This term is thrown around a lot but watching this movie made me realize Larenz Tate has range. He went from playing a psychopath to a nurturing, but naive boy, to a man coming back from war that has not only affected him, but those around him like his friends and the mother of his kids. This movie is so dark, yet so good… a better step up from their first film (even though I love Menace II society).

Hood classic indeed!! Absolutely love Larenz, Chris and Keith! Cleon (Bokeem Woodbine) was definitely batchit crazy and not too bright at the end. Also, Anthony should’ve gotten the sleaze ball sticker as well. And anytime Jenifer Lewis is playing the mom in a movie, it’s gonna be lit. He shouldn’t have gotten upset with Juanita moving on (somewhat) because he didn’t seem to care. Delilah should’ve looked the other way after seeing how he treated her sister. Not sure what made her think that things would be different. Just a lot of poor decisions made by the cast. And the judge showed absolutely no mercy. He was like, “I served too but I didn’t do any dumb chit to get locked up or anything risky to cut my future short” (paraphrasing of course). I am late but I watched this movie for the first time about two years ago. I know, I know. I enjoyed your commentary as always! I don't agree. He had every right to be upset. She told him she would wait for him, and she didn't. She broke her promise, lied, and got involved with a dangerous gangster. She ruined the relationship before he even got back. His mistake was not accepting that she was sullied, corrupted, and already gone. The worst decision he made in the movie was trying to be a family with her. It was her constant bickering that led him to commit the bank robbery. She should've waited for him to come back like she said she would. Instead she was corrupted, and her corrupted being drove him to his death

Anthony made a litany of bad choices that brought down not only himself but those who loved him. He was an idealist drive by nativete ( we've all been there) he was his own worse enemy. He could have written to Juanita telling her what his life was like over there to give her a better understanding but he didn't. I don't think he cared about her at all. He pretty much told her that after getting with her. His broken thought process of what a man is is why his development remained arrested. I think he was her first and she felt more about him because of it. She did move on with Cutty but he wasnt who she wanted. He was who she needed there's a big difference between the two. * There is no distinction between the timeline of when they robbed and the time they got busted, so it appear they stayed in the city for more than a week (I guess), but it never says how long. * Anthony told Kirby that he's going to talk to Cleon, but even though it's never said, Anthony is going to kill him. Anthony just wants to know what else Cleon has said or done. However, Kirby ain't got time for talking and was just going to kill him. * Had Cleo been on point during the robbery, the girl would not have had to put herself in harms way to save Anthony.

And he really went on a world tour after war before he even checked up on that baby of his lol

Hi. I don't think Anthony had anger issues after the war. He had experienced a lot of traumatic events and death. His anger in instances where he lost his temper was with merit. Anthony needed a good-paying job and therapy. Where was the support for black soldiers and their families? While I understand your viewpoint on Anthony attending college, it may not have been the better choice for him. I assume he may have been average in H.S. The thought of pursuing higher education may have been overwhelming to him. Black children who've grown up in disadvantaged neighborhoods aren't exposed to different places, people, and cultures. War is war. But look at the conditions he grew up in. He was raised in a two-parent household with good morals and values. That didn't change the harsh conditions that existed outside his home. As Judge Greg Mathis says, "You had to make do."

14:30 It's not just his anger... he's battling with PTSD and what he experienced in the war... that's why later scenes of him having flashbacks and night terrors were affecting him so much... It was a running theme throughout the film...

In the words of DJ Khaled, "Another one". You've done it again babygirl I love this classic. I loved Delilah opposed to Juanita I wish Anthony would have got with Delilah and went to college like Skippy said in the beginning. I thought Juanita was kinda disrespectful especially with 'Cutty' played by the OG Clifton Powell. Also, I liked Jose' and Kirby as well, too bad Jo, Delilah, and Skippy lost their lives ultimately. 😞 But other than that overall a forever Dope 90's film 🎥. Good Analysis as Usual Babygirl Keep it up And Lastly, can you do the following: Poetic Justice The Best Man The Brothers Brown Sugar Breaking all the Rules Hitch

In my opinion this is the best Hughes brothers film and because this was based on a true story … Larenz Tate character is still alive I believe in real life … and this is Chris Tuckers best role ever

Bad decisions were: -Anthony going to the Marines except college and abandoning his child and woman thus allowing Cutty to be in her life -Having a robbery crew of: a man with one hand, a man with one arm, a Black Panther, a junkie, a crazy man/preacher, and O-Dog all with facepaint. -Including the preacher/crazy guy The judge (Martin Sheen) is very liberal/anti war, it came out in this scene.

The transitions were everything! Including from drama to comedy. Excellent movie. 1. I wonder if Kirby not recognizing Anthony was foreshadowing 2. I thought Skip was drafted
@Rahnotrob Жыл бұрын
It’s important to mention Skip got the full benefit package/honorable discharge because he got agent orange while he was in Vietnam. That’s also what lead to his drug addict, because he needed something to the numb the pain.

Great movie. @8:30 Skip messed up in college and got drafted into the marines. At that time they didn’t have a choice. Anthony was the only one who volunteered to go but he would have been drafted eventually too. And a few dudes were like Anthony, not thinking about their family back home because a distraction like that could get them killed. He probably stayed in touch with Kirby because Kirby had been to war as well and could give Anthony advice. Anthony’s mom was asking dumb questions like “What did you do?” “Well mom, I almost got my head blown off numerous times. And this one guy got his 🍆 chopped off and shoved in his mouth…pass the salt please.” 😏😂
