Great video, I lived in Nantwich for 33 years, just a stones throw from the Black Lion. It used to have a lot more pubs, 36 infact from a one mile radius of the cenotaph, the Queen of Diamonds, Red Lion, The Rifleman, The Royal Oak …etc. Welsh Row has actually been trodden by Oliver Cromwell himself, Nantwich was a pivotal battle in our civil war and is renacted yearly by the sealed knot, last week in January. Where you were eating cake was once the grounds of Nantwich Castle. I miss my town now and then. It was really something in the 70/80/90 but lost a little charm with the incessant need for housing, greedy Southerners snapping up property and the link up with Crewe…. Yuk

What a great place to grow up! We can't wait to get back there. So fascinating to hear about Oliver Cromwell, we hadn't heard that piece of history before.

Lovely Video - Thanks for sharing. I was born in Nantwich, but left many years ago, and if you thought it was nice now - you should have seen it in the 1960s!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It must have been amazing to experience Nantwich in the 1960s. We'd love to hear more about what it was like back then. It's always fascinating to learn how places have changed over the years. Thanks again for sharing!

@@AndrewandMegan It was a lot smaller back then; many of the shops had been there since the 1920s and 1930s (run by the same people!) Very old-fashioned. (quaint) Much smaller population, and everybody knew everybody; you couldn’t walk through the town without many saying ‘hello’, because even if you didn’t know them personally (many you did) they would know you by ‘sight’ and speak. Most people who lived in Nantwich back then had been born there too, and we were called 'Dabbers'. Now, if you’ve only lived there a short time you’re considered a 'Dabber’, but you had to have been born there to be called a true Dabber back in those days. 🙂

It's so nice to see you enjoying these small country towns which rarely figure in the tourist itinerary. There's scarcely any town in Britain that cannot trace its roots back to the Domesday Book, if not to the Romans, and there's just as much to see and do without the crowds and expense of the tourist traps.

@@AndrewandMegan There are a whole raft of them not far away in the Peak District: Eyam, Hathersage, Buxton, Castleton, Bakewell and Matlock Bath. Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire is worth a look too, as are Skipton and Grassington. Halifax is an often-overlooked place as well, with some fine architecture, as is the city of Kingston upon Hull which has some superb museums and galleries. Have you got a lifetime to spare?

Glad you enjoyed our little market town, with many Tudor buildings and a lot of history, food festival in September, different restaurants and cuisines, Greek restaurant probably the best and Italian. Jazz festival during Easter. Halloween event in October. There’s also a Snugburrys in Chester, by the river. Boathouse restaurant which also have in Shrewsbury. Hickory’s Smokehouse American food, Brazilian steakhouse also in Chester Where you guys from?

Little hidden gems like Nantwich are the best! The touristy stuff is fun too, but can sometimes get overwhelming if too crowded. Loved this charming place! That canal looks like one that Kara and Nate shared on their youtube channel just a couple weeks ago, I wonder if they went through there :-) you guys should definitely try renting a narrowboat! Great vlog as always!! 🤗👍

Thank you for your absolutely wonderful video of my local town!. soooo very respectful and appreciative of the simplest but beautiful things. Its given me great heart and encouragement as regards the American people..they often get such bad rep- but a couple like yourselves really know how to embrace the totally different culture and are clearly very intelligent . Big respect Andrew for taking on the left hand driving culture...and even a roundabout! hahaaa! Would love to meet you and show you many other gems in the locality..if you are ever back please get in touch and I would love to be your guide for a few days!
