Someone should have told David to clutchless upshift. If you snap the throttle closed and move the shifter you can shift much faster and get back on the throttle quicker. Works with most motorcycle transmissions.

Correct me if I'm wrong but just lie a bike, preload the shifter and let off the gas and it'll go directly into next gear immediately issue free. I can clutchless shift my GSXR so fast it feels like a solid high five!

You should shift it like a bike .. just hold the shifter on upshift end release throttle very fast and it just jumps into nex gear..

Another guy did this with just a 1000 and a bunch of weight reduction. Got it down to like 1520lbs or something around there. It would be cool for someone to take a ZX14 and do a big bore+stroker build, cam it and port the head, and make 225-250whp with a 13.5k redline. *EDIT:* Damn, my guess was just about dead on, too. With a 63.5mm stroke, it'd still be safe to rev to 12-13.5k as a redline, and as such, should make peak power a little lower in the 10.8-12k range. That, combined with an 86mm bore, would result in a new displacement of 1475cc. It should make 125lb-ft of torque at the crank, which when combined simply with the peak power marks using the 5252rpm crossover and a flat torque curve would result in 258-287hp at the crank. A 14% drivetrain loss (higher than normal for a bike, but you ARE changing the direction of the torque at least once) brings those numbers down to 226-252 horsepower at the wheels. Y'know, now that I think about it, an even crazier build is in order. Turn it into a 2.2L straight 6. 339-378whp would be the number at the end of all that. All naturally aspirated, too... Holy crap, rpm really is a cheat code.

What’s crazy is when my bro raced sr1/custom side by side, in Lucas oil series they’d blow the r1 engines when landing because of weight of car and traction so they couldn’t floor it before landing for extra boost of power. Drive everyone nuts to have to land then floor it. Anyways just a interesting fact you may deal with being it’s so heavy

There is just something good about doubling the factory hp in a lightweight car. My only experience like this was a 91 honda hatch, drove it around with a badly smoking anemic 1.5, swapped in a b18a1, close ratio limited slip transmission, coilovers, and wheels.... And it was a completely different car. Not necessarily fast, but a seriously fun daily because of where i live in the Ozarks.

the gearing makes it sound so fast 🤣 I agree when you say gearing can change a car even without messing with the engine, my car has a version with a shorter final drive (it goes from 2.4 to a 3.2 , diesel engine , revs low thats why the ratios are so low) i swapped a 3.2 into my 2.4 for 400 bucks and oh boy is it a different car, totally worth it for a plug and play . could also plug and play a 4.1 into it and make it top out at 100mph 🤣

You should be able to upshift without the clutch in the upper gears if this is a motorcycle gearbox and clutch. Just get off the gas and push it to the next gear. First to second might be a little clunky
