A Hike to Kelly Butte Fire Lookout in Washington's Fall Series

We will be exploring Kelly Butte Lookout located in Mt Rainier Area Chinook Pass. Driving to Kelly Butte lookout takes about 2 hours. The drive is similar to driving towards Crystal Mountain ski resort, but you will follow along NFD 7030. Make sure you input the location to your GPS as there are not many signs that indicate where you should be heading.
Kelly Butte Fire Lookout is a simple, yet beautiful hike that should take the average hiker ~1 hour to get to the lookout location. The distance from the parking lot is about 1.7 miles with an elevation gain of ~1100ft.
You will need a Northwest Forest pass to park in the area. The parking for Kelly Butte trailhead is small. We arrived at around 12:15pm and there were some spots available, but the area fits ~10-15 cars (depending on how people are parking).
