Man's best friend is not always a dog. In Vermont, Waco Hanover - a former harness racing horse at the remarkable age of 40 - has developed a special bond with caretaker Donnie MacAdams. Tony Dokoupil reports.

The perils of loneliness. This skillful story-telling inspires me to be a constant friend to elders. When my almost centenarian friend says "You have no idea how much your visits mean to me," I now grasp that it may mean the difference between vitality and decline, between between life and death. Thank you, CBS - you, too Donnie MacAdams!

What a lovely story about friendship, love, and bonding. John Donne said centuries ago, "No man is an island..." How true that is.

That is the sweetest story, about Donnie and his horse. I am glad that the horse has a nice warm barn and blanket to wear. My sweet horse only lived to be 33 and when I put her down it nearly killed me. I know that they love each other. Just because a horse or dog or cat is an animals doesn't mean that they don't have feelings like love and they do talk to each other. We just can't hear or under stand what they r saying.

Waco the horse is so lucky to have such a wonderful human being to care and love him so much. Waco looks actually young and I bless all of the horses that are under the care of this wonderful man. I wish there would be more like him. So many of these sweet, gentle, very intelligent and noble horses are so often abused, mistreated, not cared for. Thank for this wonderful video.I'm going to watch it again right now.

We were lucky enough to own two horses, back in the day, way back when. Chico, a golden palomino, and Cory, "the brown one." It's not hard to bond with a horse. But the truly amazing thing? They can bond with you.

LONELINESS: This is what happens when horse’s are stalled. Horse’s are herd animals. They are meant to be together!

Waco had soooo sad eyes! It is really horrible how terrible humans use and mistreat animals/ horses like Waco 😥 His life as a race horse must have been horrible! 😥 And the intentions of this old guy, his human friend, may have been good, but Waco would have needed the company of other horses. Horses are flock animals and very social and a human can never replace a friendship amongst them. I feel very sad for Waco. I hope this sweet guy Is in a better place now and can heal.💜
