Paramount was pretty adamant that he keep it, despite the fact that Mission: Impossible - Fallout's filming schedule would be delayed by at least a few months because Cruise busted his ankle during a stunt. So adamant, they put it in his contract for the film. WB even offered to put the 'stache back in during post but Paramount refused.

"They" didn't spend millions of dollars on those effects, Marvin. The studio doesn't own the equipment used for that effect. They spent a couple of hundred thousand dollars to have an effects house (or two) do the work. Even still, the computers, software and artists (not editors) will only cost an effects house half-a-million dollars in any given year, AND, they will work on a dozen other projects as well. I know this because I am one of those artists that do this kind of work. BTW - an "EDITOR" edits clips that are already created. A person who creates CGI, or manipulates scenes is referred to as an artist. FYI.

Apparently Paramount didn't want a fake moustache and they were probably mad about Henry Cavill not being done with Justice League when he signed up for Mission Impossible. Oh, and something in the contract told him not to shave until Mission Impossible 6 is finished. But I agree that they probably should have gave him a fake moustache in Mission Impossible 6 because the CGI really ruined Superman image in Justice League and MI6 is going to be released much later and would have more time.

The people who do this show are obviously incompetent and stupid. The $25m is the the cost of the entire reshoots that Joss Whedon did, not solely the cost for the CGI artists to scrub out Cavill's mustache. I found this out within 2 minutes of doing internet research, yet these fuckups can't seem to grasp the difference between a budget for an entire set of reshoots from the sole cost of doing CGI on a handful of scenes.

Julius Jones 1) Who said anything about Marvel? The Dark Knight trilogy is, in my opinion, the best superhero trilogy ever made. I loved Wonder Woman and thoroughly enjoyed Man of Steel the first time (not so much the second time). But this, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad were really bad films in my opinion. Doesn’t automatically make me a Marvel fanboy, you imbecile. 2) If you didn’t see anything wrong with his face either you’ve never seen an actual human face or you need new eyes. Also, let’s not forget that this film had a 300 million dollar budget. 3) “Just fucking enjoy it”. What kind of idiotic logic is that? You can’t force people to enjoy something. If it’s good, they will. If it’s bad, they won’t. In this case, it was bad and thus most people didn’t enjoy it. Same for BvS and Suicide Squad. 4) My comment is one of the most liked comments in this comment section so clearly a lot of people agree and share my sentiments. 5) If you liked the movie, why do you have to care what other people think about it. YOU liked it. That’s all that should matter. I love The Lost World: Jurassic Park but most people don’t. Should that deter me from liking it? Of course not. Am I going to go and rant like an idiot every time someone says they don’t like it? Of course not. Grow up pal P.S. I’m not your fucking “nigga”

They didn't spend millions just to remove a mustache, they spent millions to make the whole movie. The editors probably only spent a couple days removing the mustache, making a couple hundred dollars themselves. Of course someone can do a better job, but if they hired editors for simply 1 task per editor, the budget would be in the billions. Whoever they hired to remove the mustache was most likely hired to do hundreds of other edits too, edits that would probably take years for your $500 pc to render. I've made a 10 minute cinematic scene that I would consider movie production quality on my $800 stock PC, and it took 140 hours to render.
@TheRandomestRedHead
@TheRandomestRedHead 6 жыл бұрын
The point is, editors on the payroll for a $300 million dollar movie should do a much better job than this shit. They should be top of the line, and if not, a producer or someone should've picked up on this and made them fix it or hired someone else who could do a better job. At a budget that high, quality control should be better.
@TheRandomestRedHead
@TheRandomestRedHead 6 жыл бұрын
Black Salami no I’m not saying what he said. I’m saying quality control should be higher when the budget is that ridiculously high. Where the fuck did the budget even go if they can’t afford decent editors? And what does my ability to grow a moustache or make a movie have to do with any of this. For the record though, I’ve seen movies made for ten thousand dollars that looked better than Justice League. The movie’s a train wreck, you don’t have to “nitpick” to know that.
@rashiderocqueofficial9840
@rashiderocqueofficial9840 6 жыл бұрын
Randomest... That is the dumbest comment I've ever heard... fam even with a budget that high and the editors are especially professional... But that "insanely high budget" is for the entire movie not just those few scenes. As the other guy say the editors arent each only working on one piece they each have multiple edits to do themselves and slip ups are bound to happen. If you so nit picky about it, how about you go on their job and do exactly what they did for every part they had to edit.
@rashiderocqueofficial9840

@TheRandomestRedHead
@TheRandomestRedHead 6 жыл бұрын
Rashide Rocque mate I don’t know what to tell you you’re just flat out wrong. For starters I never claimed that $300 million was spent on the editors, all I’m saying is that a movie with such a high budget should, on a technical level, look good. This movie does not, it looks shit and the piss poor job they did on the moustache is a paramount example of that. And I’m not even being “nitpicky,” everyone noticed it, it looks terrible. Effects that bad should not be excused when the budget is so high, it shows an overall incompetence and lack of coordination. On any competent movie with that kind of budget, if an editor sent that in they would be told “go back and fix it” by the director, a producer or executive producer. You’re right in that they don’t just focus on individual parts of the movie. But if one part of the movie is edited poorly, they change it. That’s called quality control, and it’s something Justice League is sorely lacking because it’s a soulless and incompetently made movie.

People are over reacting to the whole mustache ordeal. Who knows how much time the studio actually had to digitally alter Superman's face. And let's face the fact that there are many more scenes that had a higher priority to make look realistic (such as scenes with superman flying). The guy doing a better job than Warner bros had a lot of time to focus entirely on still images of Henry Cavill's face, and not trying to meet a deadline on a 2 hour film with thousands and thousands of images to alter with computer effects. I agree that Warner bros could have done a better job, but it bothers me how many people seem not understanding of how difficult films are to complete on time and sometimes incomplete visual effects are a result of this.

Ok so, let's clarify a few things. The cost of the reshoots are rumored to be around $25 million. Whedon himself claims these shoots only comprise about 15 to 20 percent of different material. People familiar with the project claim it's actually much more. In any case, we're talking about $25 million for the reshoots. A small aspect of this is that Cavill had a mustache that needed to be removed. This does not cost $25 million... never in any VFX company's wildest dreams would that be true and you can be pretty certain they wish it were so. A much bigger concern is that Cyborg is mostly CG, Steppenwolf is a CG character, the crowds of parademons are CG, the sky is CG, the destruction is CG, the etc... for all I know, Batman's cape is CG. It costs money to do all that and from what I could find from various information that's out there the reshoots weren't just simple closeups or non-effects related shots. There was an overhaul. The deepfakes mustache removal is, without a doubt, very amusing and one of the things that I really love about the internet, but let's get back to reality. Superman's mustache didn't cost $25 mil and it wouldn't be a simple thing to do on a $500 computer. lol Nevertheless, seeing what deepfakes has produced is surprisingly impressive. Kudos to the people that developed it.

It wouldn’t have been such an issue if it wasn’t for WB rushing their editors to get the movie out early. Justice League wasn’t supposed to come out the November that it did. Also, Other companies have made completely cgi films where cost was the only issue for them while still being good (well since most companies are rich this isn’t an issue). Patience is key.

yes, batman's cape is CG and to be honest i doubt they spend much money on the removal. probably some of the artist spend a day, two tops to remove that. so the cost was just that artist payment + cost for software and equipment they already owned.

I think you're giving the CGI in Rogue One too much credit. To the keen eye, there was clearly something off about Tarkin and young Princess Leia. The way the faces were moving and how the skin was stretching was just not 100% natural. Granted CGI has come a long way and what we saw was perhaps the most convincing work to date, but Hollywood is still not all the way there yet.

I had no idea before I saw it, but I could tell almost immediately. Skin is too course in real life to capture realistically with cg, it's always too smooth. However, he was still quite obvious to the discerning eye.

Super Seviper You're pulling excuses out of your ass with every step of this. He should've just shaved, and if people got upset then they gotta realize. I mean fuck, it's facial hair not his actual hair. You can just throw some fake beard make up on his lip and it'll be more realistic than CGI and in a week it'll be back. You know why they should've just said "screw it" and redid the shot? When they realize they can't pull off the CGI. And if he can't commit to the character and the schedule is a pain in the ass, then go get someone else. "But it'll ruin the continuity!" You mean to tell me he's been playing someone for awhile and he's not down to fight over just trimming his own face? "Well, he had a contract" then wait on the movie and retune it while you're at it. The VFX team did whatever they could with a very tight schedule, huge work load, no time, rushed and incomplete assets, little budget and no paid extra hours. Cut them some slack, the money goes to the actors and producers, not to the VFX. I thought this was obvious.

CGI be damned. Any Batman vs. Superman film is doomed from the beginning. Batman us just some rich guy in a suit. Superman is a superhuman alien who can toss locomotives around, and leap tall buildings in a single bound. He could incinerate Batman with his heat vision.

Green kryptonite Or gold Kryptonite Or Red Kryptonite Or magic Or lack of sunlight Or red sun Or red light Or nuclear missile and superman is dead. And Batman can do pretty much all of them. Not to mention Batman has a HellBat suit which he can wear and take on Darkseid forget about Superman. Doesn't matter if it's not shown in movie but in comics he has one.

I agree completely, they simply made a poor choice on how to deal with his stash. But for those who don't know, shaving was not an option. At the time of the re-shoots he was shooting Mission Impossible. The studio agreed to let him go for a couple weeks for shooting new scenes. However, his look was not able to be physically altered as he was under contract from the other studio to have the stash because it was the look that they wanted and he signed on for. This does not forgive WB for there choice in how to deal with that, but it is what happened. Personally I would have preferred the stash and maybe add hair to even it out. Got np with a hairy superman over what we got instead.

Pulling off an effect at 1080p is much easier than Cinema 4k. There are also so many other variables in play, the lack of VFX budget and time available for those particular shots, the art directors, etc. VFX on comic hero movies have been never been stellar anyway.

How did he get the original footage?
@penitent2401
@penitent2401 6 жыл бұрын
the guy on the internet didn't removed the moustache oh the superman film itself, he showed example by removing moustache from some several seconds long TV clips of the actor as shown at beginning of this video. That took him several DAYS with his PC. an average PC can take hours to render just a minute of the movie without this effect he was using added on top, and it took him days just to remove a moustache for 30 seconds. the raw footage for the film is in 4k resolution with dozens layers of effects on it, with multiple cuts of each scenes and many scenes did not make it into the movie itself (deleted scenes). typically a movie would have hundred or thousands of hours of footage to be used in editing, not all of it gets the final effects rendered but I've heard about 10-20 hours with decent effects rendered for 1 hour of final film. so if this big budget movie have 50 hours of film fully rendered before the final round of cuts and edit, maybe 5hr of it requires moustache removal, an average computer would take about 3 years running 24/7 just to remove the moustache with the technology this guy used on his PC. And it is usual for them to require re-shoot some scenes during edits, that'd be impossible to do. also, the technology licensed for individual use can be alot different for commercial use, sometimes they don't have just a set price for their technology use but instead license it for a share of the movie's profit as well.
