I got a "new" Nintendo 3DS XL from someone at my school for only 5$ since it was in cosmetically bad condition and he just wanted to get rid of it. It was originally black, but after replacing the outside top shell, outside bottom shell, and battery cover with red ones. So I basically made my own "custom" "new" Nintendo 3DS XL that is red on the exterior and black on the interior. I also had to replace the micro SD card slot and speakers due to the micro SD card slot being dented down and the speakers being busted, but it wasn't difficult to do the repairs and I spent 30$ to buy the parts. So I basically bought it for just 35$ after I repaired it, which was less than a quarter than what those go for on eBay! Probably one of my best purchases ever and I'm very happy with it!

Those average prices are if you don’t care about the condition of the device, in my searches. If you want a pretty condition one it’ll be about $40-50 more than your listed prices, not including shipping.

I kept my eye on local second hand markets and found a new 3ds xl for 60$ (it was 80, but I managed to get 20 knocked off for the microphone not working and the battery being so bloated it blew out the back) I replaced the battery and I've never been so happy with a purchase. If you're patient there are some great deals out there!

Alright I'm gonna be straight here. Just buy the new 3ds xl. It's the cheapest, and arguably the best model. But if you want the smaller new 3ds , that's gotten a fair bit expensive. But that's also an option. Just none of the old models, they have risen to way too much in prices for what they're actually worth.

2ds is cheaper you can get it for abt 50-60 from japan marketplaces 70-90 on ebay. I would rather get a switch lite for the same price, it can emulate most 3ds games fine.

I just bought myself a regular 3ds (CFW) yesterday for only 2,200 pesos or 38.39 dollars (according to google). I got lucky because the seller is having a rush sale so most of their prices are below average. The unit itself is still presentable but the Dpad's paint is starting to chip. Overall, there's no major issues and I consider it a once in a lifetime offer. Good thing I saw it immediately because after a day, their rush sale was already sold

i think buying regular 3DS for under 50 USD is a high risk high reward move. I bought 3DS for 39 USD (it already includes shipment) and everything look perfect. No yellow screen, dpad/button are in great condition, all hardware are the original nintendo (no third party replacement), camera works great but it turns out the 3DS will suddenly turn off if i move it around too much. Thankfully the fix is simple, which is put small cardboard inside the back panel of 3DS (issues with battery being loose) and since then my 3DS work flawlessly. My brother on the other hand got 3DS for 44 USD and some parts are replaced using third party parts, the battery last way shorter, and the SD card suddenly broke. To anyone want to buy 3DS under 50 USD i recommend to buy one without SD card (usually a bit cheaper), use a brand new SD card and mod it (since almost all 3DS under 50 USD are japanese model, you can only use it if you change region through CFW)ris

Because in the prehistoric caveman era life was shorter and a lot harder to live I know times have changed but humans have been hunter gatherers for most of human history and that mentality is never going away. Ill be honest youtube is one of the reasons i hate the second hand market. The reason the prices are so high is because a gaggle of high subscriber youtubers started posting how the 3ds is a "hidden gem to get while its cheap", the typical clickbait crap they do for every genre of device and since then they've become a collector's item, ive seen people selling them for over 200 euro in horrible condition and im talking OG 3ds not even new. All my local stores have beat up models at nearly 300 euro, its a fucking joke and all because youtubers cant leave something niche and fun be niche and fun, they have to gouge the market so excited people who have no interest in the console flock to it and then let it rot on a shelf when they realise it isnt an end all be all system and needs a lot of modding to work well in 2024

Make sure to back up the SD card often if you weren’t provided a copy of the original sysNAND backup 🤞 I would make a copy of what’s already on it, then make additional separate backups every few months just to be on the safe side.
