@@lolabint3411 I wish it was an every day thing (not really, probably wouldn't help my mental health to do that much of nothing). Just a once a week thing on my day off. Every other day, I'm up and at work by 8:30, home by 5:30, long walks for my dog, homework for the rest of the night. I think I only sleep that long on a Saturday because I'm completely burnt out by the time it comes. Depression also helps with that. Lol

Hannah, I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you've made this video. I have been flirting with the idea of reusable pads for a few months now, and after this video, I went straight to TheFancyPads on etsy and bought 3 to try, with a wash bag, and will see how that goes. Hoping to purchase one a month of I like them, and slowly come off disposables all together. Although period knickers are more expensive, they seem so comfy for heavy days - think a pair of those will be my next purchase! Thanks for a great video, and encouraging us to make positive changes if we're able 🙌💜

*Helpful tip especially for menstrual cup users* when you rinse the cup, use *cold water* first for removing the blood to avoid staining of the cup. Same goes for removing blood from clothes. The reason for that is that *warm or hot water* activates/ speeds up the coagulation of the proteins in the blood which makes it much harder to remove stains without using bleach .

Here is my experience with all three reusable products. Menstrual Cup: I love the idea of the menstrual cup. I purchased the diva cup years ago, but due to my vulvodynia, I was unable to insert it without extreme pain. When I started to get the pain under control thanks to physical therapy, I tried the softest version of the Lena cup. I was able to insert it successfully, but especially since getting the copper coil, I get really awful cramps when using a cup. Unfortunately this product has not worked out for my body. Period Underwear: I have a set of period underwear from Thinx which I absolutely love. I found that they are not absorbent enough for me to wear all day but they work super well at night. When using pads, I ALWAYS had leaks at night but I haven't had a single one since using period underwear, and they are so comfy to sleep in. Cloth Pads: I bought pads from Luna Pads and Tree Hugger Pads, but I didn't really like either of them. Luna pads are not absorbent enough for me, and the tree hugger pads caused leaks because they don't have an exposed core. So... I decided to sew my own cloth pads. This is so much more affordable! I was able to buy everything I needed for a whole set of cloth pads for about 50 dollars. I am currently still working out the kinks, but it is such a fun craft to do, and I get to pick out the fabrics and design my own shapes that work for my body. Additionally, learning to sew cloth pads has given me the confidence to start sewing clothes for myself! I hope every person can find products that make them feel comfy and confident on their period!

I really like my MeLuna cup as well! I did get a bigger size after a few years since I've grown since getting the first one and the old one was a bit too small, and I'm really happy with the new one. I got the sports version and I like the firmer cup a lot. I love not having to use tampons anymore, a cup is so much nicer!
@tess6536
@tess6536 4 жыл бұрын
@@Rexelrat I had a similar experience; I had the classic for a couple of years and it was good but sometimes wouldn't unfold as it should so when I recently got a new one I could get a firmer one that was also a bit shorter because I also found out I have a low-sitting cervix . MeLuna absolutely must be the brand that has the most options, which makes sense because vaginas are really very varied! An added perk is the different colours and the microwaveable cleaning cups!

@@becca92900 I've almost entirely switched over to THINX for my whole period after saving up for enough pairs. It takes some getting used to (you have to figure out when the best time to change pairs for you is and you need to figure out a washing schedule that works for you) but I've yet to have a single leak and I've NEVER had that peace of mind. They sell them for heavy flow days now with a higher absorbency but I wear the normal flow ones with an organic tampon on heavy days and that works well too. I plan to buy the heavy duty ones soon to cut out plastic completely but going down to like 3 tampons a period has drastically reduced my period-related waste. Every bit counts. Highly recommend giving them a try! There are a few THINX influencers who have discount codes so I'd suggest trying to find one of them.
@sakura9400

@@becca92900 After a couple of hours (like less than 4) they felt a little uncomfortable, and I only wore them on my lightest day. So unless you're at home and can change them easily they weren't very useful. Having spare thinxx in your bag takes up a lot more room than pads or probably reusable pads. Of course everyone has different experiences, but the cup is so ideal for me so I'm going to stick with that but have kept the thinxx for those "I might start my period today?" days

The biggest menstrual cup pro for me was comfort/health! Tampons always gave me UTIs, pads always irritated my skin and couldn't hold up against leaking at night, but even my super fussy high maintenance vulva & vagina were very happy with a silicone cup. I know some people feel cups are too gross and messy (which is valid, it's super individual), but for me they were amazingly clean feeling compared to the awful awful feeling of pads. Such a relief to me to know that when I have periods again, menstrual cups will be there waiting for me.

I've been using reusable cloth pads for more than a year now and I love them so much! I have never been able to get on well with tampons and I tried to use the menstrual cup so many times but had the same problems, so then I decided to try out some cloth pads and I honestly never want to go back! They feel so much nicer and softer on your body and I find they absorb wayyyyy beter than disposable pads 💜 Sometimes they do tend to move around a bit in your underwear so I usually just wear another pair to stop the pad from moving 😂 like some people do when they wear tights and that works great!

I had to use a disposable pad recently because my period started suddenly and for some reason I didn't have my little period purse in my bag. I was so shocked when I had to change the disposable one because it was so much sooner than I had gotten used to with the reusable ones. If I hadn't known before I started using them ( I sell them) I would have assumed my periods had gotten lighter but it was just that the reusable pads absorb more or that the disposable make you thank you need to constantly change, I don't know. Just as a note regarding the menstrual pads, the microfibre side (i.e the solid black and brown sides of the two Hannah shows) is generally the side that should be facing the body rather than facing the underwear. That is the absorbent side that would be collecting the period blood. The fancy pattern sides face the underwear usually. The way Hannah clipped the pads together/folded the pads after use was opposite of this.

I'm 16 so I got their smaller size and it was perfect and so easy to use, and I totally see what you meant by it feeling cleaner, it's why I hated getting my period because pads and tampons, what with old blood being so close to my skin and such, just made me feel so gross. Definitely do your research before buying a menstrual cup!! Look into different sizes, shapes, strengths, etc. A lot of people do not mesh with the Diva cup but that is by no means the only one out there.

It’s important to note that the menstrual cup is not an option to those who have IUDs! Apparently the suction of the cup can suck the IUD right out of you.

Naomi Rose May I ask if that was a painful experience or just an unfortunate one? Of course this isn’t to say I’m going to try, I’ve just always wondered what that really entails. Did it do any damage?

I barely felt the IUD come out, that didn’t hurt. But inserting a new IUD is very painful. (Which is done at the doctors office, can’t put it back in yourself)

I've worn my cloth pads on regular days, with heavy flow up to 8 hours. I have a very heavy flow the first couple days. Using the cup and cloth pads overnight or use overnight cloth pad is best for heavy flows.

I have been using my rubycup for a few years now (it's quite hard to keep track) :) and I am verry happy with it. Unfortunately I have still quite a collection at tampons at home, so I'd recommend using most of your supplies up, before you change your period product.

I'm seriously considering the reusable pads
@strawb2811

I no longer have periods (thanks implant!) But I did use reusable pads for a few years and they were great. I actually found the menstrual cup pretty uncomfortable to get in and out, likely just a personal issue, but the cup was still handy when I wanted complete security (such as when I knew I wouldn't be able to change my pad for a while). The pads are very comfortable and you can just chuck them in the wash. I did have to presoak them and I wash them separately from my other clothes otherwise they could pass on a slight smell. The only other downside was I tried a couple of different styles and I found some I didn't like as much but I couldn't exactly throw them out or give them away. The fabric designs can make your period feel a bit more fun. I have a rad 80s unicorn design that I loved wearing the same way I enjoy fun underwear. Also when I first got my implant I bled every day for a month so reusable pads were a total godsend.

important thing about these washable pads and undies: soak them in cold water for an hour max before you wash them! When blood is heated it starts to clot and will get kind of "baked" into the tissue instead of being washed out

Loved this video and have been consistently using a moon cup for a while now. Side note, I agree with your point about how the real difference that will be made to the environment should and needs to be through governments and large corporations. However, we have a responsibility too! Every day we are supporting these large cooperations by buying and promoting their products, it's all about supply and demand. I think people almost use the fact that personal impact can't make that much difference as an excuse to do nothing at all. I also accepts that it's impossible to be perfect, I just think some people reject all responsibility.

I don't need to change my cloth pads /nearly/ that often! I guess if you have a very heavy period, but on my regular days I usually change maybe 3 times in a 24 hr period? on light days it's more like 2 times per 24 hrs. they're much more comfortable to wear for a long time than disposable pads because they don't get all sweaty and gross

I'm a two-year reusable pad and thinx user, because I can't insert things - I still use disposibles when out and about on heavy days because it can be tricky to change them in public, but cutting down by about 2/3rds of a pack each period is pretty good! Didn't know I had to dispose of my underwear that soon though, mine have been in use for way too long apparently xD chucking them now!

some advice/thoughts: menstrual cups work fine as soon as you get the hang of inserting them correctly, might take a couple of periods to get there. therefore would recommend wearing them with period underwear. that being said, i‘d advice to always wear a menstrual cup or the like with menstrual underwear bc them panties don‘t work on heavy days. tried it (brand: thinx) and my panties were just bloody flooded lol would also recommend to have one panty for everyday of your period (so let‘s say your period lasts 4-5 days, have 4-5 panties. i don’t shower everyday bc i don’t need/want to so i usually wouldn’t change panties but it’s not very comfortable with period blood down there 😅). haven’t tried the reusable pads, would love to tho!

A reusable pad lasts me a night easily, they're really more absorbents than a disposable pad. There are reusable pads specifically for the night also. I used to enjoy the cup, but I came to enjoy more periods underwear, because I was lazy to sterilize and put the cup inside, whereas the underwear I can just put it on the morning like any underwear, it almost feels like I don't have my period ^^
