A Home Tour and how I add HYGGE to our Home

I am sure you have heard of the term Hygge which in essence means Cozy. I have been adding Hygge to my home years before I even heard the term. Today I am sharing with you ways I use one of the main Hygge elements....Candles (all varieties) throughout our Home. I have always been a candle and candlestick aficionado! In the 70s, we had them everywhere. I’ve never stopped, but I have many battery-operated candles now, for safety’s sake.

I use battery - timed candles in my foyer and in a lantern on my mantle. They all come on at 5 and off at 10. Perfect. They flicker and no one knows they aren't real. I also love dipped candles that I can hang on wall pegs. Your home is lovely.

Candles and oil lamps are a passion of mine too! Our home is decorated very primitive and also use the battery timer candles to add touches of cozy lighting. Hygge is my passion to, so cozy, warm and welcoming. Hi from upstate New York! Debby

I too, am candle obsessed. I burn multiples every day. Its 9:45 in the morning and I currently have 2 in the living room and one in the kitchen glowing. The cozy factor it gives my home is like a warm hug. And dripping candles are the best of all. The designs of pooling wax is mesmerizing. I even hate it when a piece falls off! I was drooling over your candle cupboard . I noticed my favorite Thymes frasier fir box!!!!! I always hope someone gifts me that one for Christmas, as it's too pricey for my retirement budget now. For me, life is too short for unburned candles! Thanks for all the inspiration.

I agree Liane! I was first introduced to Frasier Fir about 6 yrs ago and is now a Christmas tradition for my Daughters and myself. I usually just get the small votive size, but received those as a gift this year....so grateful. The back of my cupboard has my large Yankee jar candles (a couple empty) that I keep as a momento of working at Yankee. Thank you for watching!

Hello Carla, You are right candles do add to the coyness of one’s home, I love them ,so the video was a real treat to watch. My husband built a few shelves in our attic for my candle collection. Every time I visit family back home in the states, I usually buy several scented candles to bring back with me. Great video Carla....I also love candles, but my husband does have difficulty at times with some of the scents.... I discovered that he doesn't react to soy based candles, so that's what I use, along with battery operated ones, of course! I absolutely love going to Kringle candle and recently, they reopened the restaurant there. If you haven't eaten there, it's wonderful .....the food is delicious.... it's a little pricey but it's a nice place for a special dinner! Thank you Cynthia. I have not eaten at The Farm Table yet but my friend from VT has told me how great it is and that I need to go sometime. The scents of candles can be tricky, and believe me, my Daughters and Friends end up with some because once I burn them I realize we can't handle the scent. Good Sunday greetings Carla it is a glorious sunny day on Long Island certainly will be walking around today. Today's video was filled with interesting information about candles, in fact for Christmas 🎄 I received my first crackling sound candle 🕯 and I love hearing the sound from it, I don't have a fireplace [ always wished for one] so this candle is so enjoyable and I will suggest more as gifts to receive. Hello Carla by car the beautiful big Jones Beach , the ocean is a twenty-five minute drive, the town beach is a fifteen minute ride. I searched Google after seeing today's video have you visited Kringle Candle and I enjoyed seeing as well The Farm Table restaurant in Bernardson, MA, both look so nice and inviting. ☮ ❤

Yes, you may not have caught it but I mention visiting Yankee and Kringle in Mass. I've yet to eat at The Farm Table but my friend has told me how great it is.....someday. I would love living so close to the Ocean, my happy place!

Agreed!!! 😊 I love my battery operated timed candles!! I personally would never light real candles in bedrooms or rooms that l am not in , keeping an eye on them. I do light a real scented candle but just one otherwise the smell is headache provoking . Your home is very cosy and warm.😊

I love any kind of glow in the winter and have lighted items as well around the house in addition to candles. Last fall, I learned how to make candles and gave them away as Christmas gifts. After researching this for nearly a year, I learned what paraffin wax contains and how toxic it is. I love Yankee and other brands as much as the next person, but now I will only use 100% organic soy wax. It burns evenly, clean and does not have the harsh chemicals other candles do. P.S. LOVE you couch pillows! so pretty!

I also have a candle cupboard of all shapes and sizes!! I love real and battery operated! I have to be careful of brands because of headaches from fragrances. Unscented beeswax are great! What breed is your dog? So cute!

First of all, I love your name Seasaltseeker! Unfortunately, I can't always tell by smelling the candles in the Store if they will cause issues (I've gotten better but not 100% of the time), and I may love the scent but get it home and it causes a headache. I agree with you on beeswax and the fact that they clean the air is an added benefit. My little buddy Jack is a Bichon Poodle and such a good guy. Have a great week.

Carla, how do you keep such light colored couches and upholstered chairs clean? And you can keep these clean with a dog on them? They look nice but how to stay clean??

Thank you Marie. My chairs are all slip covers and regarding the couch, typically I have two matelasse coverlets covering the cushions where Jack sits and just wash them as needed. Luckily, he does not shed.
