People say this is out of pocket for how it portrays Black women, but I think those people are just ashamed of what some woman are. It’s accurate and I know someone felt seen by this.

I literally had a conversation about this. People have a such a skewed perception from where they come from; like their “culture” is the only thing that’s relevant. Some people choose to just exist in their own bubble instead of living realizing that there are people that exist outside of their realm of life. The reason why that movie is a top 5 IS because it’s relatable!

I'm from Atlanta, the personalities are very accurate. The only inaccuracy is how the men are dressed. Black men weren't dressed like this in the mid/late 90s. These men look like pimps. My dad and uncles had Polo, Tommy, and Fubu head to toe. One pants leg of jeans rolled up. Beeper on the waistline. Cap flipped to the back and kept cash pinned along the side of it, usually the beeper clip kept the cash safe in place. Other portrayals are spot on for the community in my humble opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️.

I remember I saw this movie as a kid and wanted my hair like Nicky's (with the ponytail curls.) I went to an all black catholic elementary school and everyone loved my hair. This movie was such a fashion inspiration and a representation of the creativity of black women in the 90's. It wasn't ghetto, it was artistry.

I feel like Mr. Blakemore knew instantly when the girls were brought in initially and that’s why he freaked out on them. He already knew about Lilly because he’s had a lifetime of longing for her and had the resources to keep tabs on her. But he decided to play along for the rest on the movie, even telling Nisi to not say anything when he was in the hospital so he could enjoy the fantasy in his final moments. He finally passed when he discovered he could trust the girls. And when they tore up the check I think that’s when he put them in his will. They didn’t take the cheap route and were more concerned for him than his own nephew

Other things to add: LL Cool J’s fine ass being in this movie 🫶🏾. Fun fact: there was an original script to this movie written by Troy Beyer, but Robert Townsend wanted to rework it. She wasn’t too happy of it, and didn’t want her name to be credited as the writer for the film. I am not too keen on asking for requests, but I can’t wait until you talk about The Five Heartbeats. I can't front when I first saw this movie back in the day. I thought this film was so corny. But as I gave it a chance I was surprised that it had a really good message. This film taught me that if you come from nothing, hustle your way to your dreams. You eventually get blessed in ways only us common folk would fantasize. It was fly how at the end both girls inherited millions from the man that knew they wasn't his late wife's "Lilly's" descendants. They may started out being 2 country girls that feed on the scam. But they both wind up caring for the older gentleman. So I liked this film now.....good job "Halle" & "Natalie" ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹
