Contact harvest was the first Halo book I've read(listened to at work on spotify) and I'm glad I did. A halo story without master chief is JUST as good as one about him
@falloutgamer3479 ай бұрын
Just read trough contact harvest late last year, the covenant sections were really cool since we usually dont have stories focusing on grunts. It was kinda sad when he found lighter than some torn apart by the drones. Atleast he went out trying to kill Tartarus, poor fella.

@@Volsung84 That he did, i wonder how things would have gone if Johnson was killed by Tartarus on Harvest
@Volsung849 ай бұрын
@@falloutgamer347 Definitely an interesting thing to think about, but there’s a good chance Chief may have died in Halo 3, after his fall, Johnson was the one who found him and pulled him out of his armor lock, without his crew there’s a chance the covenant would have found Chief and he’d be helpless. Of course, there’s going to be other groups, but I have to imagine it would have heavily impacted Chief in the games, not having a friend to be close with. We can also assume that because Johnson wasn’t there to initiate that first contact with the Arbiter, there’s a good chance things would have gone down much differently between humans and sanghelli, too.
@Woodyisasexybeast9 ай бұрын
@Volsung84 at the very least, chief would’ve likely killed arbiter. “Wait, Chief, arbiter is with us”.
@falloutgamer3479 ай бұрын
@@Volsung84 those are probably the biggest things that would have changed, if you have read trough silent storm there are also multiple times where Johnson gives chief valuable lessons about working with a squad. Such as not always being the first one in and trusting his teammates to do their jobs among others. He wouldnt have learned those things which could have gotten the chief killed at one point or another. He also wouldnt have been the advisor for operation: silent storm

I’ve read through part of Contact Harvest and definitely need to get around to reading the rest of the book. I really like how it delves into Johnson, shows the inner workings of the Covenant and how the species interact, and further developed Tartarus. I also like how the Chopper was originally meant as a peace offering before it was outfitted with weapons. I wish we’d get more stories like this. I recently listened through Eric Nyland’s Halo books and I liked how one of the Spartan 3’s came from Harvest on the transports used to escape. Too bad 343 never brought him back to write more books in the universe. Hopefully, whatever Joseph Staten’s working on will turn out well for him.

I sure am glad i found your video. I've been thinking the Grunts had more potential and would make great engineers for the Covenant rather than just be used as cannon fodder. Maybe the friendship between an Ungoy and a Huragok is where this possibility could begin to take form?

Had the covenant been more inclusive and respectful of their species needs, it never would’ve broken in the first place. In many ways, every single species that was apart of their group was wasted in some capacity, especially the Unggoy.

(No relation to the video. Just posting this here because I couldn’t think of a better place to put this) Have you ever played Jedi Fallen Order? A while ago I played it because the thing was on GamePass and had a blast. It’s the only Dark Souls type game I’ve played, and I doubt I’ll play others in the genre since I’m most cases they just aren’t my thing. Without spoiling anything I’ll say that one of my FAVORITE parts was the “fight” with Vader. It did an EXCELLENT job of making him feel truly dangerous! Apparently, the Zepho aliens were originally supposed to tie into Episode 9 when it went by the Colin Trevorrow “The Duel of the Fates” script (would’ve been a much better film than what we got), but after they brought back JJ Abrams the devs turned the Zepho into their own thing. I liked how that droid from Rogue One (one of the few Disney Star Wars things I actually really liked because it feels like Star Wars. I’ve heard The Mandalorian is good for the most part, and Andor is phenomenal. Heard mixed things about the Ahsoka show, which people have said is basically Rebels 2 electric boogaloo. I’ve been burnt out by the Sequel Trilogy so I haven’t really kept up with what’s been happening. I’m largely apathetic towards most new Star Wars content. If someone else likes it good for them. I just haven’t gotten back into it, and mostly just look towards the old eu/games. If a new trilogy had the Vong as the threat I’d return yesterday. Also, my favorite character in Rogue One was the robot) was made into an occasional mini boss you fight. From what I’ve heard the sequel is really fun and does a great job of building on what came before. Unfortunately, it was a complete dumpster fire at launch. I’m sure by now they’ve fixed those problems. I know some of the things in it like having a bunch of droids and other things from the Clone Wars were jingling keys, but that’s seemed to work on me. If it ever gets added to GamePass like the first, or gets a really good Steam sale I’ll get it. I hope they make a third game. What are some Star Wars games you’ve really liked? The classic Battlefronts are really good (the Classic Collection is only worth buying if you just play on console. On pc the originals combined cost less and take up far less data than the “remaster”. The system requirements are VERY low and the games run well on a laptop), and so was EA’s Battlefront 2 (most lootbox dumpster fire that is. There’s that AMAZING quote about “a sense of pride and accomplishment” about wasting like 100 hours to get Heroes that you could easily purchase through said lootboxes🤣. On a positive note there’s this thing called Kyber V2 that’s going to be a mod loader/custom server browser. That will extend the lifespan of the game far beyond what the vanilla game could ever provide. User generated content is the reason why Classic Doom and so many others games are still played). There’s also this really cool one called Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds that’s basically an Age of Empires clone (it literally runs on the same engine as AOE1/2) that’s pretty cool (haven’t played it yet). There’s a mod for it called Expanding Fronts that rebalances the game, adds new units/factions (adds stuff from the old eu/canon so both sides will be happy), fixes various issues and makes it work with modern operating systems, and other stuff like that. That mod is basically the definitive version of the game (kind of like how Ruby’s Rebalanced is the definitive version of CE, and MMod is the definitive version of Half-Life 2).

I really enjoyed Fallen Order but never got around to playing Survivor. It’s on game pass now though so I’ll get around to it sooner than later. I genuinely think the Vader sequence is one of the coolest moments in the entire series. I love how they made him literally unstoppable. I’ve played quite a few Star Wars games over the years and have kept up with all of the newer media. I’ve seen all the shows and movies, aside from The Bad Batch which I just haven’t caught up on. I don’t care what anyone says, both The Force Unleashed and its sequel are excellent games. I don’t give a damn if the protagonist is over powered. That game feels so good to play and I enjoyed the main characters arc. I think I might be one of like ten people that want him reintroduced into the canon. I played both the new Battlefronts and the old. My buddy and I bought the remastered collection when it came out but sadly, it’s easily the worst video game launch I’ve ever been apart of. Worse than MCC. Multiplayer is completely broken in every single way. I haven’t gone back to it since because the initial experience really soured it for me. The new battlefronts are a mixed bag. The first is just fine. I don’t have a lot of experience with it. The second though? They actually had something special but as soon as it started to get good, they just abandoned it. Still a fairly fun game in my opinion. The story mode is just awful though. If you ask me, it’s the worst written Star Wars story in the canon. Just bad. I’d like to give the Dark Forces remaster a whirl but I haven’t gotten around to that just yet. So many things to experience, so little time.
@shreksnow19186 ай бұрын
Yeah. That was definitely the right way to portray what the best case scenario would be for a normal Jedi going against Vader. Rogue One also did that right with the hallway scene where he’s cutting through all those Rebels with zero effort. I unfortunately wasn’t able to play Jedi Survivor since it says it’s incompatible on my Xbox, and my computer isn’t super good (use a Gaming laptop and Steam Deck for pc stuff). I should probably get around to watching Bad Batch since I liked the Clone Wars. Although, from what I’ve heard they brought Ventress back from the dead after she was definitely put to rest in one of the books (one thing I didn’t like about Disney Star Wars is how they keep bringing dead characters back to life, and haven’t been making things that normally kill characters like getting stabbed in the guy by a Lightsaber be nonlethal. I’m also not a fan of the fact they’re axed the old EU, while simultaneously cherry picking various aspects from it. There was a considerable range in quality in the old EU, and in terms of continuity it was a complete mess. But, there was plenty of variety with a wide array of different stories that were explored through different mediums. There’s a lot of potential with the new stuff that sadly isn’t being tapped into). I seriously need to get around to playing Force Unleashed since I bought 1/2 fairly recently. Something I find really interesting about it is how those games are from the time when you’d have radically different versions of a game that all had the same name. You had the Wii/PS2, 360/PS3, and DS versions. I miss those days, when though it was kind of a mess and you’d be locked out of content if you didn’t have a certain system. An interesting fact about the name Starkiller is that was originally Luke’s last name before they changed it to Skywalker because Starkiller sounded more like a villain’s name. It’s always cool whenever something that previously went unused has been reimplemented (Bungie did that a lot with Halo, just look at what Digsite uncovered from CE/2. Nintendo also did that a lot with things that were planned for various Zelda games. You should really check out that series if you haven’t). Thats really unfortunate. I’m really glad that I didn’t buy it since I already had the originals. I was also turned off by the amount of data the game takes up, and how it also broke a bunch of mods. From what I’ve heard they fixed various aspects of the Classic Collection, but the damage has already been done with the multiplayer (what justified the rerelease) being basically dead. Unfortunately, the originals don’t seem to go on sale anymore since they invalidate the new product. Thankfully, even at the combined full price of $20 they’re still cheaper and a much better deal than the Classic Collection. It’s such a shame that happened. Like a bunch of other people I was excited about it because if done right those could’ve been the definitive versions of the games, and if it was successful we might’ve seen them greenlight a bunch of other enhanced collections for other games. Something I find funny about the new Battlefronts is how the first game that was released before Sequel Trilogy shows a brief phase where Disney tried to actively distance themselves from the Prequels because of their bad reception from older fans (you can also see that with the Sequels where the visuals and aspects of the story. The first one was literally just A New Hope 2 electric boogaloo with some cool ideas/plot points that sadly got thrown away in the next one). Then once they realized the kids who grew up with those movies were now adults with money they shifted course (the Prequel/Cone Wars era is my favorite because that’s what I grew up with. But, I’m not going to pretend like the films were flawless. They’re definitely a mixed bag at best. There’s a lot of really good ideas. But, atrocious execution and a fair amount of bad ideas. They would’ve been so much better if George had less power and people who’d tell him no whenever he had a bad idea. He’s a brilliant visionary who needs someone else to shake his ideas into something coherent/good). Also, I remember being excited for EA BF2’s campaign since they advertised it as being from the Empire’s prospective after it fell. Then we only got a few missions before two of the characters switched to supporting the Rebels. It also had Operation Cinder where Palpatine had a plan to destroy the Empire and send the galaxy into chaos if he ever died (personally would’ve preferred it if the Empire was still around, just fractured into numerous warring factions like the old continuity. It’s also really funny in hindsight since in a botched attempt to fix the Sequels they brought Palpatine back where his plan was as incoherent as Halo 3 Truth’s plan). Too bad we can’t have modded campaign missions in the newer ones like you can for the originals. I’ve seen a wide array of really cool mods that could be repurposed to create a wide array of different custom missions. I’m still trying to decide if I want to go with Dark Forces remastered, or do the cheaper option to get the original and install the Force Engine. In a lot of cases I don’t mind having lesser visuals, but it’s a night and day difference seeing just how much better the new one looks, and said visuals are a natural extension of the original’s art style.
