Ahhh I used to live right near stone square when I was younger but moved as I grew up. All the memories of me going to get sweets from there came rushing back and I haven’t been there in years thank you for showing me it again

We lived in Winterslow Drive. Moved in as a one year old in 1955, brand new house, backing on to fields, which Mum and Dad ultimately purchased with my brother. They lived there for close on 35 years. My school year in Front Lawn Infants and Juniors produced around 10 or so pupils who passed 11+ and went to Havant Grammar School, most transferring to University or Polytechnic. Visited Leigh Park last winter. Sadly it has declined, but I have so many happy memories of playing in the woods, making fires and picking blackberries and mushrooms. The environment was often tough as it was a mixed community but there is no doubt that if you survived it, you were ready to cope with most things in life. I do laugh at some of the ‘middle class ‘ problems that people (including me !)fret over these days. I just have to cast my mind back to those days in Leigh Park, to remind myself where I came from and what I learnt about life.

Lived in Yateley Close from 1962 to 1974 approx...at the end of that road, I was involved in a horrendous car crash on Middle Park Way, driving a Lotus Cortina in 1979...my brother lost his life at the scene and I broke several bones.Left the area shortly after and only went back 3 or 4 times after that, then moved to Aberdeen for 2 decades...now there's a history for you !!

During the war Leigh Park was used by HMS Vernon as an experimental establishment, After the war, Leigh Park remained empty until it was ordered to be demolished by Portsmouth City Council in 1959.

When I was a kid in the 70s, there was a children's TV show set in the Leigh Park area. I recall scenes set in the gardens (near a tree that was like an elephant's leg) and in the shopping centre. Does anyone remember anything about it?
@chaos.corner11 ай бұрын
Astoundingly, I tracked it down. It was "Graham's Gang".
Love your videos on Leigh Park could you do one about Stockheath Common & the Farms & the 2 public houses that used to be in that area
@TimLambert101 Жыл бұрын
I could try but I would have to do some more research first.

@@TimLambert101 thank you Tim I’d love to see what you come up with, I’ve looked into the area myself as I’ve lived in Stockheath all my life but I’m no expert on finding information 👍🏻
@@TimLambert101thank you Tim, I have read that before which I found very interesting & is where I learnt a lot about Stockheath
@TimLambert101 Жыл бұрын
@@sdsferrodee The best way to find out about Stockheath is probably to look at old Ordnance Survey maps. I have looked at 19th century maps of the Fareham area and I learned a great deal from them. They should have 19th century or early 20th century OS maps of Stockheath in Hampshire Archives in Winchester.

Nowt about Dunsbury Way and Tampax? My Nan n Grandad lived at 448, many happy memories. Grandad was head machine fitter at the factory for many a year, and Nan worked at Sampsons Mushrooms, I think in Chichester?? They're long gone and still missed greatly, or should I say great Leigh???
