I am American and I did gymnastics in my youth. Svetlana Khorkina has to be my favorite of all time. The height. The lines. IMO a unique body frame. She is so memorable and stunning. I don’t care that other folks call her snotty; she is gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️. Well done❣️

Thank you for this video. I really loved the performances of Khorkina, her artistic feminine elegance. I see many very ignorant comments here from people who obviously never competed at top level. Its easy to say ugly things about people you never met, nor understand their situation. Personally I prefer feminine artistic normal height women to super acrobatic 1,35 meter girls. And as much as I admire people such as Simona Biles for her acrobatics I quite regret this change in womens gymnastics. Women such as Svetlana Khorkina or Svetlana Boginskaya were just such a joy to watch.

I consider her a ballerina gymnast. Nastia was the last. She was elegant graceful. Now it is about power to do the most difficult skill no matter how sloppily done (wolf turns for instance).

I remember seeing her for the first time in Atlanta 96, I was only 13 and never forgot her face, delicate figure and artistry. And yes, Sydney was a disgrace, worst Olympics in the last 30 years. Full of inconsistencies, mistakes, cheating, removing medals from athletes unjustifiably and so on.

@carataroha4348 3 жыл бұрын
@@lahsouza3775 mainly due to how point system works these days. Today we have a combination of two scores which sums up to an overall one. One is execution, which is out of 10 and every time you get a deduction it decreases. The other score is difficulty. Because the more difficult a routine is, the higher start value someone gets. (It gives them a better chance winning. ) Thus, people are trying to do harder skills and forgetting the artistic portion.

At the height of her competitive career, many people thought her awkward approach to routines was designed to enable her to win. I watched her at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and thought - something is going to happen in the code of points soon. It has to change more not for her - but for other people's sake. In the Codes now, her signature moves are almost not listed. I think it is due to her moves being hard for shorter gymnasts mainly.

@@micaelrodrigues9928 I much prefer Khorkina to Simone. The Russians have the best gymnasts in the world. Period. Close behind the Russians are The Ukrainians, the Chinese and Romanians. Nadia Comanechi and Olga Korbut especially were esquisite also. The best ever gymnasts, my top 5, are = * Nastia Luikin * Olga Korbut * Nadia Comanechi * Svetlana Khorkina * Elena Murkina Gymnastics, as a sport, is a very personal experience even if you are only watching as a spectator. There is no right or wrong answer. Your top 5 will differ. Personally, I am longing for a Nastia Luikin type gymnast to emerge again. It saddens me that a lot of gymnasts in the present day have dropped artistry, feminity and grace and replaced with sheer power and strength. I don't like it.

She might have been a multi time world champion, but saying her "being Russian not American" was the reason she finished second is very unsporting. The mark of a real champion is being able to gracefully accept defeat. This is an example of the exact opposite of that
@HB-ey2dk
@HB-ey2dk 4 жыл бұрын
That seems how most Russian gymnasts see Americans too, because you always see that sort of attitude. It must be drilled into them in the gym from birth, Americans are over scored, blah blah blah. Na, they're just better on that competition day 🤷‍♀️ I wish they'd work on sportsmanship a little more.

@Gymnastics-me8hu
@Gymnastics-me8hu 3 жыл бұрын
@@nathanielhalls1893 She has been through the highs and lows in the sport of gymnastics. She has dreamed of becoming Russia's first Olympic All Around Champion since the Soviet break up but never will. She went through team failure in 1996 with the Russian's losing the gold to the American team that night coming into the team optionals in first from Compulsories but couldn't pull it off which wasn't her fault. Then she had team and individual disappointment in Sydney as well when Russia were the absolute favorites to win gold but had to count a fall from one of her teammates and with the vault controversy in the all around final as well which crushed her and was too late even when they offered her a second chance due to her feeling defeated after the fall which later affected her on bars. Never forget that she was the first gymnast before Simone Biles to win 3 World All Around Titles in history. She's a fighter and many people have given up hope on her as well with coaches not knowing how to train her and using good techniques for her as well with is very challenging for a very tall female gymnast. Boris Pilkin saved her career. If it wasn't for him to help create her own routines and skills that are capable of Olympic and World titles on almost all four events, we wouldn't even have known who she was. Yeah I understand how you people feel with her bad sportsmanship and not passing down good examples to younger generation gymnasts but how would you feel if you were training all your life for a goal that you have dreamed about and knew that on that very day you could've won the Olympic title and now forever can't ? Everyone knew that if she hit 4 for 4, she would've defeated everyone in those Olympic Games in Sydney during the all around. That was her peak. You also have to understand that not many gymnasts at 25 can even stay in top form shape without making their routines easier for their bodies to adapt to and her winning silver just shows that she has been through so much just to receive an Olympic All Around medal but was darn close to the gold. She never wanted to lose, she never liked failing, and she fights to the end. You can't teach that to any athlete and with her having the whole package she's a gymnastics legend!
