure! On a side note, there's a great film about the 9th Legion (non zombie) called Centurion (2010) staring Michael Fassbender and Directed by Neil Marshell (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday) Thought it was quite good and certainly worth a watch imo 😎👍

The first game was beyond amazing and definitely a "modern classic" in every sense and I'll definitely be getting this one. They seem to have improved some of the weaker aspects of the original like "base building" so it's going to be a lot better than just "more of the same"...

The 9th Legion was shredded in the second century CE in north-eastern Turkey, near Elegeia (ancient Armenia). They were in Britain 60 CE, to fight Boudicca, where they lost almost all their foot soldiers, while the cavallery ran.

Maybe I'm a simple man, but I really liked King Arthur - mostly the story, visuals, and so forth kept me going. I think it helped me ignore the small things that were annoying. Was looking at getting this so I'm glad you were able to do a play of it.... Wow.. the voice acting in King Arthur was much better than this though.

It's a pretty good scam, they try to sell it as if it's good value, but you'll buy it and realize it's a DLC sized game that costs half of a game. Then you want the base game, and have to buy that one all over again. The more industry normal/responsible approach would be to discount the base game by half (like how much they charge for this) and then release the DLC for 5 or 10 USD, so that you can buy the whole thing for 25 or 30 bucks and get everything (because, if you enjoy this, why would you not enjoy the first game).

​@@zxbc1M8, do you know what "scam" means? A scam involves deception and I don't think the developer scammed anyone. Too many people using that word without knowledge. A scam would be Sony selling Helldivers and not telling anyone for six months before dropping a PSN account requirement and Arrowhead is complacent for not saying anything AND not implementing it because they knew backlash would happen. (It would've been far smaller, but I also doubt they'd have sold half as much as they did either.)

I think basically everything but the combat is better in expeditions: Rome. I just find the combat a lot more engaging in king Arthur and the rest is passable at least so at the end of the day I Rather play that. I have completed King Arthur campaign twice, stil not finished Expeditions: Rome..

No, the 9th Legion disappeared in Germania, they were wiped out by the Germanic tribes that inhabited the region, and it's pronounced glad ius, not glade ius

Not quite right about the 9th. "The Ninth was formed in 65BC and fought in Hispania and Gaul before taking part in Claudius's invasion of Britain in AD43. The legion then helped maintain the Roman empire's grip of Britain although it suffered a serious defeat during Boudicca's rebellion in AD61. Then, around AD117, all mentions of the legion vanish." -The Guardian I'm thinking you probably meant the legions lost in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest?
