Catholicism is a heretical cult, but they (for now, at least) do not advocate for abortion or homosexual marriage, so there's that. Joe Biden and his 'woke' ilk are probably more disturbing overall. I would be as happy as a clam if both the Catholic institution and the Joe Biden lovers (as well as Biden himself) were decimated by an asteroid or something as thoroughly destructive as that.

That’s hard for me to comprehend! Christ wants us to be free from that! My Baptist Pastor preached about “Glorious Freedom” yesterday. There is freedom from sin and shame if you truly are God’s child.

@@Rosie_C Freedom comes from asking Christ for forgiveness, that requires repentence and that comes from guilt. Guilt is an appropriate and necessary response to your sin. Christ offers freedom and mercy from past sin, but until death we are never truly free from our fallen nature, and even the consequences will not end until the Resurrection of the Body. Christ offers a pathway to leave sin behind, but WE must take the path, and we are bound to stumble every once in a while. And we should feel guilt when we do, otherwise, we would never return to the Way.

@@NightKnight347 🤔 Maybe I just didn’t explain myself well - I do believe we should hate our sin, “Till sin be bitter, Christ will not be sweet,” but I’m talking about once you’ve repented and if you try to live in a way that you confess your sins every day and keep your heart right with God, then you don’t have to live in a state of guilt and shame. Instead you can have, “Light, and joy, and gladness, and honour!” I usually don’t argue with people on KZbin comments, :) but I do love God’s Word and I don’t think there’s anything “paper thin” about my Pastor, so just attempting to clarify.

I understand what each of you are saying, but frequency of sacraments doesn’t determine if you are a better Catholic, because there are serious circumstances that could prevent someone from receiving the Eucharist or going to confession. Ex: some saints went through this deprivation in prison. The best Catholic is the one who does God’s will most wholeheartedly.

The bottom line is the Catholic Church has made very bold claims about morality (example is on the purpose and nature of marriage which can only exist between a man and a woman). If you believe the church is wrong on this then you are claiming that she misunderstands the nature of God. If the church misunderstands the nature of God, then she doesn’t know God nor can claim that He exists. Calling yourself catholic then is simply insulting your capacity to think critically. So yeah, a catholic that supports actions that the church has classified as mortality sinful (such as adultery, fornication, etc, etc) as if they know better than the church, is not very bright. So I guess one thing that could be “wrong” about supporting so called gay marriage is calling yourself a catholic while doing so. It’s not reasonable to be both.

Jesus did not start the Catholic Church and Peter was not the first pope. Peter was an apostle to the Jews and Paul was the only apostle to the gentiles. The only way to know the unknowable God is if she reveals Himself and He has, through His word, which is God-breathed. You would rely on sinful finite man to tell you of the infinite God?
