This year I have spent the most time I have ever spent in a church in a single day. If I told my younger self I would be spending 13 hours in a church playing music, he would have laughed until he cried. Lo and behold, i did just that, i enjoyed every minute of it, made hundreds of people happy with the gift of music, and I am now impatiently looking forward to doing it again on Easter.

Merry Christmas y’all, very cool and deep conversation between these two. I started listening to Bishop Barron earlier this year when I saw his interview with Shia Lebouf, highly recommend that for people who’ve enjoyed movies he’s been in. My family is Catholic but only some actually practice it, the others are more of that Latino Catholic in culture and not in faith so much, me personally, I only came to Christ close to two years ago and I’ve grown so much. Even being a non denominational Christian, there’s so much knowledge and wisdom that can be found in well read catholic disciples like these two, and I’ve come to find that really, true wisdom comes from God and having a relationship with Him and reading His Word is the main way but not the only way to access that knowledge, it can be found in great conversations like this. God bless y’all and Merry Christmas again

Good discussion that went kinda off topic of the title. I wish they had actually talked about the historical roots of Christmas and it's traditions. We DO know roughly when Jesus was born. Luke tells us in a roundabout way. John the Baptist was conceived around the time of the course of Abijah - which is around Yom Kippur (see Luke on the Annunciation of John the Baptist). Mary conceived Christ 6 months later. Late September/Early October + 6 months = late March/Early April. Christ was born 9 months later, which brings us to Late December/Early January - in otherwords, right around when we're celebrating Christmas!

Hospitality may be one of the oldest examples of humanity at our best--when we welcome someone into our home to meet and break bread with fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and babies. The greatest compliment may be to come again. To wait for the guest's return. And is that not the ending of the Bible? To remind ourselves how extraordinary was God's visit to us and why we ought to welcome him back. It is also a call to Christ through the gift of the Bible to show how we trust him and the trinity and we miss him and yearn for his return.

However, I feel I have to convict his host here as speaking Latin IDs etc is fine, when overused, you lose us just enough to break a beautiful thread of insight that you wanting us to get. This is my only criticism. I hope this is helpful as us everyday people NEED to hear and get and be able to ponder what you both are offering. I’d love to see a conversation on baptism - many people are being persuaded to get baptized again. And again. And again. There is an epidemic of people getting baptized over and over. This week, I shared the gospel with a man while we rode the city bus. His name was Jonathan, he professed to be Catholic and Christian yet he said demonic things like “Jesus is scared, that’s why he hasn’t come back.” He also said the Bible was unreliable and untrue. He said he died and went to heaven once, but he described talking to Satan there so I told him he went to hell, not heaven. He agreed and said heaven and hell are the same thing. He said Satan wants to help him. He said the Greek gods and demigods were actually gods. All of his statements were demented. Jonathan spoke like a man suffering from the demonic, not the divine. He was drinking beer at 9 o’clock in the morning. He talked about being a bad man, having four divorces, going to jail, doing meth. He made sexual remarks to me. But the Holy Spirit helped me share the gospel, I disagreed with his beliefs above and talked about how God sent Jesus to die on the cross because he loves us. Jesus isn’t scared to come back, God is taking time because he loves us so much he doesn’t want anyone to go to hell, he is giving the wicked time to repent and be saved because he loves them. Jonathan said he needs a good woman to help him be a good man, a subtle invitation after his direct request for my number was rejected. I said you don’t need a woman, she won’t save you. You need Jesus, only he can give you a new heart. You know what Jonathan said? “I’ve been saved and baptized four times.” It didn’t do anything. I said of course that didn’t do anything, you need a new heart to be able to do good. You need Jesus. Do you want to ask Jesus for a new heart? No. Jonathan was drowning in alcohol, meth, promiscuity, and possibly demonic forces. Yet it sounds like wants to be saved, he talked about wanting to get better and be a good man. He mentioned getting baptized (which might have happened at church). He wanted help to be good-and talked about baptism all of a sudden. I can only guess, but he probably views baptism as a magic spell, kind of, that hopefully can save him. Since he kept having to get baptized over and over, I wonder if he now thinks baptism can’t do anything for him, since it didn’t work before? I was talking about getting a new heart, not baptism, he was the one conflating the two. He responded with “I’ve been baptized four times” dejectedly, almost like he thought he was unsavable. The man had tried to kill Jesus over and over for the forgiveness of sins, rather than kill the desires of his heart and flesh and choose God over earthly pleasure. We parted ways with him saying “I want everything.” I said you can have God, who is everything. Or you can have everything without God. He said “I want everything.” Multiple baptisms didn’t teach Jonathan anything about God, Jesus, or the cross. It didn’t teach him that disciples of Christ die with Jesus one time on the cross and they are now able to repent and stop sinning. Multiple baptisms didn’t teach him to repent, turn from his life of sin, and choose good over evil. Romans 6 was the passage to preach to Jonathan. What if your baptism was done in ignorance? What if you sinned big-time or doubted, or were apathetic towards all things righteous and holy? Do you need a new baptism after you repent or your belief and testimony “improves?” Will Jonathan need a fifth baptism if he truly “improves” and wants to leave his life of sin again? That’s actually why I think the credobaptist proclaimation that “baptism is a profession of faith” is demented. It’s not a quote from the Bible, yet many people have tried to persuade me to ditch my infant baptism and get baptized again. Professions of faith “improve” much like I went from a baptized baby to an adult believer. That “improvement” in my testimony has led many credobaptists to try to tell me to get baptized again. I showed a young Baptist man Romans 6. He ignored it and twisted Matthew 28, Acts 8, Acts 19, and Hebrews 8 to try to convince me to get baptized again. Wouldn’t I be doing the same thing as Jonathan? Trying to kill Jesus over and over rather than letting myself and my sin die on the cross? 1 John 4 says God loved us so much, Jesus died on the cross before any of us believed and loved God back. If I was baptized first as an infant, before I believed, then my Romans 6 baptism matches up with everyone else’s. All of us believe after Jesus’ work on the cross, he died thousands of years ago before any of us were born. That means people baptized as adults experienced the miracle of the cross first, before they believed, just like someone baptized as an infant. The order for experiencing God’s love first, through Jesus, then loving God back is not broken by my infant baptism. It’s upheld. Ephesians 4 says there is “one baptism” and Romans 6 seems to explain why. Yet credobaotists are convincing people left and right that the Apostle Paul rebaptized people with water in Acts 19. Paul wrote Ephesians and Romans, he would be contradicting himself! Nope, Acts 1 shows credobaotists are twisting Matthew 28, Acts 8, Acts 19, and Hebrews 8 to try to convince people to get two baptisms (or like Jonathan, 4) and that is demented. Rebaptism happens almost exclusively inside credobaptist churches. They are the ones baptizing people like Jonathan as many times as they want, ignoring Ephesians 4, Roman’s 6, Acts 1, and several other passages that make it clear rebaptism is a no-go. Several of my friends, baptized as infants and raised wonderfully by the church who became believing adults have been persuaded by baptists and Pentecostals to get baptized again (where people like Jonathan are getting 3-4 baptisms as well). Credobaptists are my brothers and sisters in Christ, but they are accidentally teaching people like Jonathan the wrong gospel-they should put the baptismal water down and show Jonathan Romans 6. Their treatment of me has been most unloving. Someone called me an unbeliever because I won’t get baptized again as an adult. Even if they are right, infant baptism is wrong, if I’m convinced multiple baptisms are evil and getting a new baptism is a denial of my faith then Romans 14 shows I would be sinning if I got baptized again. the Apostle Paul would rebuke the “correct” person for being unloving, he doesn’t rebuke me for my “incorrect” theology (on a debatable topic like infant baptism/immersion). Thing is, I don’t think my infant baptism is wrong or incorrect. But even if it was-it still stands. No baptism is ever called “fake” or needed “fixing” in the New Testament. Which is remarkable, because John The Baptist was baptizing people without telling them the Messiah’s name-cuz he didn’t know Jesus was the Messiah, yet, until he witnessed the Holy Spirit dove descend on Jesus in John 1:31, then John started telling everybody Jesus was Messiah! If even baptisms were done without knowing Jesus’ name (and God sent John to baptise so God was OK with that) then my infant baptism is fine, too, I don’t need a new one. Acts 19 is not a new baptism (with water) for people baptized under John (which would force the Apostle Paul’s words and actions to contradict). Acts 19, according to Acts 1, is a baptism of the Holy Spirit. No one in the New Testament gets a new baptism, so if Johns baptisms we’re OK to God, even though no one baptized by John believed their sins were forgive by Jesus on the cross (because Jesus hadn’t died yet) then my infant baptism is also fine. I don’t need a new one either. When I heard and believed, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Ephesians 1:13. That means I was reborn by water and spirit, just as Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3. I am a believer, I am your sister in Christ, and I do not need a new baptism to “proclaim my faith” as an adult. Romans 10:9 says we proclaim faith with our mouths, not our baptisms. Since multiple baptisms are rampant in Christian culture today-and Google search and the KZbin algorithm keep pushing the twisted version of Acts 19 that causes’ the Apostle Paul’s words and Actions to contradict each other, I’d love to see someone with a big platform like Michael Knowles get the truth of scripture to the top of internet search algorithms so that people like poor Jonathan can hear the true gospel from Romans 6, and stop killing Jesus over and over for the forgiveness of sins. All of us are called to pick up our cross, die to sin, and live for Christ. There is one baptism, one death, one resurrection-one cross.

It's common knowledge that Christmas had pagan origins. Even Christian historians acknowledged this.

@@IanJenn356094 Yes December 25th was chosen to help convert the pagans, but that does not make Christmas a pagan holiday. It's all about what your celebrating, not the date on which you celebrate it.
