And I love how I can learn things from Donna Jordan, and a growing number of sewing experts. I like sewing blouses, aprons and hats and prairie sun bonnets too. Have fun Mary.

I have boxes and boxes of sewing feet. Collected from garage sales, thrift stores, and wherever I see a lonely box of them. I SO wish I knew what they were designed to do. Some are not even clear what machine they are made for. I just think of the sewers who bought them originally and all the things that have been made with them over the years. Thank you for shedding light on this little trick. 😊

Take a close look at those little notches on the side of the foot you set aside. They are exactly a quarter inch. When you are attaching a binding on your quilt, and you wish to stitch up to one quarter inch from the end before you flip up your binding and turn the corner, you go to the quarter inch mark ahead of the needle. Then, when you begin the new side, having laid down your binding corner, you need to start stitching a quarter inch in from the corner, use the quarter inch mark behind the needle. VOILA! All your measurements are right there on top! I love my Bernina not for the things they tell you about. It’s the things you find out for yourself! ❤️❤️❤️. I paid extra for a reason.

This is a swell foot, and you can get similar ones for other brands or generic. But if you're on a budget take a look at the feet you have for the features you want. Many feet have a hole for a cord. Various feet have a wide groove in the bottom to accommodate thick stitching. Many have placement lines and/or are transparent. You may not need another one.
@SusanSmith-hl3iv4 жыл бұрын
You always have such great tips and definitely inspire me to try new things or put a new twist on something I’ve done for years. Going through my box of presser feet now! Here’s a little tip for your viewers: Some sewing machines don’t come with a good storage unit for the feet. I buy giant plastic pill organizers, the kind with a section for each day of the week and with a locking mechanism that keeps each of the lids closed if I accidentally drop the container. I look for ones big enough to accommodate all my feet. I find these large pill organizers at pharmacies and also places like JoAnn’s (for small beads, etc.). I also have one from a craft store that has different options for the dividers inside. These work well for even large feet like my machine embroidery foot and buttonhole foot. I want each of my feet nestled in their own little space and not be all jammed up together. In the clear plastic lid of each space, I place a label that faces out indicating the name of the foot.
@nancy94784 жыл бұрын
I have one I dont use, thanks for the tip!
@judyepstein53454 жыл бұрын
@@nancy9478 the container store has all kinds of boxes. I have several “infinite” boxes where you can change the size of the compartments to fit your longer feet. Also, I have a foot with 9 holes in it so you could use 9 cords. I think it’s called a cording foot.
@lauramartin73004 жыл бұрын
@@judyepstein5345 yes. They have different cording feet with different amount of holes. Can use embroidery floss. Thin cordings ,depend on machine they have for ribbon too.. soo mant and so much fun, and use with your decorative stitches is alot of fun too.. Be sure to check, what stitches you can use with foot.. needs to have large opening, not just for straight stitch has just a circular hole...cause you can ruin your machine and break needle if doing any other stitch than a straight stitch with that foot. Dont ask how I know...lol happy stitching. ,
@lauramartin73004 жыл бұрын
When I taught class to beginners that just got machines,one of the things I told them,cause they all would say, I do t wa t to break anything or afraid to take it out of the box. Take a piece of white,or light color fabric , start with first stitch, sew about 2 inches,write on material the number of stitch adjust your stitch length and width and sew 2 more inches. Continue to do this for the whole dialed length and width is done. You'll be able to see how each stitch stitches out and you have something to refer too., then when you want to do any appliques, or anything with a decorative stitches, you can refer to it and see just how it looks and have more time and fun sewing. No time wasted.. enjoy stitching!!!.*,

Cool feature! I don't have a Bernini , just an old Janome, but it's good to know anyway. After reading all the comments of ladies so surprised to discover that trick on their feet, this reminds me of a few years back when a German guy pointed out the 2 holes that have always been on the end of a box of Syran Wrap and what cool feature the holes are used for. So many of us who have bought that wrap for many years couldn't believe that we had overlooked them time and time again. Would have saved us so much frustration using the wrap!
@theresadeupree4643 жыл бұрын
So what are the holes used for?? You tempt us with info but don’t include it!!
@singmysong11673 жыл бұрын
@@theresadeupree464 ...the holes punched in are to hold the roller in place as one pulls out the wrap, friend. Without this feature, I don't know about your experience but when I'd pull out the wrap, the roller would jump out too, lol.

If you have a Janome 4-thread serger, you can make tons of gorgeous ruffles in seconds with the standard serger presser foot! Here are the settings: Left & right needles: 9 Upper & lower loopers: 3 Stitch length: 4 Differential feed: 2.5 Test with a scrap of the same fabric you will be using with your project. For less gathers, turn tension disk dials for needles to a lower number (6, 7, or 8). Remember when finished to turn needles tension disk dials to 3 for standard serging!😊🧵💖
