Gary plays simple riffs with feelings like no body else I’ve never known. He makes you feel it too. To me that’s what music is all about. Make the person hearing you feel what you feel.

Couldn't agree more!! Gary Is a one of a kind with a sound all his own. Iv seen so many try to imitate his sound from string bends to slide and they just can't quite figure out what he's doing lol so thankful he's still with us. Iv been fortunate enough to meet him at a few meet n greets and he is such a humble man when it comes to his fans and of course fans of the band. He spoke to each one of us just as if he knew us for years. I hope and pray gary is with us for many many more years to come. #GaryRossingtonForever #SkynyrdNation

Here it is 2023 and Gary Rossington is no longer with us. With his passing in March of this year the band is still going with someone else taking his place. Now all of the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd are in Rock and Roll Heaven. So if you will could you please play it pretty one more time for all of us to hear you from the Heavens above. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This is cool. Fan since '73, hearing Simple Man via KSAN. Saw them for Second Helping at Winterland between The CDB and MTB. Stole the show. Also, Day On The Green in '77 with Peter Frampton headlining. These were all great. All rock stars have 'style' and Gary was no exception. man, The Peavey Mace,,,,had a colored knob type from like '80 i bought used and used it in a band. Afterwards, i had the tone circuit modded for more 'bite' on the lead channel and added a set of PyleDriver 12's (first used one in an EXT cab). Derek Trucks was a fan. Wife complained about this big amp sitting around (she basically bought it) so it got traded for something smaller. Maybe 6 6L6's need more than a quiet bedroom level to work,,,,it would fade out then blast when the master vol was touched. I miss it. This was '85. man, to this day, she denies this. Oh well....

@@SandraPokorneyCmonDude Thank you for the reply and kind comment. Another bit i recall was i believe the band was working up Nuthin' Fancy when a cleaning lady knocked Bernice (Gary's '59 Les Paul) off its stand, breaking the headstock clean off ! Can't recall if it was a band member or crew seeing Gary walking around in tears, freaking out...."It's dead !!What am I gonna do????" A worker had some wood glue and fixed it !!! I have a Cort Arrow V type from circa '83 i bought when i was broke for $150 in '96. It fell on it's face to a hard wood floor, splintering the back of the head stock. This was '00. Fixed and still plays great ! btw,,,,last time out in '05, we played Simple Man (co guit) and 3 steps (me). Good times :)

I read the reason Skynyrd used the Peavey Mace was because it was so much louder than the Marshall's and other amps they experimented with and wanted the louder more powerful Maces n Dueces. I have owned a couple of Peavey Classics and was lucky enough to buy a Peavey Roadmaster which was a 200 watt 3 channel amp with two 4x12" cabinets. They weren't in production very long n unfortunately I traded it for a new 50 watt Marshall with a 4x12" speaker cabinet. Ed King had a Roadmaster that he got from Hartley Peavey when it was in the experimental phase. Seen them 3times and was at the show the first time Steve Gaines played with them in Kansas City. I remember he played slide on T for Texas and don't recall the other song be he played 2 songs. You could tell he was really something special. It was circa 1976. I'm lucky I remember anything that long ago but they had such an impact on me how could I forget. I always wanted a Mace but never got one.

@kathyrais5742 жыл бұрын
Gary was "Prince Charming" referred to have a fight with an oak tree but it was really abt all of them, they all had car & motorcycle crashes except RVZ because he didn't drive under the influence. Gary & Allen both had car accident over labor day wknd 76, Gary was hurt worse out of the . Ronnie had bad feeling things would not end well for them if they continued on same path. Could have been second sight his mom & dad both said he had but also Judy was pregnant & he wanted to get healthier. He took up swimming & lifting weights & that's why he brought in Gene Odom because he didn't drink or do drugs so he was brought in as bodyguard but really to be in charge of disposing of all the hard liquor & tey to keep the guys off the drugs. They had been doin quite well. Having juice & soda on the plane instead of booze but everytime Gene threw out a bottle , Dean Kilpatrick had some stash he would break out but overall they were doing better. Ironically I think Ronnie's alcoholism was the worst demon the band had. Yeah the guys needed to cut back but RVZ alcohol consumption brought out a person no one cared for & was afraid of. Hoe ironic that they were trying to do better & then be in a plane that runs out of gas! Still a terrible tragedy!

Father rossington !!!..............lynyrd skynyrd would not have sounded right without gary .....ed , steve and allen could be replaced even though the post crash skynyrd has not had a guitarist that could play the ed king and steve gaines parts correctly and thats a oxymoron because steve didnt play ed's parts right and ed didnt play steve's parts right even though he got real close , but none of them sounded like gary , that moaning , lonesome , gutsy , knife edge galloping horse at times.......its been said gary was the weakest of the guitar players in that band , i say bullshit because go back and listen to the breeze or workin for mca real close....or tuesdays gone or you got that right , or edge of forever and find me one person in the world that can replace gary on those songs and many others ......... you wont , you cant...............the guy they got replacing him now can play the notes but cant get the tone.....the tone comes from garys fingers.....id give anything in the world to talk for 5 minutes with gary and his wife , Mrs dale rossington God bless both of them and thanks to the lynyrd skynyrd band !!
