Mhm, I agree! Also, a Polish friend of mine told me once that, to his people, Czech people sound like children talking. Now I get why, having heard Poles speaking for hours...the two languages are similar, but Czech is simpler in its sounds!

Damnit. You keep doing videos on the exact kinds of games that I've never heard of, but would totally want. You had me sold when you mentioned that it was a Company of Heroes styled RPG gameplay that feels alot like a post apocalypse with its setting in the Russian Revolution. I've always wanted a game that's reminiscent of Fallout Tactics' squad based combat, but had a proper story to go along with it. I'm still playing through Airship Kingdoms, and Colony Ship is installed, but completely untouched until I finish the current game I'm on. I'd still be playing Zed Zone if not for the fact that it crashes every 15-30 minutes like a Bethesda game.

Thanks for another great video and thanks especially for picking this game - while the devs are part of THQ Nordic now, they have a long history going back to games like Mafia or ARMA and Last Train Home seems to be their own passion project which was luckily greenlit and funded by THQ giving the game sort of indie feel with good production value at the same time. I mean to say, exceptions to the indie rule like these do not hurt the channel imo. 😃👍

"Media" Media doesn't pick up anything. It falls to poles to make games about Warsaw Uprising, it falls to people, who survived Balkan wars to make This War Of Mine, it falls to czechs to make the game about their history. "Media" in a way you think of it 1) doesn't really exist as some sort of unified entity; 2)goes after the biggest profit margin as any business that has no other goal(if the founder of newspaper has said goal to push his agenda OR on the contrary pursue truth at any cost, then it can differ. But businesses with board and CEO are not homogenous enough to have such goal). And said profit margin is what sells and what takes the lowest amount of effort to produce. Ie trash. You don't want that.

While even large corporations are trying to pick up new ideas (e.g. Ubisoft even did surveys years ago which settings would players like to see in AC and FC franchises), they are extremely risk-averse and stuck in their bubbles, entrepreneurial spirit is gone from modern corporate capitalism (if we can still call it capitalism). Themes like Warsaw uprising or the odyssey of Czechoslovak legions in WWI civil war Russia would never pass the usual croporate approval process. (Just like in movies, Hollywood could not make movie like Sisu) Thus it indeed falls to smaller groups with a passion for or a personal investment in certain topics to raise them - such teams have a vision of what their creation should be, regardless of what market surveys say would sell the best. And the idea of this game comes from such a team - indie in their nature, although THQ Nordic was wise enough to let them realize their vision.

I know there is a LARP with exactly that scenario in Europe. It's organized by a lovely team of Czech's called Rolling, and it's happening somewhere in the ass-end of Poland or the Czech Republic during winter. I was seriously tempted but ultimately never participated because it's quite a track they make you walk. I had the privilege to participate in other Larps they organize, and I can say that they are all grueling, emotional experiences with some heavy mindfucks. Awesome people all around and truly an experience.

Oh great find Splat, im love all that im seeing. Love how theres really just missions with boring jobs like hunting wolves, doing manual labor etc. But what really impresses me is being able to award medals, especially awarding medals to dead comrades. For now awarding medals to dead soldiers dont really do anything but waste the medal but I would really love to see like a small morale boost whenever you award medals to dead comrades.

I lost a soldier during the raid on the Red Army Camp and I gave her a post-mortem medal for it, I didn't care what the game said. But yes, a morale boost or something would be a good idea to make it more worthwhile.

sugesting to check wiki, because the game story is quite firmly based on true history. 1) czechoslowaks 2) not diplomatic mission. Army. Was assembled from POWs and traitors to the austro-hungarian crown, did assemble in Russia, because on the start of war, Russia was with the western powers against the axis, but afterwards in russia started bochewik revolution and Russia opted out from war. But we are speaking about 150 trains, in period of several years. Regarding the moding - It is not bad idea, but i would not stomach see history of my family (grand - grand father from my mothers side was something like sergeant in that core. And definetly did not battle zombies. That is like add zombies into RTS with Napoleonic wars...

there is a YT history documentory channel that did a story about an American unit (this year). they were there to support the Red Army, in the same way as the Japanese were there to support the White army, but niether were to interfere with either army - they were there for a year or 2, European didnt know about them, survivors medels behind closed doors

It's the tale of the Czech legion throughout the later years of WWI. They were soldiers of The Austro-Hungarian Empire.they were captured on the eastern front meant to join the allies. Once the Bolshevik revolution happened they were on their own.They were bad ass enough that not only did they survive the 1000 mile train journey but got retransported in time to support thier country.This is really simplified.

I've never heard about Czechoslovak Legion before, but there is a famous book called "Beasts, Men and Gods" written by polish traveler Ferdynand Ossendowski who has similar story about escaping from Revolutionary Russia trough Siberia and Mongolia to China. It's pretty solid advenenture book if someone is into this kind of stuff. (It also features a german baron fighting bolsheviks who is worshiped by Mongols as god.)

He demanded worship, the Mongols and the Reds threw him off. When they repulsed the Chinese advance into Mongolia, and then showed how completely repulsed they were and how they were defeated near Irkutsk, the Red Mongols saw weakness and solved the crazy problem.

@@fus132 If you want something interesting from the whites - Mamontov's raid, a very soft cosplay of the Crimean Tatars' raid in the 20th century during the civil war. They didn’t even turn everyone into slavery and didn’t burn everything, and most importantly they just fought well, but only the locals were forced to completely and completely support the Reds - against such Cossack robbers. But they distracted the Red Army from the eastern front and undermined the rear, many of them looted a lot.

The resource management in this game is broken my soldiers kept dying while im full on resources also in chapter 2 at the end mission town there is no doctor like ... lol eitherway i did enjoy the game for what it had to offer for 4 hours i believe it has potential but as for now is unpolished

Czech diplomats trying to get to Vladivostok... to catch a boat home? Someone needs to open a map, find Czechoslovakia(where it was) and Vladivostok :) Lets say its not the most optimal way to get home. But I guess it depends on a starting point :)

Still, even if they started closer to home than Vladivostok, WWI-era Russia had (and still has) it's population centers mostly in the west, and it would probably be harder to get out that way. To use Splattercats Zombie apocalypse association; move away from the horde of zombies, and find a way around. :D

It wasn't Czech diplomats trying to get home. It was soldiers of a foreign country, forming essentially a foreign legion in Russia(on the side of Tzarist Russia), that got caught there when it imploded. They got orders from all sorts of sources about routes they couldn't take because of diplomacy and war going on about. They had several options that were geographically closer, but with a much lower chance of survival. There are now quite a few videos documenting how it went down.

Western way was blocked by remains of Austro-Hungarian army and other enemies, they just decided that to go east and then use ship will be more safe, but then stupid bolshevik revolution started happening. Some of them actually went even thru USA and then used another ships to get back to Europe, yes, it was that complicated to get back home. 😀
