BTS are considered independent artists. Their label is an independent label. They train to get better at their craft. But big hit wanted them to be themselves
@georgiana31124 ай бұрын
So the kpop industry is like this: they want a group of 7 people, they will organise auditions, or just find them somehow, Jungkook was in a show like X factor, and many companies wanted him but he chose Big Hit because he saw RM perform and thought he was amazing and wanted to work with him. Jin was just casted on the street and invited to audition because he looked so good (he is kind of the ideal korean beauty standard ). No one is forced, they get like maybe 20-30 people, they train them in singing/rapping/dancing and choose the best to form the group ( this is the over simplified version but you get the point). Also the industry is big and most groups don't make it. Also to become as big as BTS (by far the biggest astists from S Korea) and start with no money in a small company is unheard of, they are a fascinating phenomenon, and they are actually a case study in some american universities even because of their succes. Also, the succes of BTS in my oppinion is more than their amazing talent, individual and as a group. The values they promote, the relationship between them and with their fans, the respect and appreciation they show to their fans and the fact they are really great people (we've seen so much of their life that we KNOW what kind of people they are, impossible to pretend all the time for over 10 years, plus what other artists say about them just confirms how kind and amazing they are in person)- all that and more combined makes them the phenomenon they are. Also, I was just intrigued about them , that's how I started watching stuff about them, I doubted I will like them as a woman over 30, but what they stand for, the lyrics, music and all made me a fan. You will see that their fandom is very diverse in every way possible. Can't wait to rewatch stuff with you guys. I hope you enjoy the jurney.🙂

I was there in that audience singing it was the second night. 60, 000 people singing to BTS people of all ages, gender, race, I was next to an elderly lady of 80years old who had driven all the way from Spain and then taken her car I can't remember is she put it on the under the Channel tube (sea) train or if she took her car on the cross channel Ferry from France to the UK. She was afraid of flying and was afraid she would get another chance to see BTS. Bless her she was so brave she did it on her own having never left Spain before and had to drive through her own country and France then drive on the other side of the road here in the UK. Stay in a hotel for 2 nights then drive all the way home again.

BTS have been doing lives since 2011/12... When they debuted JK was 15 but he joined Bighit when he was 13. Thankyou for reacting to Taylor's work - she stopped at the end of 'Chapter 1' and is in the process of organising Chapter 2 which will include their solo works and also post enlistment. To better understand why Army are so protective, there is a video by Rosan (xCeleste) BTS Hardships.... it will explain how hard they worked and what BTS and Army still have to contend with every day..... The difference between the big 3 agencies and Bighit is that BTS really did have a lot of creative freedom ... the other agency groups not even close.... they didn't all have the luxury of writing their own material like BTS... which is another reason why those underground rappers gave them a hard time during the interview looked down on them... even though most of them had worked/battles with RM and Yoongi prior to them joining Bighit. The rapline were adamant that they could incorporate traditional hip hop into the groups music even as 'idols'... and they have.

The person making fun of RM and Suga was another hip hop artist not a journalist, but it was the fuel that lead to some great songs as a response. In one of the Cypher songs Suga tells him to go back to Hawaii. 😂. And the dude ended up in prison and RM and Suga are rich and famous.

In Asia, the entertainment industries operate just like our sports industries. When talent or potential is spotted, a person will be recruited and begin training at a young age, just like child athletes do here. There are training and mentoring frameworks that exist for acting, singing, and dancing as well as tennis, baseball, soccer, etc. It's not really that strange when you understand that early training exists here too for talented kids. Just not as much for the music world. But even we had that in the past. Most of the legendary acts we all look up to started in manufactured "boy" and "girl" groups: Diana Ross, MJ, Paul McCartney, Beyoncé, Harry Styles, etc.

A few people have been leaving overtly positive comments about the idol industry so here's an insight from somebody who has been listening to Korean music for the past 22 years: There are three major entertainment corporations not unlike Universal, Sony, Disney, etc. They have toes in most industries but are most known for entertainment. These hold auditions, kids apply. Idol training is usually excrutiating and it involves odd dieting practices, brutal training hours, cut-throat evaluations. Now, this is horrible and often inhumane but not unique to South Korea as we have all heard horror stories from and of child singers, dancers, actors, etc. For some reason adults think that torturing kids equals training them, but what do I know, I'm not a greedy producer/CEO. After training, some debut and the cruel treatment continues which K-pop fans then use to create pity around "their faves" - "aww, they worked so hard 😢" If the idol can earn substantial money for the corporation, they might get a say in their discography and the clothes they're wearing but most are contractually obligated to perform a type of person on camera. This is the norm. BTS and their agency, Bighit did NOT follow this norm. Bighit's CEO pretty much scouted very studious and workaholic kids from the get go instead of forcing them into child labor. He didn't have a proper training system in place, the company at some point nearly sent the boys home to their parents cuz they couldn't afford to pay the dorm they rented (2 rooms, one for seven boys and one for their manager). They were broke but passionate about music. The CEO let the boys write & compose, allowed them a say in the direction of albums. This approach allowed BTS to make genuine music for their peers which matured with them. The reason BTS become successful is their authenticity, something that cannot be recreated by corporations; it was born out of the love for the craft by a dirt poor agency and some talented boys who wanted to tell stories through music. Idol music is inauthentic by design. The idols perform stage personas and self-production is merely a sales gimmick implemented after BTS made it popular to write & compose your own music. It's music for teenagers even in South Korea, whereas BTS concerts are attended mostly by adults. In very short terms, there's Korean indie music which the public prefers, idol music for teenagers and kids and BTS for all ages. Their poverty, their diligence, their talent, their ethics, their "little engine that could" story have all contributed to their fame. As a fan with that 22 years behind my back, I usually explain them so: they're a new mutation for K-pop, something that is still the idol industry but a much better, superior version. Sugar and spice and everything nice might create something enjoyable but only the chemical X can make the Powerpuff Girls - BTS have that chemical X, the idol industry doesn't. Basically, that's K-pop in a nutshell. Korean indie music is great and some idol music is alright. BTS take the talent and self-made aspects of indie artistry and combine it with the superficial aspects of idols (choreography, clothes, make up) to create something uniquely awesome.

To explain the 'idol' thing, you're right it's basically a pop star, but more than that it's being part of the kpop idol system, which is known for stars being very controlled and manufactured. A lot of Koreans don't take idols seriously as 'real' musicians. Kpop idols tend to get scouted young and get training to improve their skills (not necessarily a bad thing) but they're also often completely controlled, required to have a perfect 'clean' image, no dating, drinking, swearing etc. They just do what they're told and sing music that was made for them. Some even get trapped in contracts that put them in debt to their label. BTS was always different from the kpop standard though. Since the beginning they made it clear they were writing their own music about subjects they cared about, and they were lucky to have a label that gave them a good contract with freedom and profit shares. This allowed them to make authentic music that really connected with people, which is how their fandom grew and grew. BTS weren't originally going to be kpop idols. They started back in 2010 with RM, Suga, j-hope, and some other rappers as a hip hop group, but after a year the CEO advised them "if you want a chance at becoming really famous and reaching the world stage, kpop is the only way that might be possible." When they switched directions the other rappers left and those 3 were the ones who chose to stay on this new path, which got them a lot of backlash from the hip hop community for 'selling out'. The 4 singers joined after that, and BTS officially became the 'kpop' group we know today. However years later we can see they became some of the biggest artists in the world, making great music, selling out stadium tours, the only Korean artists to ever break through at that level, so I guess they saw a bigger vision and were proved right!

America used to train and develop artists too, it was called artist development. Motown is a good example . They had press, etiquette, vocal, movement lessons artistes have to undergo. These days companies don't want to spend much and just want ready made people they can adapt to milk trends and then discard and move on to the next cash cow.

Idk what gave you the idea that kids are forced to be idols. Kids only audition if they want to be part of the entertainment industry and have their parents permission. Then companies only take people with actual talent. But if you're picked and put in an actual group your set for life in the entertainment industry. After your group activities you can be an actor, song writer, director. Whatever interests you

This is an overstatement of reality, to be honest. Most people are put into groups that fail, and they end up going back home and picking up "normal/real lives" like the rest of us. The statistic I saw is that something like 1000 groups debut per year in Korea, and only a few last more than a year or so.

The easiest way for Westerners to understand the whole idol trainee/creating a group-system is to imagine how sport clubs work here, like for example football/soccer teams. They have a whole bunch of kids who want to play soccer so they join a club or the club recruits them if they see a talent. The coach is working with them, they train and slowly the coach chooses the best of them to make up the team. That's exactly what's happening over there with the trainees. They train hard in different things like dancing, singing, etc and slowly the company is picking out the best ones to make up a group.

You mentioned Born Sinner. Three weeks after that song dropped, BTS were so moved by it that they wrote a tribute cover song called "Born Singer". They even added it to their concert encore lineup. Think about it. They were busy promoting themselves, at the very start of their career. But they took the time and made a place in their setlist for a tribute to J-Cole. Respect. That song was a free Soundcloud single for 9 years until J-Cole granted them rights so it could go on their anthology album "Proof". If you want to react to it, search for the "Proof Live" video. It's 3 songs including Born Singer plus some group discussions. You'll love it!

America used to train their talent too. But then companies didn't want to spend the money anymore. That's why now, unless you're a rapper, only people whose family is well off ever become singers. Because they're the only ones who can afford lessons.

Helpful hint for the guide: Not sure if you know.... Korean people counted age differently to others... Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been.... In most older videos, including this guide, they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust. The members were only 13-18 years old when they joined BTS and 15-20 yo when they debuted. In Korea when you are born you are considered 1 year old. Then on lunar newyear every year you add another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. .... Year of birth - International age at Debut on 13June13 Jin 1992 - 20 yo Suga 1993- 20 yo Suga started with MIDI at 11 JHope 1994 - 19 yo RM 1994 - 18 yo RM started rapping at 11 and was well known in the underground scene at 13 and signed with BigHit at 16. Jimin 1995 - 17 yo V 1995 - 17 yo JK 1997 - 15 yo he signed with big hit at 13 Rule of thumb - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age. The Korean Government has recently (June28 last year) brought in international age as the standard in Korea, but all older videos/ interviews/ shows, will be referencing Korean age. 💜Have a great day

The numbers in this video are outdated. As of 2024, for example, they have way over 900 awards, V was the first to reach 18 million followers and now I believe J-Hope has reached that also. They have broken all kinds of records collectively as a group, and by themselves Jimin, Jk, RM, V, Jin, j-hope, and Suga individually. They are world renowned superstars, the numbers say it all. Not everyone will love BTS’s music, and that’s perfectly ok, but people cannot say they are not talented. They deserve much respect. Thank you for this video.

Love the new format where we can see the screen bigger and still see you guys clearly! Sorry for you on the left of the screen having to react by yourself but thank you for your attention, comments, and open mind. To the guy on the right. I hope everything is okay and you tended to whatever was needing your attention. I would like to say, a lot of life can and should be prioritized before reactions. But I would like to ask, that if something comes up, you let each other know so that you can put full attention to that thing and give a genuine reaction at a later time. Because it isn't enjoyable to watch someone be distracted through something you sincerely want to share with them. As for the video: RM is still the only one fluent in English. The others want to learn and keep learning through their experiences. I think they understand pretty well but can't speak it. Jungkook was only 13 when he joined as a trainee. They debuted in 2013 and he was only 15. I may have commented this on a previous reaction but they basically started as HipHop group then added vocals and choreo of the kpop world at a time when that wasn't done. As a result they were shunned by both HipHop and Kpop communities. And by shunned... I mean Kpop industry who had control of media outlets and airwaves, had active campaigns against them. It was actually only by accident they got to debut. An act that was supposed to go on couldn't so they had to use BTS as filler and as a result... BTS officially debuted! You mentioned Born Sinner by JCOLE. Shortly after debut BTS wrote a song on the beat of Cole's Born Sinner and in 2022 (just before they started their military/solo era) when JHOPE was headlining at Lollapalooza he met Cole for the first time and within the year we got their collab and permission for BTS to put Born Singer on their Anthology album. Check out that and HipHop Phile please. Born Singer 2015: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpS4gmaie5iShZosi=El0SoIppbOIikibA Born Singer 2022: kzbin.info/www/bejne/np2Wepxmbr9qeKcsi=z4K0259HwCDYSO0c HipHop Phile 2015: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5CWfHaIdr50fLMsi=LNTnNAOOVIVzteZg When you do BTS songs... first, they do have behind the scenes for every mv they've ever done, so you could watch an mv and then the behind the scenes (bangtan bomb) with it. Also, you might take note that what you just watched as solo artists, is the culmination of 11 years of learning and teamwork. They are only ever getting better. So until they return from the military, their past stuff is their beginnings. Granted... they were fire from the start imo, and they have almost a no skip discography imo. I do skip the 3 English songs pretty much every time. But the point being, you do have to remember they were in their teens and early twenties for a lot of it, which kind of makes it even more impressive too. idk. Will look forward to seeing what you guys think.

They trained to their own program they did what they wanted to do but if their was no improvement in their skills then they'd be let go of. They weren't forced to spend 3hours in the studio dancing they had set practice then it was up to them to decided how much work they wanted to put into it if they wanted to spend longer in the studio or not. Same with writing music the 3 Rappers were and still are the most prolific song writers but the 4 Vocalists are also have many songs to their name's in fact Jung Kook is the first of the 4 Vocalists to become a 'Full Member of the South Korean Copyright Association' it's not an easy thing to become a full member. However in other Kpop companies every thing was/ is very strict. BTS were given freedom to simply 'Get on with it' but BigHit expected them to increase and polish their skill set. How the did that was up to the members themselves. The company didn't stop them from having their own social media accounts and the company had no access to them either unlike other Kpop agencies who at the time wouldn't even allow their trainnies to use mobile phone's or have social media accounts because if they did the kpop company would not be able to control what their trainnies were saying or doing. So yeah BigHit went against all the 'unwritten' rules of the Kpop Industry and it's changed things within the Kpop Industry as now other Kpop Companies are giving their trainnees and artist more freedom more in line with the freedoms that BTS have always had. Other artists now with their company make their own training programs and if they want to learn something new they have the freedom to go learn something new they just have to fit it into their training timetable which they can adjust as they want to. BigHit/HYBE believe in artist development and artist having the freedom to do decide for themselves what they want to do and how long they want to are able to spend practicing different things. They also have mental health professionals they can talk to in confidence if they want to.

JK was actually 13 going on 14 when he joined BigHit as a trainee (June 2011). The age counting system used to be different in South Korea. When they mention ages, you have to deduct 1 or 2 years most of the time to get their International age (In SK you are 1 year old when you're born and at the start of every year - January 1st - you add a year, regardless when it's your birthday. It changed recently, but they still often use it) --> for instance: if you're born December 27, you're one year old (at birth), then 5 days later, January 1st, you add another year, so you're 2 years old in SK. So the child is actually 5 days old, but they say it's 2 year...

They are like a supergroup tho, right?? I do love and support all of them, JK is my bias and Jhope is my wrecker. They got those positions with their personalities, but ironically that is the order in which I love their music. JK makes my favorite and Jhope is 2nd. A cult is a group with a particular and often dangerously fanatical ideology that has certain characteristics." "Each cult has its own distinctive focus, but almost all of these groups share at least some elements in common, such as: *Authoritarian control* : Cultism hinges on encouraging maximum dependency. People in the cult must feel incapable of living an individual life outside the norms of the group. These beliefs often go hand in hand with a worshipful attitude toward the group’s authoritarian leader. *Extremist beliefs* : Cult members hold to very dogmatic and extreme beliefs. They also are unable to question these belief systems without fear of reprisal or punishment from the leader or other group members. *Isolation from society* : As soon as new members join a cult, other adherents work hard to isolate them from family members and friends. This helps fulfill the mind control aspirations of the leader. It also creates a hive mind of sorts between the new person and the other members. *Veneration of a single individual* : Charismatic leaders are often at the center of most cults. Consider the Manson family of the late 1960s. As their name suggests, they adopted the beliefs of their leader, Charles Manson, and fulfilled his requests. The same pattern repeats in almost all other cults, albeit to less violent ends in many cases. ..."

15:21 The thing is that wasn't even an interview that they were being roasted at. It was an invitational round table discussion they were invited to and some of the rappers who went already had a chip on their shoulder about BTS and decided to focus on them and use it as an opportunity to diss them publically. This was was literally 4 months after their debut - being called "girls" and sell-outs when at the same table were rappers that were themselves in discussions with labels and trying to get signed.🙄

Army is very organized. We have army groups on Facebook for teachers, doctors, scientists, academic help, psychological help, lawyers, nasa, etc. We have armies that monitor charts from around the world. We have armies that keep track of and organize charity donations and projects. I guess you could say we are a cult, but in the best possible way. We try to make the world a better place all while protecting BTS.

Guys, thanks for your reaction to BTS 💜 I love that you show the video on big screen and yourself little in the background. So we can see the video plus captions in a good way. Most of the reactors shows theirself in big and dominate the screen so that the video is very small. So, thanks for that 💜 Thanks for being so interested and impressed with our 7 guys 💜 They are incredibly talented, kindly hearted and absolutely respectful. Hope you will entrance the purple rabbit hole. I'm looking forward to it. Borahae 💜

You should watch The Rise of Bangtan (it has it's own KZbin channel). It follows the member pre-debut till 2018 (?). It's a 21-episode fan made series that is very well-made and very addictive. It shows some of their KZbin vlogs, their days as trainees, it gives more information about the K-pop Industry (also about the history), the recruiting, the audition process, some of their early songs and it shows some of their struggles and achievements...

They lived together for 8 years and all had a period struggling after they all moved to their own houses except perhaps V. They used laughter affection teasing to cope with multiple death threats. XCELESTE THE HARDSHIPS OF BTS, hate campaigns and endless schedules without time off, sometimes 16 hour stints of dance practice. Ages are 1 or 2 years younger than stated as they were still using korean age calculation in these clips. Eg JUngkook was 13 turning 14 when he left home.

One reactor here, I would watch--the guy on the left-hand side of the screen. The other guy checking his phone and not adding any commentary is keeping me from subscribing. If he doesn't like them, say so while giving honest critiques. Dont ignore the video and say they're cool, I get it, yeah, etc.

Thank you for the feedback. That is his concentration face, but we will take note of this.
@vcwloves98642 ай бұрын
@@clothtalk@clothtalk Got it. People do react differently. Maybe more verbal commentary if that's his usual concentration face? I teach communications in college--I'm an older ARMY. Some scholars believe that up to 90% of our communication skills come from non-verbal cues, A.K.A. facial expressions, body movement, eye contact, etc. If those are his normal facial expressions, consider a full-body reaction where your audience can see more of his nonverbal communication cues. This may help attract more viewers. If you don't mind, I'll check back with 'yall to see other reaction videos. Who knows, maybe you'll change my mind. Best of luck!
